No—not as a glucose reading. Huawei describes its blood sugar feature as a multi-day health study that uses signals such as sleep and heart rate to assess whether high blood sugar risk may be present. It does not describe the watch as measuring glucose concentration or replacing a continuous glucose monitor (CGM).
What Huawei’s blood sugar feature does
Huawei says the watch collects daytime and nighttime physiological data, including sleep and heart rate, then evaluates high blood sugar risk after three to fourteen days of wear. That is a risk assessment based on collected signals—not an instant glucose result or a continuous stream of glucose readings. Huawei’s description is on its Blood Sugar Health Study support page.

Risk assessment versus glucose monitoring
| Question | Huawei blood sugar study | Glucose meter or CGM |
|---|---|---|
| What does it provide? | An assessment of high blood sugar risk, according to Huawei. | A glucose measurement; the precise method and cadence depend on the device. |
| How does it obtain information? | Huawei describes collecting physiological data such as sleep and heart rate over several days. | Glucose meters and CGMs are separate measuring devices. Consult the device instructions and a healthcare professional about which type is appropriate. |
| Can it guide treatment? | No. Huawei says the feature is not a medical device and its results are not for diagnosis or treatment. | Use a device and monitoring plan recommended for your care; do not substitute a watch risk assessment. |
| What does the evidence establish? | Huawei’s cited support pages do not state an accuracy figure or clinical performance comparison. | Authorization and intended use vary by specific device. See the FDA’s overview of blood glucose monitoring devices. |
A watch displaying data from a separate glucose-measuring device is different from a watch claiming to measure glucose by itself. The FDA makes this distinction in its guidance and warns consumers not to use smartwatches or smart rings that claim to measure blood glucose without piercing the skin: FDA safety communication.

Who Huawei says the study is for
Huawei identifies adults concerned about blood sugar—including healthy adults and people with type 2 prediabetes or type 2 diabetes—as its intended audience. A Huawei support page excludes people with type 1 diabetes, gestational diabetes and certain other special types of diabetes from the listed intended population. This is Huawei’s description of the feature, not a clinical recommendation.

Huawei states, “This feature is not intended for medical use.” It says results are for reference and should not be used to diagnose or treat a condition. Do not use the assessment to adjust insulin, make treatment decisions, or replace a prescribed monitoring plan.

What to use if you need glucose measurements
If your care requires glucose readings, ask your healthcare professional which glucose meter or FDA-authorized CGM is appropriate and how to use the results. The FDA advises people whose care depends on accurate measurements to discuss an appropriate authorized device with a healthcare provider. A Huawei risk assessment is not a substitute for measurements from a separate device.
