Yes—but only within a defined workflow. ChatGPT can organize a trip or dinner plan, search current availability, and, when the right feature and website are available, fill out booking steps. It cannot guarantee that every restaurant, flight site, or appointment system will allow automated booking, and you should expect to review and confirm any action that creates a financial or real-world commitment.
Planning, finding availability, and booking are different jobs
When someone asks whether ChatGPT can “make a reservation,” they may mean three separate stages:

- Searching: checking current information such as restaurant openings, flight choices, or appointment slots.
- Execution: entering details into a provider’s website and submitting a booking, sometimes including payment.
ChatGPT can help with all three in some circumstances, but the boundaries are important. A normal conversation can produce a useful plan without having access to live inventory. Web search can find current pages and local results, yet finding an option is not the same as holding it. A supported booking flow may fill a form, while a sign-in, payment, security check, or final confirmation still has to be completed by you.
There is no published, decision-ready statistic from OpenAI showing a universal success rate for reservation completion. Treat each booking as a site-specific workflow, not as a promise that ChatGPT can purchase every ticket or reserve every table.

Restaurant reservations: the most clearly documented flow
What the feature can search
OpenAI’s restaurant-reservation guidance says ChatGPT can look for restaurants and available times using your location, date, time, party size, and preferences. Depending on the restaurant and location, results may come from OpenTable, Resy, or Yelp. You can select a restaurant or a Reserve option and continue through the provider’s booking process.
The feature is rolling out across ChatGPT plans on mobile, the web, and desktop. The August 10, 2026 release note lists OpenTable as available globally, Resy in the United States, and Yelp in the United States and Canada. The same note excludes ChatGPT Work from this restaurant-search feature. A separate Help Center article describes eligibility for consumer plans. Because the documents describe eligibility at different levels, do not assume that every account, workspace, country, or product surface has the same controls.
What happens after you choose a time
The booking may finish inside ChatGPT or continue on the provider’s service. If an OpenTable or Yelp booking requires a credit card, ChatGPT directs you to OpenTable to complete that step. Resy uses its own account sign-in, so ChatGPT does not fill Resy login fields for you.

With permission, the flow may share your name and email address with the provider and fill visible, empty fields. Review those fields before submitting. Availability can change between the search result and the provider page, so check the restaurant, date, time, party size, seating details, cancellation terms, and any payment requirement on the final screen.
What ChatGPT does not manage afterward
OpenAI states: “ChatGPT does not save, modify, cancel, or display existing reservations.” The provider sends the confirmation email. Keep that message and use the provider’s website, app, or support channel for changes, cancellations, account problems, or a missing confirmation.
Broader website tasks and travel planning
ChatGPT Work’s cloud browser
ChatGPT Work’s cloud browser is documented for supported websites, including sites where you sign in. It can read pages, click controls, enter information into forms, and carry out a sequence of steps. OpenAI gives examples such as checking restaurant availability, finding flights that fit a plan, and preparing a DMV appointment booking for your approval.
This is a conditional capability rather than a universal booking agent. The result depends on whether the website is supported, whether your account can access it, whether the required steps are exposed to the browser, and whether the site permits automated access. A site can work normally in your own browser and still block an automated browser.

For actions that could create a real-world or financial commitment—such as confirming a reservation or paying—the cloud browser is designed to request confirmation first. You should expect to inspect the exact details before allowing the final action. If the site requires a one-time code, a payment credential, a CAPTCHA, or a step that the browser cannot complete, you may need to take over and finish it yourself.
Accordingly, “ChatGPT can help book a flight” means that it may locate and prepare a supported booking workflow. It does not mean that ChatGPT can guarantee purchase of every fare, access every airline site, or accept responsibility for the ticket after purchase.
What ChatGPT can do reliably in the planning stage
- Convert constraints into a structured plan: dates, destination, number of travelers or diners, budget, preferred times, cuisine, dietary needs, accessibility requirements, and atmosphere.
- Compare options and explain trade-offs such as price, travel time, location, cancellation rules, or connection length when those details are available.
- Use web search for current information and approximate location to improve local results. Restaurants are specifically included among the local-result examples in OpenAI’s capability guidance.
- Draft a day-by-day itinerary, a shortlist of restaurants, or a checklist of information you need before booking.
- Set a one-time or recurring scheduled prompt for some accounts, such as a reminder to check availability or revisit a plan.
A reminder is not a reservation. Scheduled tasks can prompt you to act or check the web; they do not themselves hold a table, buy a ticket, or guarantee that inventory remains available.

What it cannot promise
- Universal availability: a provider may have no matching slot, may expose only partial inventory, or may change availability while you are checking.
- Universal automation: websites can block automated browser access, require an interaction the browser cannot perform, or limit access to logged-in users.
- Automatic completion: sign-in, payment, identity checks, provider-specific fields, and final approval can remain your responsibility.
- Post-booking management: for the documented restaurant flow, ChatGPT does not retain an ongoing reservation record and cannot display, modify, or cancel an existing booking.
- Identical access everywhere: capabilities vary by plan, workspace, product surface, country, restaurant, provider, and rollout status.
A safe workflow for using ChatGPT to plan or reserve
- State the complete goal. Include the destination or neighborhood, date, preferred time, party size, budget, cuisine or activity, dietary and accessibility needs, and flexibility. For travel, add departure and arrival airports, baggage needs, stopover limits, and acceptable date ranges.
- Ask for a shortlist or live availability. Tell ChatGPT whether you want ideas, current openings, or a supported booking flow. Ask it to separate confirmed availability from suggestions that still need checking.
- Inspect the provider page. Verify the exact date, local time zone, restaurant or carrier, party size, fare or menu conditions, cancellation policy, taxes or fees shown by the provider, and any minimum spend or card hold.
- Review information sharing. Check which name, email address, phone number, travel details, or account credentials are being entered. Grant access only when you understand the provider receiving the information.
- Pause at the commitment point. Before submitting a booking or payment, confirm the final price, terms, and details. A consequential action should not be approved merely because the earlier search looked correct.
- Save the provider confirmation. Keep the email, confirmation number, calendar entry, and cancellation deadline. The provider—not ChatGPT—is the place to change or cancel the booking.
Prompts that produce better results
Restaurant search
Use a prompt with all decision-critical constraints:
Find a table for four in [neighborhood] on [date] around [time], with [cuisine], a budget of [amount] per person, and [dietary or accessibility requirement]. Show available times and tell me which details I must verify before confirming.
If you want ChatGPT to use the reservation feature, say that explicitly, but still ask it to pause before any final confirmation.
Flight planning
For a broader web workflow, specify the limits and the stopping point:
Find flights for [travelers] from [origin] to [destination] between [dates]. Prefer [nonstop/maximum stops], keep the total below [budget], include baggage rules, compare the options, and pause before making any purchase.

This wording separates research from commitment and makes your approval boundary clear.
Appointment preparation
Provide the office or jurisdiction, service, acceptable dates, required documents, and whether you want only a shortlist or a prepared appointment. If the site requires sensitive identification, enter it yourself when possible and inspect every field before submission.

No reservation option appears
Check whether you are on an eligible consumer plan and supported web, mobile, or desktop surface, and whether the restaurant and country are covered. The feature may not have reached your account or may not be available in ChatGPT Work. You can still ask for search help, then open the provider directly.

The displayed time disappears
Availability is live inventory, not a guarantee. Refresh the provider page, try nearby times or dates, and verify the party size. Do not treat an earlier result as a held reservation unless the provider issued a confirmation.
The browser stops at sign-in, CAPTCHA, or payment
That is an expected boundary for some workflows. Complete the sensitive or blocked step yourself, then recheck every field and the final terms before submitting.
You need to change or cancel a booking
Use the provider’s confirmation email, account page, or support channel. ChatGPT’s documented restaurant feature cannot display, modify, or cancel the existing reservation.

Open the site in your normal browser and continue manually, or ask ChatGPT to prepare a checklist and compare alternatives. A block on automated access does not necessarily mean the site is unavailable to you.
How to decide whether to let ChatGPT proceed
- Let it search first when you want current options but have not chosen a provider.
- Let it prepare a form when the site is supported and you can inspect all entered information.
- Take over manually for passwords, payment credentials, identity documents, CAPTCHA challenges, or any step the site marks as sensitive.
- Require a final pause whenever the action creates a charge, cancellation obligation, appointment, ticket, or other real-world commitment.
- Keep the provider record because ChatGPT is not the system of record for the completed restaurant reservation.
In practical terms, ChatGPT is most useful as a planner, live-information assistant, and conditional form-filling helper. The provider remains the authority for inventory, terms, confirmation, payment, and post-booking support.
