Can You Add Your Own Music to GTA 6 Radio Stations? (October 2026 Status)

No—not as a confirmed feature. As of October 18, 2026, Rockstar has not announced a way to import MP3 or WAV files, connect a Spotify playlist, create a personal station, or use a GTA 5-style Self Radio station in Grand Theft Auto VI. Rockstar has confirmed curated radio stations, podcasts and an official soundtrack, but no user-music controls.

What Rockstar has confirmed for GTA VI audio

Rockstar’s current GTA VI music announcement describes a curated radio and podcast system rather than a player-controlled music library. The company says the game will have “the biggest and widest-ranging selection of in-game radio and podcasts yet,” spanning formats from classic rock to talk radio. That statement confirms the scale and variety of the in-game programming, not the ability to add personal files.

The announcement previews six stations. Their names and broad formats are the only station details Rockstar has publicly established in the material currently available.

Station Previewed format What this tells you
Cocoteo Modern Latin A contemporary Latin-focused station is part of the launch lineup preview.
Back Country Radio Renegade country The game includes a country station with a deliberately outlaw or renegade identity.
Afro Bank FM Amapiano and African music The preview covers Amapiano and broader African music rather than a single narrowly defined genre.
The Chamber Metal Metal has its own dedicated station in the preview.
Flash FM Pop The familiar Flash FM name returns for a pop-oriented station.
Dirty South Classics Regional rap and hip-hop The preview includes a station centered on Southern rap and hip-hop classics.

Six previews do not necessarily represent every station, host or podcast that will appear in the finished game. They are the stations Rockstar has chosen to show publicly; no published feature list says players can edit their track orders, replace songs or add local audio.

The official album is separate from a personal playlist

Rockstar also lists Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album, described as 34 original tracks credited to Rockstar Games in 2026. The announcement includes pre-order options for vinyl and CD editions. An official soundtrack release gives players more GTA VI music to own, but it is not evidence of an in-game import tool or a customizable station.

Which personal-music features are unconfirmed

The following features are often mentioned in discussions about GTA VI, but Rockstar’s current announcement does not confirm any of them.

Requested feature Current status What would count as confirmation
Importing MP3 or WAV files Unconfirmed A Rockstar feature description, support article or launch documentation specifying local-file scanning or a User Tracks folder.
Spotify or another streaming-service playlist Unconfirmed An announced account-linking or in-game streaming integration, including supported regions and platforms.
Self Radio like GTA 5 PC Unconfirmed A named Self Radio mode, equivalent station, or explicit instructions for adding personal tracks.
Creating a custom radio station Unconfirmed A station editor or playlist-management interface described by Rockstar.
Skipping or removing individual songs Unconfirmed Documented controls that let players skip, hide or reorder songs beyond any standard radio controls.
Personal music in online play Unconfirmed A statement explaining whether custom audio is limited to single-player or also works in GTA Online.

In practical terms, there is currently no official setup procedure to follow. A guide that tells you to copy music into a GTA VI folder, sign in to Spotify or select “Self Radio” is describing an unannounced feature, a rumor or another game’s process—not a confirmed GTA VI option.

Why players expect a custom station

The question persists because earlier Grand Theft Auto releases did support personal audio on some editions. Rockstar’s support documentation for the Mac versions of Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas describes a User Tracks workflow. Players placed MP3 or WAV files in the relevant User Tracks folder and, while driving, selected an MP3 station to hear that custom playlist.

That historical procedure establishes precedent, but it does not carry forward automatically. The support article was last updated June 12, 2023, and covers those earlier Mac releases. It does not announce compatibility with GTA VI, which is a separate game with its own technical design, platform targets and audio licensing.

How the older User Tracks approach worked

  1. Prepare music files in MP3 or WAV format.
  2. Copy the files into the game’s designated User Tracks folder for the supported Mac title.
  3. Launch the game and drive to test the custom station.
  4. Select the in-game MP3 station from the radio wheel or station list.

Those steps are useful history, not GTA VI instructions. Do not create folders or alter installation files expecting the current game to detect them unless Rockstar publishes a GTA VI-specific procedure.

Does GTA VI have Self Radio like GTA 5 PC?

There is no confirmed Self Radio equivalent in the current GTA VI announcement. “Self Radio” is a name associated with the personal-music experience in the PC version of GTA 5, so players naturally use it as shorthand for any future custom station. Rockstar has not said that GTA VI will reuse that name, the same folder structure or the same scanning system.

A PC implementation would still need documented support for file formats, folder locations, metadata, soundtrack licensing, scanning behavior and player controls. A console implementation would raise different storage and operating-system restrictions. Until Rockstar specifies those details, assuming that a PC feature will appear unchanged—or that consoles will receive it too—is unsafe.

Can you use a Spotify playlist in GTA VI?

Spotify playlist support is also unconfirmed. The current music announcement does not mention Spotify, account linking, streaming APIs, background playback or any other streaming service. Owning a playlist in a separate app does not make it available to the game’s radio system.

Streaming integration would involve questions Rockstar has not answered: whether playback would require an internet connection, which countries and account types would be supported, how songs would be muted or replaced for licensing reasons, and whether the feature would work in single-player, online sessions or both. Until an official announcement addresses those points, treat videos or social posts promising Spotify integration as speculation.

Can you customize or skip GTA VI radio songs?

Rockstar has not published a GTA VI control scheme for song skipping, station editing, favorites or track blocking. The fact that a game contains radio stations does not guarantee that every station will offer the same controls. Some stations could use fixed programming, while others might provide ordinary next-track controls; no such distinction has been documented for GTA VI.

The safest expectation is that the launch radio experience will be the curated programming Rockstar describes. If a later update adds skipping or playlist tools, its rules may differ between story mode and online play, and those limits would need to be checked in the official instructions.

What to check after launch or a major update

A future patch could change the answer. To verify a claimed feature, look for a Rockstar-published support article, Newswire post, patch note or in-game help entry that names GTA VI specifically.

  • Look for an exact feature name. “User Tracks,” “Self Radio,” “custom station” or a similarly explicit label is stronger evidence than a vague statement about music.
  • Check the supported platform. A PC-only feature would not establish support on PlayStation or Xbox, and a console feature would not prove that local computer files are supported.
  • Read the file and storage requirements. Confirm formats, folder paths, maximum file counts, metadata rules and whether files are scanned automatically or through a menu.
  • Check mode restrictions. Find out whether personal music works in story mode, online sessions, both or neither during missions and activities.
  • Check network and account requirements. Streaming features may require an account or connection; local-file playback might work offline if Rockstar implements it that way.
  • Check regional and licensing limits. A station or service may be unavailable in particular territories or may replace songs after launch.

These checks prevent a guide for an older GTA edition, a mod or an unofficial workaround from being mistaken for an official GTA VI capability.

If Rockstar adds personal music, compare the implementation—not just the name

“Custom radio” can mean very different things. The useful comparison is the behavior Rockstar actually documents.

Evaluation point Local-file system Streaming integration
Where music comes from Files stored on the player’s device, if supported. A linked online music service, if supported.
Offline playback Potentially possible, subject to Rockstar’s implementation. May require a connection or downloaded service content.
Platform reach Often easier to implement on PC; console support would need explicit confirmation. Could span platforms, but only where the service and account system are supported.
Playlist editing Could depend on filenames, folders or an in-game editor. Could depend on the external service’s playlist and account permissions.
Skipping and blocking Would need in-game controls and rules for radio transitions. Would need controls plus licensing and service limitations.
Story mode versus online Must be specified separately for each mode. Must be specified separately for each mode, especially where shared sessions are involved.

These are the questions to ask if Rockstar announces the feature; they are not a description of capabilities currently confirmed for GTA VI.

What you can do right now

  • Use the curated stations and podcasts Rockstar has previewed when the game provides access to them.
  • Follow official GTA VI support and Newswire updates for a platform-specific music announcement.
  • Keep personal playlists in your regular music app rather than modifying GTA VI files based on an unofficial tutorial.
  • If you want physical or collectible GTA VI music, note that Rockstar lists a 34-track original album with vinyl and CD pre-order editions; that release is separate from in-game radio customization.

Bottom line

As of October 18, 2026, GTA VI does not have a Rockstar-confirmed method for importing your own songs, using a Spotify playlist, creating a custom station or enabling a GTA 5-style Self Radio mode. The confirmed audio offering is curated radio, podcasts and the listed 34-track official album. Earlier Mac GTA titles used User Tracks and an MP3 station, but that precedent is not a promise that GTA VI will support the same system. Recheck Rockstar’s support and Newswire pages after launch or any major update before trusting a setup guide.
