1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesSometimes—but usually not the full contents of what you do. A Wi-Fi operator may see that your phone is connected and, depending on the router and its settings, may learn some network details. HTTPS generally protects the contents of an encrypted website connection, so a Wi-Fi owner cannot automatically read your searches, messages, or the exact pages you view. If someone knows private details, access to your phone or spyware is a separate possibility from ordinary Wi-Fi monitoring.
What someone can see depends on who is watching
“Someone on the Wi-Fi” can mean several different observers. Their access and the information available to them are not the same.

- Other users on an unprotected Wi-Fi network: The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) warns that people using an unprotected network may be able to see online activity, including personal information entered or viewed. That warning should not be applied automatically to a network protected by Wi-Fi encryption when the connection to a website or service is also encrypted.
- A home network administrator: The router and its configuration determine what connection details may be available. A standard router should not be assumed to provide a readable record of every page viewed or message sent; the FTC’s home-router guidance does not establish that all routers keep such a history.
- Your internet service provider (ISP): An ISP is distinct from the person who manages your local router. In a 2021 staff report examining six major providers, the FTC found that some continued collecting website domain information despite HTTPS. That finding applies to the providers reviewed in that report, not to every ISP or every router.
- Someone with access to your phone: Stalkerware installed on the device can expose online activity and personal data. This is a phone compromise, not simply someone observing your Wi-Fi connection.
The FTC’s home Wi-Fi security guidance and its public Wi-Fi advice explain the roles of network protection and encryption.
What HTTPS hides—and what it does not
HTTPS encrypts the connection between your phone and a website, making the contents of that connection much harder for a network observer to read. The FTC recommends looking for HTTPS or a lock icon in a mobile browser. Most apps also use encryption, although it is harder for users to check an app’s protection directly.

- DUAL-BAND WIFI 6 ROUTER: Wi-Fi 6(802.11ax) technology achieves faster speeds, greater capacity and reduced network congestion compared to the previous gen. All WiFi routers require a separate modem. Dual-Band WiFi routers do not support the 6 GHz band.
- AX1800: Enjoy smoother and more stable streaming, gaming, downloading with 1.8 Gbps total bandwidth (up to 1200 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz). Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- CONNECT MORE DEVICES: Wi-Fi 6 technology communicates more data to more devices simultaneously using revolutionary OFDMA technology
- EXTENSIVE COVERAGE: Achieve the strong, reliable WiFi coverage with Archer AX1800 as it focuses signal strength to your devices far away using Beamforming technology, 4 high-gain antennas and an advanced front-end module (FEM) chipset
- OUR CYBERSECURITY COMMITMENT: TP-Link is a signatory of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Secure-by-Design pledge. This device is designed, built, and maintained, with advanced security as a core requirement.
Encryption does not prove that a site is trustworthy: a scam website can use HTTPS too. Nor does HTTPS mean every observer learns nothing. The FTC’s 2021 report found that some of the six ISPs it examined continued collecting website domain information despite HTTPS. That is a scoped finding about those providers, not proof that a local router owner sees the full URLs, searches, or messages.
Private or incognito browsing is primarily a local browser feature; it does not make activity invisible to the network. In the same FTC report, private browsing did not prevent two studied ISPs from continuing persistent tracking.

- Dual-band Wi-Fi with 5 GHz speeds up to 867 Mbps and 2.4 GHz speeds up to 300 Mbps, delivering 1200 Mbps of total bandwidth¹. Dual-band routers do not support 6 GHz. Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- Covers up to 1,000 sq. ft. with four external antennas for stable wireless connections and optimal coverage.
- Supports IGMP Proxy/Snooping, Bridge and Tag VLAN to optimize IPTV streaming
- Access Point Mode - Supports AP Mode to transform your wired connection into wireless network, an ideal wireless router for home
- Advanced Security with WPA3 - The latest Wi-Fi security protocol, WPA3, brings new capabilities to improve cybersecurity in personal networks
What each privacy measure protects
| Measure | What it helps protect | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Wi-Fi encryption (WPA3 or WPA2) | The wireless link, helping prevent nearby unauthorized users from reading network traffic. | It does not prevent a network administrator from seeing all available connection metadata, or protect a phone that has been compromised. |
| HTTPS | Connection contents between your phone and the website or app service. | It does not guarantee that a site is legitimate, hide all network information, or stop someone with access to the phone from monitoring it. |
| VPN | Can encrypt traffic between your device and the VPN provider. | It does not make you untrackable; you must consider the provider’s privacy practices, app permissions, encryption, and data sharing. |
| Phone security and a safety-aware response | Addresses software installed on the phone, including stalkerware. | It is not a Wi-Fi setting, and removing suspicious software can carry risks if an abusive person may be monitoring the device. |
Secure your home Wi-Fi
- Check the router’s wireless security setting. Choose WPA3 Personal if available, or WPA2 Personal. The FTC describes WPA3 as the newer and best available encryption, while noting that WPA2 also scrambles information.
- Replace default passwords. Set a strong, unique Wi-Fi password and a separate, unique router administrator password.
- Update the router. Install available router software updates. Turn off remote management, WPS, and UPnP if you do not need them.
- Separate visitors if useful. A guest network can keep visitors’ devices separate from your main home network.
- Consider replacing unsupported equipment. If the router only offers outdated WPA or WEP and still cannot support WPA2 or WPA3 after updates, the FTC says to consider replacing it.
These steps improve the security of the home network; they do not make a phone invisible to the network operator or remove software installed on the phone.

- Use HTTPS websites and keep your phone’s operating system up to date.
- Use strong account passwords and two-factor authentication.
- Remember that encryption protects information in transit; it does not make a fraudulent website safe.
A VPN is an option some people consider, but it shifts trust to the VPN provider. The FTC advises researching the app, reviewing its permission requests, confirming that it encrypts information, and checking whether it shares data with third parties. Those checks are more useful than assuming any VPN prevents all tracking.

If you suspect someone is monitoring the phone itself
The FTC explains that stalkerware can monitor online activity, messages, location, photos, and other phone data. If a partner, family member, or another person may have installed it, prioritize personal safety over immediately removing software or resetting the device. Changes can alert an abuser, and researching help on a potentially monitored phone may also be visible.
When appropriate, contact a domestic-violence advocate using a different device and consider a safety plan before changing the phone. The FTC’s stalkerware guidance covers the risks and safety considerations.
