Probably, but there is no universal guarantee. A banking app may continue to open after Samsung stops sending firmware updates, yet the bank can later require a newer Android release, a newer security patch, or an unmodified device. Also, the idea that every Galaxy A04s has already reached the end of updates is not correct as of October 17, 2026: Samsung’s record for model SM-A047M shows Android 14 released on September 14, 2026, with the August 5, 2026 security patch, and Samsung currently places the Galaxy A04s in its quarterly security-update category. What the latest Galaxy A04s update records actually show
Samsung’s public records do not establish one worldwide end date for every Galaxy A04s. The model number, sales region and service provider affect both availability and timing.

For the SM-A047M variant, Samsung lists an Android 14 update released on September 14, 2026, with a security-patch level dated August 5, 2026. That entry proves the build exists for that variant; it does not prove that every A04s sold elsewhere received the same firmware.

Quarterly support listing
Samsung’s current security-scope page includes Galaxy A04s in the quarterly security-update group. “Quarterly” describes the category, not a promise that every country receives a patch on the same day. Samsung says timing can vary by device version, model and service version.

How to identify your phone’s state
- Open Settings > About phone and note the model number. Galaxy A04s variants generally begin with
SM-A047, followed by a regional suffix. - Open Settings > About phone > Software information and record the Android version and Android security patch level. Menu wording can differ by software version.
- Open Settings > Software update, choose Download and install, and apply any update offered for your device.
- Compare the model and patch level with Samsung’s update record for your country and carrier. Do not assume that another A04s variant’s listing applies to yours.
If your phone offers no newer firmware, that is a statement about the update channel for your particular handset, not proof that all Galaxy A04s phones have stopped receiving updates.
Why a bank, not Samsung, makes the final compatibility decision
Samsung controls firmware distribution. The bank controls the app’s minimum Android version, integrity checks and server-side access rules. A bank can raise its requirements months or years after a manufacturer changes its patch schedule.
Android version is only one gate
An app may check the Android release, whether Google Play can install the current app, and whether the device passes security-integrity tests. Meeting the published Android minimum therefore does not guarantee access.

Root, modifications and Developer Options
Some banks reject rooted, jailbroken or otherwise modified phones. BPI’s published Android guidance requires Android 10 or later, a device that is not rooted, jailbroken or modified, and Developer Options turned off. Tesco Bank also lists Android 10 or later and says rooted devices are unsupported. These rules show that configuration can matter independently of patch age.

Patch age may be checked separately
The policies reviewed do not establish that every named bank blocks a phone solely because its security patch is old. A bank can nevertheless add such a check later. Look for wording about “security patch,” “device integrity,” “Play Integrity,” “certified device” or “supported operating system,” rather than reading an Android-version number as a complete guarantee.
Published minimum Android versions vary by bank
The following examples were current on October 13, 2026. They come from different countries and illustrate policy variation; they are not a forecast for your bank.

These examples span Android 10 through Android 13. They demonstrate why the name “Galaxy A04s” alone cannot answer the question: the phone’s Android 14 build is above each listed minimum, but a future bank policy could demand a newer release or a recent patch.

- Identify the bank and country. Use the support page or app listing for the legal entity serving your account, not a similarly named bank in another market.
- Read the current requirements. Find the minimum Android version, supported app version, root or modification restrictions, and any wording about security-patch recency or device certification.
- Check Google Play compatibility. In Google Play, open the bank’s official listing while signed in on the A04s. “This app is no longer compatible with your device” is a stronger warning than an app that merely has not yet been updated.
- Update the app. In Google Play, open your profile, choose Manage apps & device, and install the bank’s update. Keep Google Play services current as well.
- Test a low-risk action. Sign in and check balances before you need to make a time-critical payment. Do not send a transfer solely as a compatibility test.
- Ask the bank directly if wording is unclear. Ask whether it checks Android version only, the security-patch date, device certification, root status, or all of these. Record the answer and the date because policies change.
What to do if the app still works after Samsung support changes
Continued operation is not the same as continued security support. If the app opens and the bank still lists your Android version as supported, keep the phone in its normal, unmodified state and reduce avoidable risk.

- Install every Samsung update offered for your exact variant and every update for the banking app.
- Keep a screen lock enabled and use the phone’s built-in biometric or passcode protection where the bank supports it.
- Do not root the phone, unlock it to install modified firmware, or turn on Developer Options to bypass an app warning. Those changes can violate bank requirements and weaken the device’s trust checks.
- Use Google Play rather than sideloading a banking APK. A download from an unofficial source can be altered and may not receive the bank’s normal update path.
- Remove banking access from a phone that is lost, stolen or no longer under your control by contacting the bank through its official emergency channel.
These precautions do not create new security patches. They simply avoid adding known configuration risks while the bank continues to support the handset.
Signs that support is ending
The app refuses to install or update
If Google Play says the app is incompatible, check the bank’s current minimum Android version and whether your variant is certified. Clearing Play Store cache may fix a temporary listing error, but it cannot make an unsupported Android release meet a genuine minimum.
A message requires an OS or security update
Read the exact wording and deadline. An Android-version block may be resolved only by a firmware upgrade or a newer phone. A security-patch or integrity warning may require a supported patch level, an uncertified-device fix, or removal of root or modified software.

Banks can apply stricter checks to transfers, new payees or high-value actions than to viewing balances. Stop retrying if the bank reports a security failure; repeated attempts can trigger fraud controls. Use the bank’s official support route to confirm the reason.

The app crashes after an update
Restart the phone, confirm that Android System WebView and Google Play services are current, and check the bank’s outage page. Avoid deleting app data until you have confirmed that you can recover your sign-in and second-factor credentials. If the crash is limited to the A04s, report the model number and Android build to the bank.

Browser-based online banking
Some banks provide the same core services through a web browser. Tesco Bank identifies Online Banking for customers whose device cannot be upgraded. Bank of Ireland documents browser access using a physical security key. These are bank-specific arrangements: verify which payments, authentication methods and account types are supported before depending on them.
Another supported device
You can move the banking app to a newer phone that the bank currently supports. Before buying, check the exact model’s Android version, security-update commitment in your market, Google Play certification and the bank’s requirements. The A04s name alone is not a replacement-phone specification, and no single replacement model is suitable for every country or budget.

Your bank may offer telephone support, branch transactions or another official authentication method. Ask about fees, transfer limits and identity checks. Never treat an unofficial “support” number found in a message or search advertisement as an alternative access route.
When replacing the A04s becomes the sensible choice
Consider moving banking to a supported phone when the A04s no longer receives security patches for your variant, the bank announces an imminent minimum-version or patch deadline, or essential transactions fail and no official browser or telephone route meets your needs. This is a risk-management decision, not proof that every bank immediately blocks an unpatched A04s.
Evaluate a replacement on four points:
- Support horizon: how long the manufacturer promises security updates for the exact regional model.
- Bank compatibility: the bank’s current Android, app-version and integrity requirements.
- Authentication: whether the phone supports the bank’s biometrics, passkeys, hardware keys or one-time-password method.
- Migration: how you will transfer the banking app, SIM, authenticator and recovery codes without losing access.
Keep the old phone available until the new device can sign in, approve a test action and receive all required security codes. Then remove banking data from the old handset before recycling or selling it.
Bottom line for Galaxy A04s owners
As of October 17, 2026, Samsung’s records show that at least one Galaxy A04s variant has Android 14 and an August 5, 2026 security patch, while the A04s remains listed in Samsung’s quarterly security-update scope. So “updates have ended” is not a universal description of the model today. If your particular phone eventually stops receiving patches, the bank may still let its app run, but it can independently require a newer Android version, a newer patch, a certified device or an unmodified configuration. Check your variant and patch level, read your bank’s current policy, and arrange an official web route or supported phone before access becomes urgent.
