No. Nest Wifi and Google Wifi devices cannot join or extend a Nest Wifi Pro mesh. To add coverage to a Pro system, add another Nest Wifi Pro router and set it up as a point in Google Home. Older Nest Wifi and Google Wifi devices can still form a compatible legacy mesh with each other, but they do not become Pro mesh points.
Why Nest Wifi and Nest Wifi Pro cannot share a mesh
Mesh compatibility is generation-specific. Nest Wifi Pro uses Wi-Fi 6E, including the 6 GHz band for mesh connections; earlier Nest Wifi and Google Wifi systems are Wi-Fi 5 and cannot support Pro’s 6 GHz mesh. Google states that Nest Wifi Pro is not backwards compatible with earlier Nest Wifi or Google Wifi mesh systems. Google Nest Help

This restriction concerns devices acting as mesh routers or points. It does not mean ordinary Wi-Fi devices are categorically incompatible: Google says most devices that connect to Wi-Fi work with Nest Wifi Pro, subject to a few exceptions. Google Nest Help

To extend a Pro mesh, add another Nest Wifi Pro router and configure it as a point in the Google Home app. A Nest Wifi router, Nest Wifi point, or Google Wifi point cannot serve as a point in that Pro mesh. Google Nest Help
#1 Best Overall
- Nest Wifi Pro is up to 2x faster than Wi-Fi 6, so you get super fast speeds and a reliable connection for your entire home[1]
- Three Wi-Fi routers provide up to 6600 square feet of fast, reliable Wi-Fi[2]; and you can customize your setup to create a mesh Wi-Fi system for the coverage you need
- Nest Wifi Pro uses the latest, most advanced Wi-Fi 6E technology[3], so it isn’t compatible with previous generations of Google Wifi or Nest Wifi
- Nest Wifi Pro automatically adjusts your Wi-Fi network’s performance and activity; it prioritizes video calls and helps websites load quickly
- It has built-in technology to make sure your connection is strong and consistent, even at the edge of your Wi-Fi network’s coverage[2]
If you want to keep using your older devices as mesh points, continue using a compatible Nest Wifi or Google Wifi setup rather than expecting those devices to extend the Pro network. Google’s compatibility guidance supports one Wi-Fi network per home in Google Home; it does not describe running a legacy mesh alongside a Pro mesh as one integrated network. Google Nest Help
Can Ethernet make the systems compatible?
No. Ethernet can support wired connections in configurations Google documents, but it does not make an older Nest Wifi or Google Wifi device compatible as a Pro mesh point. Google’s wiring guidance covers supported topologies, not a workaround for the generation restriction. Google’s Ethernet setup guidance

For supported wired arrangements, Google describes connecting a point downstream from the Wifi router and using a switch where needed. It recommends an unmanaged switch; a managed switch must be configured according to Google’s STP and BPDU guidance. Nest Wifi points have no Ethernet ports, so they cannot be hardwired. - Mesh generation: Nest Wifi Pro expands with other Nest Wifi Pro routers; older Nest Wifi and Google Wifi devices stay within their compatible legacy systems.
- Wireless bands: Google lists Nest Wifi Pro as Wi-Fi 6E with 2.4, 5, and 6 GHz bands, while the legacy systems are Wi-Fi 5. These specifications do not guarantee a particular speed or coverage result. Google’s product comparison
- Ports and wired needs: Google lists two Ethernet ports on Nest Wifi Pro. If you need additional LAN ports in a supported wired setup, an Ethernet switch may help; it will not bridge mesh generations. Google’s product comparison Google’s Ethernet setup guidance
- Availability: Google says it no longer sells Nest Wifi or Google Wifi. Check current availability of any compatible Nest Wifi Pro router before planning an expansion. Google’s product comparison
Google also identifies Matter support and Thread border-router capability for Nest Wifi Pro. These are listed features, not evidence of a specific Wi-Fi performance outcome. Google’s Nest Wifi Pro setup information

Plan Pro point placement separately from compatibility
Once you have compatible Pro hardware, placement still affects coverage. Google describes room count as a general planning aid and says points generally work best about two to three rooms apart; building materials and layout can change the result. Placement advice cannot make an incompatible older point work with Pro. Google’s point-planning guidance
