Probably not—not as a mass-market replacement, at least not on the evidence available as of September 2026. Casio’s F-B100W gives the F-91W-inspired design Bluetooth and activity tracking, but it costs substantially more and adds phone and software considerations. It may be a more appealing successor for buyers who want basic tracking in a conventional digital watch; the F-91W remains the simpler choice for everyone who just wants a watch.
What is the Casio F-B100W?
The F-B100W is a new digital watch styled after Casio’s F-91W. It is not simply a reissue: current product coverage reports Bluetooth connectivity and activity tracking, including step counting. That makes it a bridge between a basic digital watch and a fitness band, rather than a full smartwatch. T3’s August 2026 report says the model launched in Japan at ¥8,800 and appeared in the UK at roughly £55.
Those are regional reported price signals, not a universal price or confirmation of availability elsewhere. The coverage establishes Bluetooth and activity tracking, but not the full scope of the connection: it does not establish whether the watch synchronizes time, which phones and operating-system versions it supports, whether an account is needed, or how activity data behaves when the phone is not nearby. Nor should buyers assume the F-91W’s battery type or seven-year life applies to this model.
In other words, the F-B100W’s appeal is not that it turns an old-fashioned watch into a miniature phone. It is that Casio appears to be adding one modern capability—activity tracking—while retaining a retro, button-operated watch format.

Why the F-91W is such a difficult act to follow
The F-91W’s enduring appeal is practical as well as nostalgic. Casio describes a design dating to 1989, with a slim, light resin build and everyday functions that do not require a phone or a charging routine. Its US product information lists a thickness of about 8.5 mm, a weight of about 21 g, and approximately seven years of operation from one CR2016 battery. That combination minimizes ownership friction: no pairing, app, account, software support or regular charging is needed for its core timekeeping functions. The F-B100W adds utility, but also makes the watch’s connected features dependent on more than the watch itself. That is the central trade-off—not simply old technology versus new.

Which one makes more sense for you?
Choose the F-91W for uncomplicated timekeeping
If you want a low-complexity watch for the time, alarm, stopwatch and calendar, the F-91W is the straightforward fit. It does not depend on connected features, and Casio publishes a roughly seven-year battery-life estimate for the cited US model. It is also the more sensible choice when minimizing purchase cost is more important than tracking activity.

Consider the F-B100W for a watch-shaped activity tracker
The F-B100W may suit someone who likes Casio’s retro digital style, wants physical buttons and would like basic step or activity tracking without wearing a conventional smartwatch. It could also appeal to people who dislike the size, charging demands or notification-heavy experience they associate with smartwatches. The value depends on whether its tracking and phone connection work well for your devices and habits; the reported feature set alone does not establish that.

If you want detailed health metrics, sleep tracking, GPS, notifications or a broad app ecosystem, do not treat the F-B100W as a substitute for a device whose capabilities in those areas are established. The available product coverage does not confirm that the F-B100W offers heart-rate monitoring, sleep tracking, GPS, calls, messages, payments, emergency features or installable apps. A dedicated fitness band or smartwatch may offer a broader sensor and software experience, but that comparison depends on the specific alternative and its charging, privacy and app trade-offs.
What you give up when a watch gets connected
Phone and app dependence
Bluetooth-linked features introduce compatibility questions that do not arise with a basic digital watch: phone operating-system support, pairing reliability, data synchronization, account requirements and how long the companion app remains supported. Casio’s existing CASIO WATCHES app listing shows that the company supports connected functions on some models, but it does not by itself confirm F-B100W compatibility or the watch’s specific app requirements.

Battery expectations
Activity tracking and wireless connectivity can affect power needs, so the F-91W’s seven-year figure must not be carried over to the F-B100W. The cited launch coverage does not state the new watch’s battery type or claimed life. Anyone for whom charging frequency or battery replacement is decisive should check the final regional specifications before buying.
Tracking is not a health assessment
A reported step-counting feature does not establish medical-grade monitoring or independent measurement accuracy. Step results can vary with wrist movement and the activity itself—for example, cycling or pushing a stroller may register differently from walking with a free-swinging arm. No independent accuracy result is established here, so the F-B100W is best described as offering basic activity tracking, not as a proven precise health monitor.
Is it really competing to be the world’s best-selling watch?
The F-91W is widely described as the best-selling traditional wristwatch, but the category matters. Casio’s current US F-91W information does not give a verified lifetime unit total. Casio’s watch-history material is relevant to the company’s history, while widely repeated claims of more than 100 million F-91Ws should not be treated as an audited, current total without a clearly documented primary sales figure.

That conventional-watch claim is not directly comparable with claims about Apple Watch or the wearable market. A single conventional watch model’s lifetime sales, a smartwatch product family’s sales, a brand’s sales, and annual shipments are different measures. Apple does not provide a simple public cumulative Apple Watch total, while market trackers such as IDC’s wearable-device data report wearable-market measures rather than a directly comparable lifetime tally for one traditional watch model.
There is also no evidence that the F-B100W has sold at anything like the F-91W’s lifetime scale. T3 reported that an initial Japanese allocation sold out quickly, which indicates launch interest in that market—not sustained global demand, repeat sales or a new sales record. A sellout can reflect a limited first allocation as well as strong demand.

It has a credible product-successor case: it keeps the familiar Casio digital-watch look while adding a function some buyers now expect. That could make it a useful option for people moving away from smartwatches or fitness bands who still want a basic activity metric. Whether it becomes culturally influential is an open question, not something a quick launch sellout can settle.

For the F-B100W to challenge the F-91W commercially, it would need more than launch buzz. It would need broad distribution, a stable and accessible price, reliable long-term support, and a clear reason for ordinary buyers—not only Casio fans—to choose it. Adding features may broaden its appeal among enthusiasts while reducing the simplicity that makes the F-91W work for casual buyers.
Availability: check your market before importing
As reported in August 2026, the F-B100W had a Japanese price of ¥8,800 and a UK price signal of roughly £55. Those reports do not confirm official availability, pricing, warranty or app-region support in other countries, including the United States. Before buying an imported unit, verify that the seller is authorized, the warranty applies locally, the return policy is acceptable, and any required app is available for your phone and region. Scarcity can push reseller prices above the reported market price.
At roughly £55, the watch is no longer competing only with inexpensive digital watches; it also sits near some entry-level bands and discounted smartwatches. Compare the ownership experience you want—not just the feature count. If accurate step tracking, a particular water-resistance rating, battery life or long-term app support is essential, wait until the relevant regional specifications and independent reviews establish those points.
Verdict
The F-B100W is better understood as a connected, activity-tracking alternative for a narrower buyer than as the next mass-market F-91W. The original remains the more rational pick for low-cost, phone-free timekeeping. The new model’s opportunity is to win people who want the F-91W’s visual language and physical-watch feel, with enough tracking to avoid buying a full smartwatch. Whether that blend can endure—and whether it can sell at anything close to the F-91W’s scale—remains unproven.
