Yes. FFmpeg’s acrossfade filter can blend one rain recording into the next, while -stream_loop -1 repeats an input indefinitely. They solve different problems: looping repeats audio; crossfading softens a transition. YouTube Live also needs a continuing video track, and the broadcast lasts only while the encoder, host, and connection keep working.
How do I crossfade rain recordings with FFmpeg?
Use acrossfade to transition between audio streams. It applies the fade near the end of one stream and into the next. Its duration and fade curves are configurable; the official FFmpeg example acrossfade=d=10:c1=exp:c2=exp illustrates one option, not a universally suitable setting. Choose the duration by listening to your material: a transition that is too short may sound abrupt, while a long one can create a noticeable level dip or overlap.
For an ordered set of recordings, build a filter graph that connects the clips in the intended sequence, then map the resulting audio stream to the output. The exact command depends on the number, duration, codec, and channel layout of your clips, as well as how you supply video. FFmpeg’s filter documentation describes acrossfade and its options; avoid treating one command as guaranteed to work unchanged with arbitrary files.
Looping a single recording is not the same as crossfading
FFmpeg’s -stream_loop -1 input option repeats the chosen file indefinitely. Put the option before that input’s -i option. This starts the file over; it does not blend the end into the beginning. If the boundary is audible, prepare a loop whose ends meet smoothly or create a filter design that adds a transition at each repeat. See FFmpeg’s full documentation for the input option and command syntax.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Crossfade sequential clips; mix simultaneous beds
Use acrossfade when one rain recording should give way to another. If you want two layers playing at the same time—for example, a rain bed under distant thunder—amix is the relevant kind of operation. Manage the combined levels: FFmpeg notes that disabling amix normalization can cause heavy clipping when inputs are not normalized.
How do I send the rain audio to YouTube Live?
YouTube Live receives an audiovisual stream, not an audio-only broadcast. Supply a video track that continues for the full output—such as a still image, animation, or looping visual—and configure it to match the stream you intend to send. YouTube’s current live encoder settings list RTMP/RTMPS ingest, H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 video, AAC or MP3 audio, constant bitrate (CBR), and frame rates up to 60 fps. YouTube recommends RTMPS to encrypt data in transit to its servers.

How do I stop a gap when one rain recording switches to another?
- Arrange the recordings in the intended order. Confirm that each input is readable and that the channel layouts are compatible with your filter graph.
- Connect the audio streams with
acrossfade. Set a deliberate transition duration and, if needed, separate fade curves for the outgoing and incoming audio. FFmpeg documents controls for duration, overlap, and curves; there is no single duration that fits every rain recording. - Listen across every transition. Check for a brief silence, a dip or peak in loudness, clipping, or a sudden change in the character of the rain. Adjust the transition or levels where needed.
- Map the filtered audio and continuing video to the output. Make sure the selected video source lasts as long as the intended broadcast and that its frame rate and encoding fit your YouTube settings.
- Test before going live. YouTube advises testing with audio and video similar to the planned stream. Listen to the ingest preview and viewer playback, then watch stream health and messages during the broadcast.
What does “nonstop” mean with FFmpeg?
An infinite input loop keeps FFmpeg supplied with repeated media; it does not supervise the FFmpeg process, restore a failed network connection, or guarantee that a YouTube live event stays connected. YouTube recommends testing and monitoring stream health, but the documentation does not prescribe one universal recovery design. Plan for the host, encoder process, and connection to remain available, and use an approach appropriate to your hosting environment if you need recovery after a failure.
