FamWake explicitly describes calculating a wake-up time for each family member and letting each person choose an alarm sound. Sync Alarm separates shared group alarms from personal alarms and supports weekday or calendar-date schedules, but its listing does not promise a different sound for every member of one group alarm. SynClock offers accepted group alarms, recurrence controls and tone choices without documenting member-by-member sound profiles. Crickets Alarm describes shared, instantly synced schedules for mismatched routines, but the listing reviewed here does not establish per-person sound controls.
That distinction matters: a “shared alarm” may mean one alarm copied to several phones, while an “individual profile” gives each person a separate time, sound and recurrence. Check those controls, synchronization behavior, platform support and device limits before choosing an app.

What “different alarms” can mean
Families usually mean one of three things when they ask this question:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- Different wake times: one person gets up at 6:00, another at 6:45, and a third only on weekends.
- Different sounds: each phone uses a tone that its owner recognizes or tolerates, rather than every device playing the same alert.
- Different alarm types: a shared household alarm coordinates everyone, while a personal alarm rings only for one member.
These are separate capabilities. An app can synchronize one group alarm to several devices without storing an independent sound or schedule for each participant. Conversely, an app can let every person maintain personal alarms without offering a coordinated household event. Read the feature description for both concepts instead of assuming that “family” or “shared” means full per-person customization.

Which current apps document individualized controls?
FamWake: strongest match for different times and sounds
FamWake Family Alarm Clock is the clearest match for a household with staggered mornings. Its store descriptions say the app calculates a wake-up time for each family member around practical needs such as bathroom use, breakfast and departure. The same listings explicitly describe letting members choose an alarm sound. That combination supports the reader’s exact use case: a shared family routine with individualized wake times and audio.
The descriptions also refer to shared schedule notifications, so the household can see the resulting plan rather than maintaining isolated alarms with no coordination. They do not establish how many members a plan supports, whether every sound is available on every platform, or whether an alarm is guaranteed to play. Treat those as questions to verify on the current store page.
Check the current listings before installing: the Apple page is FamWake Family Alarm Clock on the Apple App Store, and the Android listing is FamWake Family Alarm Clock on Google Play. Google Play reported an update on September 10, 2026, so labels and compatibility may have changed since an earlier description.

Sync Alarm: group alarms plus private personal alarms
Sync Alarm – Share with Family describes two distinct modes. A group alarm is reflected on group members’ devices, while a personal alarm rings only for the individual who created it. It also supports weekday schedules and calendar-date settings, making it suitable for school days, rotating work shifts, appointments or one-off events.
The listing does not explicitly say that each member can select a different sound for the same group alarm. If sound personalization is essential, use the personal-alarm mode where each person controls their own alert, or confirm that the current release added per-member sound selection.
Synchronization is not entirely automatic in the background according to the listing. After a group change, each device must open the app or tap the notification to synchronize. The free plan is described as supporting two devices; adding devices requires a purchase or monthly subscription under the terms shown in that listing. Those terms are changeable, so verify them in the store before relying on a household-wide setup. The current listing is Sync Alarm – Share with Family on the Apple App Store.

SynClock: accepted group alarms with recurrence and tone choices
SynClock: Shared Alarm Clock focuses on group coordination. A shared alarm requires members to accept it before it rings, and the listing describes recurrence by weekday, date or month. Tone and audio choices are available at the alarm level.
What the listing does not establish is an individual sound profile for each participant in one shared alarm. That means SynClock may work well when everyone agrees to the same event and available tone, but you should not promise a different sound for each family member without confirming that behavior in the current app. Google Play reported an update on October 7, 2026; review the latest requirements and controls at SynClock: Shared Alarm Clock on Google Play.
Crickets Alarm: shared schedules for mismatched routines
Crickets Alarm’s listing describes shared wake-up schedules, instant syncing and use by people whose schedules do not match. That makes it relevant to households with different start times. However, the listing examined here does not establish per-person sound controls, so do not assume that each member can assign a unique tone.

How to choose the right setup
Choose individualized profiles when mornings are genuinely different
Pick an app with explicit per-member schedules and sound selection when children, adults or shift workers rise at different times. FamWake is the best-supported example in the available descriptions because both calculations for individual wake times and sound choice are named. Before committing, verify whether every person can edit only their own alarm, whether one person can change the household plan, and whether schedule changes notify everyone.

Choose a group-plus-personal model when coordination and privacy both matter
Sync Alarm’s two-mode design fits a family that needs occasional shared events but does not want every alarm copied to every phone. Use a group alarm for a joint departure or appointment; use personal alarms for private wake times. Plan around the synchronization requirement: a member who never opens the app or taps the notification may not receive the latest group change on that device.
Best Value
Choose accepted group alarms when consent is important
SynClock’s acceptance step is useful when a shared alarm should not begin ringing for someone until that person agrees. Its weekday, date and monthly recurrence choices can cover recurring school or work routines. The trade-off is uncertainty about individual sound profiles; confirm that point if different tones are a requirement.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.A practical setup workflow
- List each person’s requirements. Write down wake time, active days, one-off dates, preferred sound and whether the alarm should be shared or private. This prevents a group event from being mistaken for a personal alarm.
- Check every device and operating-system requirement. Compare the current store pages for each phone or tablet. In particular, verify the iOS 26.0 requirement shown for Crickets Alarm in the U.S. listing and confirm current Android or Apple availability for the other apps.
- Create the household or group. Invite the relevant members and make sure each person is using the intended account or device. Do not assume that installing the app alone subscribes a device to future alarms.
- Add personal schedules first. For each member, enter normal weekdays, weekends and any recurring exceptions. If the app offers a sound selector per member, assign and preview the tone on that person’s device.
- Add shared events separately. Create a group alarm for events that genuinely involve everyone, such as leaving for school. In SynClock, members must accept the alarm before it rings. In Sync Alarm, decide whether the event belongs in group mode or should remain a private personal alarm.
- Apply one-time dates and exceptions. Use calendar-date settings where available for vacations, appointments or exam mornings instead of altering a recurring weekday alarm and forgetting to restore it.
- Complete the synchronization action on every device. For Sync Alarm, open the app or tap the change notification on each device. For any app, verify that the new alarm appears locally rather than relying only on the creator’s screen.
- Run a non-critical test. Set an alarm a few minutes ahead, check the selected tone and confirm that the intended devices respond. A listing describes features; it is not an independent guarantee of delivery, volume or behavior when a phone is muted, offline or restricted by the operating system.
Common household scenarios
Children leave at different times
A family with staggered school departures needs separate wake times and a shared view of the morning plan. An individualized routine such as the one described for FamWake can calculate times around bathroom, breakfast and departure constraints. Keep each child’s sound distinct if the app allows it, so the right person wakes without disturbing everyone else.
Parents share a departure but wake privately
Use personal alarms for each parent’s preferred wake time, then add one group alarm for the final departure. Sync Alarm’s separation between personal and group alarms maps directly to this pattern. Remember that group changes require an action on each device to synchronize.
Rotating shifts and occasional dates
Weekday recurrence is not enough for a schedule that changes every few weeks. Sync Alarm’s calendar-date controls can represent individual shift dates, while SynClock’s date and monthly recurrence options can handle repeated patterns when all participants accept the same event. Confirm that the app’s date model matches the shift calendar before replacing an existing backup alarm.
Pitfalls and fixes
- Assuming “shared” means separate sounds: only FamWake’s descriptions explicitly mention member sound choice. Treat sound behavior as unconfirmed in Sync Alarm, SynClock and Crickets Alarm unless the current listing or in-app control says otherwise.
- Changing a group alarm on one phone and stopping there: Sync Alarm specifically requires each device to open the app or tap the notification. Repeat that action for every member after an edit.
- Using one recurring alarm for exceptions: add a date-specific alarm when the app supports it, rather than permanently changing a weekday schedule.
- Ignoring acceptance requirements: a SynClock group alarm does not ring for a member until that person accepts it.
- Overlooking device limits or subscriptions: Sync Alarm’s listing describes a two-device free plan, with additional devices requiring a purchase or monthly subscription. Crickets Alarm’s U.S. listing shows subscription pricing. Recheck current terms because these can change.
- Treating store copy as reliability testing: the listings are publisher descriptions, not independent tests of delivery, loudness, battery use or operation during connectivity problems. Keep a conventional backup alarm for important departures until the household has verified its own devices.
What to verify before relying on a family alarm
App features, prices, minimum operating systems and device allowances can change between releases. Confirm the current store page for each platform, then answer these questions during setup:
- Can every member have an independent time, or does the app copy one group time to all devices?
- Can each member choose a different sound for the same shared event?
- Are weekday, calendar-date, monthly and one-time schedules available where you need them?
- Must a member accept, open or manually sync an alarm before it appears locally?
- How many devices are included without payment, and what happens when the household exceeds that limit?
- Does the app support the operating-system versions installed on every phone?
The safest conclusion is therefore conditional: family members can use different alarm sounds and schedules in a shared app when the app implements individual profiles. FamWake documents that combination most directly. Sync Alarm documents separate group and personal alarms with weekday and date scheduling, while SynClock and Crickets Alarm document useful group coordination without establishing per-person sound profiles. Select based on the exact controls your household needs, and verify the live store terms before making the app your only morning safeguard.
