Autodesk’s documented route for Revit on an Apple computer is a Windows 11 virtual machine running in Parallels Desktop for Mac. Autodesk’s Revit 2027 system requirements do not describe a native macOS version of Revit, so a MacBook Pro runs Revit inside a Windows environment rather than as a Mac application.
What Autodesk specifies for Revit 2027 on an Apple computer
Autodesk’s Revit 2027 system requirements, as published on its requirements page at the time of writing (October 2026), give a recommended-level configuration for Apple computers. It calls for macOS 13.7 (Ventura) or newer on the host, any Apple silicon chip, 32 GB of host memory, Parallels Desktop for Mac, and Windows 11 inside the virtual machine. The table below sets those figures beside Autodesk’s general Windows configurations for the same release.

The Windows column reflects Autodesk’s Windows configuration recommendations. These figures do not show how a Mac virtual machine performs under the same workload.
Setup prerequisites
Before you install anything, confirm that your Mac meets each of the following:

- 32 GB of host memory. Autodesk assigns 16 GB to the virtual machine, which leaves the remainder for macOS and other applications.
- Parallels Desktop for Mac, installed as the virtualization application.
- Windows 11 installed in the virtual machine.
- At least 40 GB of free disk space, with 100 GB recommended by Autodesk.
A MacBook Pro with less memory than 32 GB may still be able to run a virtual machine, but it falls outside the configuration Autodesk lists for Revit 2027 on Apple computers. Treat any smaller configuration as untested by Autodesk’s published guidance.
Native macOS or a virtual machine?
A native application runs directly on macOS and uses the Mac’s own graphics stack. A virtual machine runs a complete copy of Windows on top of macOS, and Revit runs inside that copy. For you, the practical differences are the separate Windows desktop and file system, the memory you must reserve for the virtual machine, and the graphics limitation covered below. Autodesk’s Mac compatibility article groups products into those that run natively on a Mac and those that can be used on a Mac in a virtualized environment or through Boot Camp. Revit appears in the virtualized group for Apple computers.

Display settings for Retina screens
MacBook Pro displays use Retina resolutions, and Autodesk notes that these can cause scaling problems in Windows and Revit. Its guidance is to turn off the Retina Resolution option in Parallels, then set the DPI in Windows so that Revit’s text and interface are readable.

- Open the display settings for the Windows virtual machine in Parallels Desktop. The exact menu location can vary between Parallels versions.
- Turn off the Retina Resolution option for that virtual machine.
- In Windows, adjust the display scaling (DPI) until Revit’s text and panels are comfortable to read.
- Open Revit and check the interface at the scale you chose. Adjust again if text or dialogs look clipped.
Graphics limitations to plan around
The main technical limitation is graphics. Autodesk states that the Parallels virtual display adapter does not offer Revit’s “Use Hardware Acceleration” option, and that accelerated graphics are not supported with Parallels Desktop for Mac. Revit therefore cannot rely on hardware acceleration in this setup. Models with heavy view navigation, dense 3D views, or graphics-intensive display settings are the workflows most likely to be affected. Autodesk’s published material does not quantify how much slower these views become, so check them against your own models before committing to the setup.

Boot Camp and other routes
Autodesk’s compatibility article notes that Boot Camp requires a separate Windows license. For Revit 2027 on Apple computers, however, the requirements name Parallels Desktop for Mac as the recommended virtualization application. Parallels is therefore the documented route. Do not treat Boot Camp as a universal alternative on Apple silicon Macs, because the Revit 2027 Apple-computer configuration does not list it.
Revit 2026 and version differences
Autodesk’s Revit 2026 requirements also specified Windows and named Parallels Desktop for Mac as the recommended virtualization application for Apple computers. Requirements change between releases, and OS support and virtual graphics capabilities can change too. Check the requirements page for the exact Revit version you plan to install before you buy hardware or plan a deployment.

What the published figures do not establish
Autodesk’s requirements describe a supported configuration. They do not provide a benchmark for any MacBook Pro model, and they do not promise that a particular model, memory tier, or project size will perform acceptably. The memory and disk figures are minimums and recommendations, not measured results for Revit on a Mac. Performance on a given MacBook Pro depends on the chip, the memory you configure, the virtual machine settings, and the models you open.

- Your Revit work involves moderate model sizes and is not dominated by graphics-heavy views.
- You can allocate 16 GB to a Windows virtual machine and keep at least 100 GB of free disk space available.
- You are comfortable managing a Parallels Desktop license and a Windows 11 installation alongside macOS.
Choose a Windows PC that meets Autodesk’s Windows configuration when you need the full graphics capabilities Revit normally uses, when your models are large or complex, or when you need the most predictable performance for production work.
