Yes. Connect the PS4’s HDMI OUT port to an HDMI input on your computer monitor, then select that HDMI input on the monitor. Picture and sound are separate considerations: some monitors have no speakers, and audio options depend on the monitor’s ports and the PS4 model.
Connect a PS4 to a monitor with HDMI
- Turn off or put the PS4 and monitor in standby before connecting.
- Connect an HDMI cable from the PS4’s HDMI OUT port to an HDMI input on the monitor. Sony gives this as the standard PS4-to-screen connection: PS4 setup instructions.
- Turn on the monitor and select the HDMI input you used.
- Turn on the PS4. If the screen stays blank, check that the cable is seated at both ends, the monitor is on the correct input, and the display accepts the PS4’s output signal.
Check the monitor’s manual or specifications for supported inputs, formats, and audio features; they vary by model.

Choose how to get sound
An HDMI connection can carry audio as well as video, but whether you can hear it from the monitor depends on its features. LG notes that some monitors do not have built-in speakers, while Samsung describes HDMI audio passing to a headphone jack on some monitor models.

Monitor speakers
If your monitor has built-in speakers, check its volume and mute settings. Confirm in the specifications that the model includes speakers rather than assuming every monitor plays sound.

Monitor headphone output
If the monitor has a headphone output and supports HDMI audio pass-through, connect headphones or powered speakers to that output. Verify that the port is an audio output and that the monitor routes HDMI sound to it; the feature is model-dependent. Headphones connected to the controller
Connect a compatible headset to the controller, then on the PS4 open Settings > Devices > Audio Devices > Output to Headphones. Sony says the default is Chat Audio; select the available option that suits your needs. Compatible headsets can receive all audio or chat audio. Details are in Sony’s PS4 audio-output instructions.

Optical audio
Optical audio is an option only if both the console and audio device have optical connections. Check the console’s revision first: Sony says the CUH-2000 series has no optical digital output.

If your monitor only has VGA
The PS4’s standard screen connection is HDMI. A monitor with VGA only therefore needs a converter designed to take an HDMI source to a VGA display. VGA does not carry audio, so the converter can provide a video path but sound needs a separate route, such as a compatible headset connected to the controller. ASUS specifically notes that audio is discarded when HDMI is converted to VGA: ASUS HDMI-to-VGA audio guidance.

Before buying a converter, check its direction, whether it needs USB power, supported resolution, HDCP compatibility, and whether it offers a separate audio output. Do not assume an HDMI-to-DVI connection will send sound to a monitor’s headphone jack; Samsung says HDMI-to-DVI does not carry audio to that output.
Check HDR requirements if you want HDR
Sony’s PS4 HDR guidance calls for a Premium HDMI cable, a 2K or 4K HDR10-capable display, HDR-capable content, and PS4 system software version 7.0 or later. Set the console’s HDR and Deep Colour output options to Automatic. Sony’s guidance specifies a direct connection for this HDR setup rather than routing through a receiver or switch box: Sony’s PS4 HDR setup instructions.

Understand HDCP before troubleshooting a blank screen
Sony says HDCP is enabled by default for PS4 HDMI output. A connected device that is not HDCP-compatible can prevent both video and audio output. Sony documents the setting at Settings > System > Enable HDCP. Disabling HDCP is for gameplay only; Blu-ray and DVD playback, as well as DRM-protected streaming, require HDCP enabled. It is not a universal fix for display problems.
