It has an IPX8 water-resistance rating, but Samsung’s rating describes a specific freshwater laboratory test, not a guarantee for swimming, pool use, or every kind of water exposure.
What the Z Flip4’s IPX8 rating covers
Samsung says the Galaxy Z Flip4 meets IPX8 requirements after testing with the phone still and submerged in up to 1.5 meters of fresh water for up to 30 minutes. The test is conducted under IEC 60529 requirements. Those figures describe the test conditions; they do not establish how the phone will fare in every real-world incident. Samsung’s water-resistance guidance explains the test and its limits.

Samsung cautions against using the phone beyond the rated depth or duration and warns against high water pressure. A still-water test should not be treated as approval for swimming, water sports, jets, or moving water.

Can you use the Galaxy Z Flip4 in a pool or at the beach?
Samsung advises against beach or pool use for the Z Flip4. Its guidance also says to avoid salt water and pool water, so the freshwater IPX8 test does not make the phone suitable for an ocean or swimming pool. Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip4 product specifications state the IPX8 rating and the beach-and-pool warning.

What IPX8 does not tell you
It is not a dust rating
The “X” in IPX8 means the rating does not provide a dust-protection classification. Samsung says the Galaxy Z Flip4 is not dust-resistant; do not describe it as dustproof or infer dust protection from IPX8. Samsung’s product specifications identify this limitation.
It does not promise permanent protection
Samsung says water resistance is not permanent and may decline over time or with natural wear. The original rating therefore cannot guarantee that a used or damaged phone still has its initial level of protection. Samsung’s foldable-device care guidance describes this limitation.

It does not cover every liquid
Samsung cautions against liquids and substances including soapy water, oils, perfume, sunscreen, hand sanitizer, cosmetics, and alcohol-containing liquids. The IPX8 freshwater test should not be generalized to these exposures. Samsung’s foldable-device care instructions list these cautions.
What to do if the phone gets wet

If the phone contacts salt water, pool water, soapy water, or another substance listed in Samsung’s care guidance, rinse it with fresh water as directed by Samsung.

Follow Samsung’s device-care instructions if the phone was exposed to a liquid or substance outside the freshwater test conditions.
