Apple’s Thailand store sells iPhones, and Apple says iPhones bought through its Thailand online store are SIM-free. The catch is what happens after the purchase: Thai orders ship only to Thai addresses, returns must be made in Thailand, and a tourist VAT refund depends on the seller and on paperwork you must complete at the airport. Whether it is worth buying there comes down to those details, not the baht sticker price.
How a visitor can actually buy one
Apple’s Thailand store lists the current iPhone lineup with prices in Thai baht. Models, prices and stock change often, so use the live page rather than any figure quoted elsewhere, including here.

Online order, pickup or in-person purchase
Apple’s Thailand sales terms say orders placed online or through its contact center ship only to addresses in Thailand, and Apple says it will not ship to a freight forwarder. If you have no Thai address to receive a parcel (a hotel or a host’s home can work if you will be there on delivery), your realistic options are:
- Store pickup: available for many items, but some products and payment methods do not qualify. Confirm the specific model and location before relying on it.
- Buying in person: check stock first, since no particular model can be assumed to be available.
Is the iPhone unlocked? SIM and eSIM checks
Apple’s Thailand shopping help says: “When you purchase your iPhone from the Apple Online Store, you will get it SIM-free.” That means you can choose your own carrier. It does not guarantee that every carrier, band or feature will work in your home country.
#1 Best Overall
- This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).
- Please check with your carrier to verify compatibility.
- The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a generic (Mfi certified) charging cable.
- Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.
- Apple Support says SIM configurations vary by country and region, so check the exact model number against what you are buying.
- Apple says iPhone 13 and later support dual eSIM. If your home carrier needs a physical SIM or has specific eSIM activation rules, confirm that before you pay.
- Check your carrier’s supported bands and activation requirements for that model.
- Do not cut or modify a SIM to fit. Apple warns this can block cellular connection or some features, and damage to the SIM tray or device is not covered by the hardware warranty. Ask your carrier for a correctly sized SIM instead.
Is an iPhone cheaper in Thailand?
No reliable, current cross-country comparison exists, so there is no basis for saying Thailand is generally cheaper. Compare the live Thai baht price with your home market’s current price for the same storage size and model, then adjust for:
- Currency conversion and card fees: Apple notes that international card exchange rates and issuer fees can change the effective cost.
- Tax refund: count it only if the seller has confirmed it can issue the required documents and you meet the official conditions (see below).
- Service inconvenience: the warranty and return limits in the next section have a cost if something goes wrong.
Warranty, returns and support
Apple Thailand’s shopping help describes 90 days of technical support and a one-year limited hardware warranty covering the iPhone, battery and included accessories for defects. Apple’s sales policy separately describes a one-year limited manufacturer warranty for new Apple-branded products.
Rank #2
- Fully unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US-Cellular, Cricket, Metro, etc.).
- Inspected and guaranteed to have minimal cosmetic damage, which is not noticeable when the device is held at arm's length.
- Successfully passed a full diagnostic test which ensures like-new functionality and removal of any prior-user personal information.
- The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a charging cable that may be generic.
- Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.
Returns are the bigger constraint. Apple’s Thailand terms state a product can be returned only in the country or region where it was bought, and a product from a Thai store can only be returned and refunded to that original store. The terms describe a 14-day return window for an undamaged product with packaging and receipt, and refunds are domestic, with stated restrictions on the destination bank account. Assume you cannot complete a return once you have left Thailand.

Warranty terms are governed by Apple’s applicable warranty documentation. Nothing established here confirms that every service or replacement option is offered in every home country, so check Apple’s support options in the country where you will live with the phone.

Can tourists get VAT back on an iPhone in Thailand?
Possibly, but only under conditions. The figures below come from the Thailand Revenue Department’s VAT Refund for Tourists FAQ, whose page was last updated in 2022. Confirm the current procedure with the Department and the seller before you travel.
Eligibility
- You must spend at least ฿2,000 at a store displaying the VAT Refund for Tourists sign.
- The purchase must be goods, not services, from a participating retailer.
- The goods must leave Thailand by air from an international airport within 60 days of purchase.
- Travelers who reside in Thailand or stay more than 180 days do not qualify.
Nothing reviewed confirms that every Apple Store or authorized reseller participates. Ask the specific seller before buying, and do not build a refund into your budget until participation is confirmed.
Rank #4
- This pre-owned product is not Apple certified, but has been professionally inspected, tested and cleaned by Amazon-qualified suppliers.
- There will be no visible cosmetic imperfections when held at an arm’s length.
- This product is eligible for a replacement or refund within 90 days of receipt if you are not satisfied.
- Product may come in generic Box.
Steps at the store
- Ask the seller for a P.P.10 or e-P.P.10 form plus the original tax invoice.
- Check that both are issued correctly before leaving.
Steps at the airport, and why a phone is special
The Department classifies a mobile phone or smartphone costing ฿10,000 or more per item as a luxury good. In its words, “Tourists who purchased the luxury goods have to declare them twice.”
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors- Before check-in, present the phone and documents to Customs for inspection.
- Go through immigration.
- Submit the paperwork at the VAT Refund for Tourists Office, again presenting the phone for reinspection.
This means the phone must be in your carry-on, not checked luggage, and you should allow extra time at the airport. The refund amount for a given retailer has not been established, so treat any figure as unconfirmed until the seller states it.

- Unlocked for freedom to choose your carrier. Compatible with both GSM & CDMA networks. The phone is unlocked to work with all GSM Carriers & CDMA Carriers Including AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, Straight Talk., Etc.
Decision checklist before you buy
- Total cost: live Thai price, conversion, card fees, and a refund only if confirmed.
- Connectivity: exact model, SIM or eSIM support, carrier compatibility and activation.
- Support: where you can get warranty service at home, and acceptance that returns must happen in Thailand.
- Logistics: stock, pickup eligibility, delivery address, departure airport and timing for the VAT process.
The Bottom Line
You can buy an iPhone in Thailand, and it will be SIM-free. It makes sense mainly if a live price comparison shows a clear saving after fees and you are comfortable with Thai-only returns and uncertain home-country service. Don’t count on a VAT refund until the seller confirms it.
