However, the official guide documents building a playlist from individual clips or shots—not automatically importing every file in a folder or continually adding new files. If you need a predictable sequence, add the files you want to a playlist and arrange them yourself.
What Wirecast’s playlist can—and cannot—do
A Wirecast playlist shot contains multiple preselected clips or shots. You can put those items in a specific order and take the playlist live like another shot. Telestream’s Wirecast 15 Windows User Guide documents adding selected clips or shots to a playlist, but it does not describe an action that scans a folder and automatically builds an ordered playlist. Telestream’s Wirecast product page identifies YouTube as a streaming destination.

So, treat “play a folder” as “make a playlist from the files I choose in that folder.” The documented workflow does not establish that files added later will appear automatically, or that Wirecast will continuously monitor a folder and update the playlist.

Choose how the playlist ends and advances
- Loop: When playback reaches the end, it returns to the first shot and repeats.
- Hold: Playback stays on the last shot. If the final item is a video and you want its last frame to remain visible, the guide says to set that clip’s When Finished behavior to Hold as well as setting the playlist to Hold.
- Shuffle: Changes the order of playlist shots. Keep it off when you need a known, repeatable sequence.
- Next / Previous: Lets you move manually among playlist items while the playlist is live.
Do not delete shots from a playlist while it is running. The guide also says nested playlists are unsupported.

Fixed playlist or automatically updated folder?
| Workflow | What it means | What the documentation establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Fixed playlist | You choose the clips, arrange them, and start the playlist. | The Wirecast 15 Windows guide documents adding clips or shots to a playlist and controlling playback. |
| Folder-driven updates | Wirecast reads a folder, sequences its contents, and includes new files without manual playlist editing. | Not established by the cited guide. The version history mentions improved watching of network shares for media file updates, but that does not confirm automatic folder-to-playlist sequencing. |
Telestream’s version history lists Wirecast 16.5.3, dated June 10, 2026, and notes recent playlist and media-playback changes. That release information is useful context, but it does not confirm that a folder can be automatically enumerated into a playlist. If automatic folder rotation is essential, verify the behavior in the exact Wirecast version and operating system you plan to use before relying on it for an unattended broadcast.
