The channel must have membership gifting available, and viewers use the gifting controls in live chat. YouTube’s instructions do not specifically guarantee that gifting will be available on every 24/7 broadcast.
How to gift memberships in a live chat
On a computer, a viewer can purchase gifts from an eligible live stream or Premiere:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- Sign in to YouTube and open the channel’s live stream or Premiere.
- In live chat, open Membership gifting.
- Choose how many memberships to gift and complete the purchase.
YouTube may show a countdown ticker highlighting the purchase. If the stream or live chat ends before the announcement, YouTube says the gifts will still be distributed. See YouTube’s computer instructions for gifting channel memberships.

- Creating streaming and vlog content is a big part of social media. Therefore, it is really important to enlarge your fans, wear these when you are filming to remind your audience how to support you.
- Get more views, likes and subscriptions with this tee.
- Lightweight, Classic fit, Double-needle sleeve and bottom hem
A gifted membership provides up to one month of access to that channel’s membership perks and does not renew automatically. Perks vary by channel and may include badges, emoji, members-only videos, or members-only live streams. YouTube explains these benefits in its membership benefits guide.
What creators should know about gifting
Gifting is a live-stream and Premiere feature, not a guarantee for every channel or every kind of video playback. The creator’s channel needs gift memberships available, and the controls must be accessible in live chat. The official guidance does not set out a special 24/7 eligibility rule or promise gifting on every continuous broadcast.

Promotional gifts are different
YouTube may offer promotional gift memberships on some channels with a membership tier below $5. These are offered by YouTube, do not charge the creator or viewer, and do not generate revenue. They are distributed from live chat in sets of five; availability is limited, and YouTube says they are not currently available for brand accounts. They are not the same as a viewer buying memberships to gift. Details appear in YouTube’s creator guidance on promoting memberships.

If the gifting option is missing
- Check the viewing context: use an eligible live stream or Premiere, with live chat available, rather than assuming the option appears on a replay.
- Check channel availability: gifting needs to be available for that channel. A continuous broadcast by itself does not establish that the channel has the feature.
- Check recipient eligibility: viewers need to opt in and subscribe to the channel; YouTube also considers recent interaction.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you’re a creator running a continuous YouTube stream, StreamNeo keeps uploaded videos playing from the cloud: upload a recording or playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. It streams the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; if YouTube drops the stream, StreamNeo attempts automatic recovery. The first day is free with no card. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo plays uploaded video rather than broadcasting a camera feed. Learn more at StreamNeo, or start your free first day.
