Yes. Gemini can place an ordinary call to a saved contact on Android, including a friend or family member, and this feature is not exclusive to Pixel 11. Pixel 11’s separate Gemini task-calling feature is designed for calls that handle business errands, such as booking a restaurant table. It does not mean Gemini can independently call your relatives for you.
Can Gemini call your mom or another saved contact?
Yes. In the Gemini mobile app on a supported Android phone or tablet, you can ask it to call someone in your saved contacts. Google gives examples such as “Call [contact full name]” and “I need to talk to [contact name]. Can you call them?” You can specify which number to use, too: “Call [contact first name]’s mobile number.” Gemini places the call through the device’s default phone app.

A relationship-based request such as “Call my sister” can work if you have saved that relationship in your Gemini instructions. If Gemini is unsure which contact or number you mean, make the request more specific. You can also add @Phone to a prompt. What you need for an ordinary contact call
- An Android phone or tablet with an active mobile plan.
- The Gemini app and saved contact information accessible from your signed-in devices.
- Phone permission for the Google app.
Contact syncing can help Gemini find the right person; Google also says Contacts or Call Logs permission can be granted to improve contact selection. The Phone integration is not available in Gemini in Google Messages or in the Gemini web app.

To allow calls and messages while the device is locked, enable the relevant locked-device setting in Gemini. The setting’s wording can vary by device and software version, and this does not guarantee every request will work while locked. Google’s guidance on Gemini when a phone is locked describes the setting.
How Pixel 11’s task-handling calls differ
Google documents a separate feature in which Gemini calls a business to carry out a task, such as asking for information, booking or managing an appointment or reservation, navigating a phone menu, or waiting on hold. For example, you could ask it to call a restaurant and book a table for two at 7 PM tomorrow. This is a business-task call, not a feature for autonomously reaching friends and family.

- A Pixel 11 with a US SIM, used in the United States.
- Age 18 or older and a Google AI subscription.
- The public beta version of Phone by Google and the latest Gemini app.
- English as the device language.
Google says access is rolling out gradually, so meeting the listed requirements does not guarantee the feature is already available on a particular phone. A Pixel 11 purchase alone is not sufficient. The cited help page requires a Google AI subscription but does not specify its price. The feature currently calls US phone numbers only. Google’s task-calling instructions list the requirements and availability details.

Review and control before and during a task call
- Tell Gemini what you want done and include useful details, such as the date, time, preferences, and acceptable alternatives.
- Review Gemini’s summary of the task, the number it will call, and the information it plans to share, which may include your name and contact details. Revise the request if needed.
- Tap “Call for me” to start. You can follow a live transcript or audio, cancel before the call connects, or unmute the microphone to take over.
- After the call, view Gemini’s summary. The full transcript and recording are available in the Phone app’s call history.
Gemini uses your phone number and mobile network for these calls, so standard carrier rates apply. Google says Gemini starts each call by identifying itself as Google’s AI assistant calling on your behalf on a recorded line and stating your name. The call is disclosed as recorded; do not treat this as an undisclosed conversation.
What Gemini cannot do on task calls
- Call emergency services. In an emergency, use the phone’s calling app directly.
- Complete financial transactions.
- Share sensitive personal information such as passwords or health information.
- Make telemarketing calls.
Google also says daily limits apply to task calls but does not give a numeric limit on the cited help page.

Proactive Assistance is call context, not a caller
Pixel Proactive Assistance is a separate feature that can surface suggestions in the Phone app when you call someone linked to an email or contact. For a non-business contact, a suggestion may show the last interaction. It provides context around a call; it is not Gemini placing a call to your friend or relative.
Google lists Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro XL, and Pixel 11 Pro Fold for Proactive Assistance. Its listed availability is Australia (English), Canada (English), India (English), Japan (Japanese), Malaysia (English), Singapore (English), and the United States (English). Users must be at least 18 and signed in with a personal Google Account. The feature is opt-in, and users can control connected apps. Google says it may use screen content and notifications, selected Personal Intelligence apps, additional apps, and location data. Review those data-access choices before enabling it.
