Yes. YouTube’s general documentation says you can create a custom stream key for reuse, or load settings from a previous stream. That lets an encoder reconnect using the same key; it does not make the playlist loop, keep the encoder running, or guarantee an uninterrupted 24/7 broadcast. The cited YouTube guidance describes general rules and does not identify a separate India-specific rule for reusing keys.
What reusing a stream key does—and does not do
A stream key is the credential your encoder uses to send its feed to YouTube. YouTube explicitly says: “To reuse the same stream key, create a custom stream key.” You can also load a previous stream’s settings, including its key. YouTube Help: Manage live stream settings
Reuse concerns the connection settings, not the stream’s lifecycle. Your encoder still has to send video and audio. The key alone does not schedule a broadcast, loop a playlist, monitor the connection, restart a failed feed, or guarantee that YouTube will treat repeated connections as one event.
Set up a reusable key in YouTube Studio
- Check live-stream eligibility. YouTube’s current guidance says a channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days. It lists a minimum age of 16, up to 10 active streams per channel, and up to 3 active streams per stream key. These are YouTube Help figures recorded in 2026; the pages do not display a publication year, and platform requirements can change. See Get started with live streaming.
- Open the Stream tab. In YouTube Studio, select Create > Go live, then open the Stream tab in Live Control Room. The labels or placement may vary as YouTube updates Studio.
- Create a custom key. Choose a custom stream key if you want a key intended for reuse. Alternatively, load settings from a previous stream when returning to the encoder workflow. YouTube’s instructions describe both reusing a key and loading prior settings. Manage live stream settings
- Configure your encoder. Copy the YouTube Live server URL and stream key from Live Control Room into the corresponding fields in your encoder. Keep the key private: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your stream. If it is exposed or compromised, reset it in Live Control Room and replace the old key in the encoder.
- Start the feed and check the preview. Start streaming from the encoder and confirm that video and audio appear in Live Control Room. Follow the start and end controls for the stream mode you selected; the encoder workflow is what sends the feed. YouTube’s encoder setup guide explains the connection steps: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- For another session, reconnect with the same key. Reuse the custom key or load the saved stream settings, then start the encoder feed again. This is a new connection using the saved credential; it is not proof that separate sessions become one continuous event.
Repeated sessions versus one continuous 24/7 stream
| Question | Repeated sessions with a reusable key | One continuous 24/7 broadcast |
|---|---|---|
| What is reused? | The custom key, and optionally prior stream settings. | An encoder may use the same key, but YouTube’s cited guidance does not establish special continuous-event behavior. |
| What must stay active? | The encoder sends a feed for each session; it can be stopped and started again. | The feed must remain live continuously. The cited guidance does not specify uptime guarantees or how restarts affect the event. |
| What about the archive? | YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. | That statement does not promise a single archive for a broadcast longer than 12 hours. |
| What should you monitor? | Reconnect with the saved key when starting another session, and reset it if compromised. | Monitor encoder and feed continuity as well as audio and video quality. |
The 12-hour archive statement is YouTube’s current guidance recorded in 2026; the page does not show a publication year. Read the exact qualification in YouTube’s encoder setup guidance. Do not assume a longer stream will be archived as one video based on that rule.

What you need for a 24/7 playlist
To keep a pre-recorded playlist live, something must continuously send the video feed to YouTube and handle the playlist. YouTube describes software and hardware encoder options, and recommends professional-grade hardware encoders for higher-production-value events; it does not say dedicated hardware is required for a continuous playlist. See YouTube live streaming tips.
- DIY setup: Use an encoder or playback system configured to send your playlist, and keep the device, power, network connection, and software operating. A reusable key simplifies reconnecting; it does not do the looping or recovery.
- Cloud setup: A service can run an uploaded-video playlist remotely, so your home computer does not need to stay on. This is an alternative operating method, not a YouTube requirement.
For an Indian channel, the key-reuse procedure above is the same general YouTube guidance; the cited official pages do not establish a different India-only rule. Check the channel’s live eligibility and keep the stream compliant with YouTube’s policies, including copyright rules for the videos and audio you broadcast.
