Not with ReShade alone. ReShade can add post-processing effects to older games, but it does not provide a universal way to add NVIDIA DLSS Super Resolution to games that lack upscaler integration. DLSS needs game- or application-level inputs; resizing and sharpening a finished image are not the same thing.
Why ReShade cannot simply switch on DLSS
ReShade is a post-processing framework for supported graphics APIs, with shader and add-on capabilities. Its add-on API, introduced in ReShade 5.0, lets developers extend the framework; it does not mean a general-purpose DLSS implementation exists. ReShade’s official ReShade site describes its capabilities and release history.

DLSS Super Resolution is not just a filter applied to a completed frame. NVIDIA’s DLSS Programming Guide, dated March 31, 2026, says: “This document covers how to integrate the DLSS feature into a game or application using the DLSS SDK (which is modelled on the NGX SDK but stands separately).” The integration relies on game or application rendering data; an image-level resize or sharpening effect cannot supply missing game inputs.

Those requirements depend on the guide’s current version, so check its latest requirements for your hardware and operating system rather than assuming that any ReShade-compatible PC can run DLSS.

Choose a path based on what the game already supports
| Game situation | What may be possible | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| The game already has DLSS, FSR 2 or newer, or XeSS support | A middleware tool such as OptiScaler may be able to replace or route an existing upscaler path, subject to the game’s compatibility. | Check the OptiScaler README and its game-specific compatibility information for the exact game and version. |
| The game has no upscaler integration | ReShade can still provide post-processing, but no universal ReShade-only method is established for adding DLSS to the game. | A game-specific mod would need to implement the missing integration. Verify that one exists for the exact game before following installation instructions. |
| The game uses an older graphics API that ReShade cannot attach to directly | An API wrapper may help ReShade attach in some cases, but it does not create DLSS or supply missing game-render data. | Identify the API first, then consult ReShade’s troubleshooting guidance for relevant wrapper options and caveats. |
Check the graphics API before installing ReShade
Find out which graphics API the game uses and whether ReShade supports it directly. If the game uses an API that requires translation, use only the wrapper route relevant to that API. ReShade’s troubleshooting guidance discusses d3d8to9 for DirectX 8 and DXGL or dgVoodoo2 for certain older APIs. Wrappers translate between graphics APIs; they do not add temporal upscaler inputs, and they may cause technical or visual problems.
Because no game was specified, there is no safe universal installation sequence: the right API choice, wrapper, middleware, and compatibility steps depend on the game and its version. Check the game’s own compatibility entry before adding a wrapper or replacement upscaler.

When middleware might help—and when to stop
OptiScaler’s README describes replacing upscalers in games that already support DLSS 2+, FSR2+, or XeSS. That makes it a conditional option for a game with an existing upscaler path, not a tool that automatically supplies one to any older title. Its project documentation lists compatibility by game, so confirm the exact entry and follow its current instructions.
Do not inject ReShade or replacement middleware into an online game until you have checked the game’s rules and anti-cheat policy. OptiScaler warns that its use may trigger anti-cheat and lead to bans. If the policy is unclear, do not use it in that game.

What to verify for your specific game
- Rendering API: Determine whether ReShade supports it directly or whether a relevant wrapper is required.
- Upscaler support: Check whether the game already exposes DLSS, FSR 2 or newer, or XeSS inputs.
- Exact compatibility: Match the game version to the middleware or mod’s compatibility notes and known issues.
- System requirements: For DLSS, consult NVIDIA’s current guide for GPU and operating-system requirements.
- Online restrictions: Confirm that injection or replacement tools are allowed before using them in multiplayer.
Without verified game-specific support, treat ReShade as a post-processing tool—not a way to retrofit DLSS into a title that never integrated an upscaler.
