Yes. YouTube’s Community Guidelines apply to all content types, including private and unlisted videos, and YouTube says it may issue a strike on deleted content. Its published guidance does not set an age cutoff that makes an old upload immune. That does not mean every old video will be reviewed or struck: enforcement depends on the content and YouTube’s review process.
Why an old video can still be in scope
YouTube says the Community Guidelines apply to all content on its platform, not just public videos. Its guidance also says a Community Guidelines strike may be issued on deleted content. Age alone is therefore not a stated exemption, but YouTube’s official materials do not specify a universal lookback period or maximum age for review.

Review the entire channel, not only public uploads. Depending on what you publish, that can include private and unlisted videos, thumbnails, posts, comments, links, and playlists. YouTube’s policies and enforcement processes can change, so check the current Community Guidelines when assessing a specific item.

- Inventory the channel. In YouTube Studio, review your video library, including older, private, and unlisted uploads. Also check channel material such as thumbnails, posts, comments, and links where relevant.
- Check context-sensitive material against the current rules. Review the policy areas relevant to each item. If a video relies on educational, documentary, scientific, or artistic context, make that context clear in the content itself where appropriate; YouTube says context can affect whether otherwise violative material may remain.
- Look for existing notices. Check the Studio dashboard and Content page, along with email or in-product notifications. Record the specific content and policy identified in a notice rather than guessing at the reason.
- Identify the type of action. Establish whether YouTube issued a Community Guidelines warning or strike, a copyright action, an age restriction, or another limitation. The remedy depends on the action named in the notice.
- Decide what to do before changing or removing content. Deleting a video does not clear an existing strike and may remove the opportunity to appeal. If YouTube took action and you think it was mistaken, read the cited policy and the appeal instructions before deleting the item.
- Revisit the audit periodically. An old upload can remain in scope, and policies or Studio workflows may change. Include the current Guidelines and channel notices in routine channel maintenance.
What a warning or strike means for the channel
YouTube says a first Community Guidelines violation is typically handled with a warning. Some warnings are eligible for optional policy training; when training is completed, the warning expires 90 days after training completion. If the same policy is violated during that 90-day window, the warning may not expire and the channel may receive a strike. Eligibility and details can depend on the warning.
A first strike generally blocks specified posting and publishing actions for one week, while the strike remains on the channel for 90 days. A second strike within that same 90-day period brings a two-week posting restriction; each strike expires 90 days after issuance. Three strikes within 90 days may result in permanent channel removal. YouTube also says severe abuse can lead to termination without a warning. YouTube reports that over 86% of creators with a Community Guidelines violation only get a warning. That is a platform-wide figure published on its Community Guidelines tips page, with no year stated there; it is not an estimate of the odds for an individual creator or a particular old video.

How YouTube reviews flagged content
A user report is not, by itself, proof that a video violated policy. YouTube says flagged material is reviewed by trained human reviewers. It also describes automated enforcement in some cases, including spam and reuploads already reviewed and found to violate policy. YouTube’s Transparency Report explains its enforcement approach. The official materials do not establish a fixed time limit after upload during which a report or review can happen.

How to appeal a warning or strike
If you believe a warning or strike was issued in error, compare the notice with the policy it names, then use the available appeal flow in YouTube Studio’s Channel violations area. YouTube says warnings and strikes can be appealed within six months of issuance; content removals have a separate stated appeal window. An appeal triggers another review, but success is not guaranteed. See YouTube’s appeal guidance for the current process and deadlines.
Do not delete the video in an attempt to erase a strike. YouTube Help states: “Deleting your content doesn’t remove a strike.” YouTube also warns that deleting a video can mean you cannot appeal it. Do not try to evade an active posting restriction by creating or using another channel; YouTube describes that as circumvention in its strike guidance.

Tell a Community Guidelines strike apart from other actions

| Community Guidelines warning or strike | A platform-policy enforcement action under YouTube’s Community Guidelines. |
| Copyright claim or Content ID claim | A copyright-related match or claim; it is not automatically a Community Guidelines strike. |
| Copyright strike | A separate copyright action associated with a copyright removal request. |
| Age restriction or limited features | A viewing or feature restriction that is not, by itself, the same as a Community Guidelines strike. |
Use the exact action named in YouTube’s notification. A video disappearing or becoming restricted does not, by itself, tell you which process was involved.
