Yes—Restreamer can publish a continuous video source to YouTube, so it can be part of a 24/7 radio setup with a static image and audio. But the current documentation does not establish that Restreamer itself turns a still image and audio file into a looping video stream. You need a continuous image-plus-audio source first, then configure Restreamer to publish it to YouTube.
What Restreamer does—and what it does not establish
datarhei’s current Restreamer guide to YouTube says that “any video source” can be sent to YouTube through its Publication Service. Its documented workflow is to select the Publication Service, enter a valid YouTube streaming ID, save, and monitor the connection and bitrate.

That makes Restreamer the publishing link in this setup. The guide does not document a current built-in control that combines a still image with an audio file and loops them indefinitely. The project’s README describes a self-hosted streaming server with multiple audio/video inputs and outputs and FFmpeg video processing, but those general capabilities do not verify a one-click static-image radio loop or a particular source-generation workflow.

How the 24/7 setup fits together
- Prepare the source. Provide a continuous encoded video source in which the static image is the video and the radio audio continues. The method depends on the encoder or media workflow you choose; the current Restreamer documentation cited here does not provide a specific command or UI procedure for creating this source.
- Enable YouTube live streaming. YouTube says the channel must be verified and live streaming enabled. For a first-time enablement, activation can take at least 24 hours after you request it. Check the current YouTube live-streaming guidance and allow time before your planned start.
- Configure Restreamer’s Publication Service. In Restreamer, select the Publication Service, enter the YouTube streaming ID, and save. Check the connection and bitrate in Restreamer to confirm that the source is reaching YouTube.
- Monitor the whole chain. YouTube recommends sufficient upload capacity and monitoring stream health. For a 24/7 channel, the source process, host, internet connection, and power also need to remain available. These dependencies mean that publishing capability is not a guarantee of uninterrupted uptime.
Live availability is not the same as an archive
A stream that stays live and a recording that remains available afterward are separate outcomes. Restreamer’s guide advises ending the broadcast on YouTube before interrupting Restreamer; stopping Restreamer first may affect whether YouTube saves the stream in its DVR archive. Treat that as an operational caution, not a guarantee about archive retention.

Restream, a separate relay service, says YouTube has no stream-duration limit and archives streams shorter than 12 hours on its duration help page. That is Restream’s statement about YouTube behavior, not a duration limit imposed by self-hosted datarhei Restreamer. Check current YouTube guidance when archive availability matters.
Reliability and older setup advice
- Bandwidth and stream health: YouTube advises estimating bitrate needs and checking real-world upload capacity. Required throughput depends on the encoding settings and destination setup; there is no single bandwidth figure established for every radio stream.
- Host and process: Because Restreamer is self-hosted, your chosen host and the process producing the source must stay running. The project mentions Raspberry Pi-class single-board computers, but does not establish that any specific model can handle every encoding workload.
- Automatic recovery: The reviewed Restreamer materials do not establish a guarantee of uninterrupted operation or automatic recovery for every source, host, network, or YouTube interruption.
- Legacy instructions: datarhei’s older YouTube guide is marked deprecated and concerns Restreamer 0.6.x. Do not assume its interface details or requirements match a current release.
