Yes. AWS Elemental MediaLive can loop a single supported video file stored in Amazon S3 and send the resulting stream to YouTube using RTMP. To rotate through different files, you can use MediaLive dynamic inputs and a channel schedule to switch between them—but the AWS documentation cited here does not establish that a multi-file schedule will repeat the whole playlist indefinitely.
What MediaLive can do
- Repeat one file: MediaLive accepts S3-backed MP4 and TS file inputs. Its Channels API documentation describes the file source end behavior as “Loop input if it is a file. This allows a file input to be streamed indefinitely.”
- Send a stream toward YouTube: MediaLive supports RTMP output, and AWS’s workflow wizard documentation lists YouTube as a supported destination. You still need to obtain the current ingest information from YouTube Studio.
- Switch among different files: MediaLive can use dynamic file inputs and a channel schedule to switch between S3 files. AWS documents switching, not automatic, indefinite repetition of an entire multi-file playlist.
AWS identifies S3 file inputs as video-on-demand sources rather than live sources. See its documentation on supported input types and protocols and live versus file sources.

Loop one S3 video to YouTube
- Prepare the source file in S3. Use a supported MP4 or TS object. For an MP4 input, AWS gives the URI form as
s3ssl://<bucket>/<path>/<filename>.mp4. AWS notes that MediaLive bucket names cannot use dot notation. See Obtain information for an MP4 input. - Create a MediaLive file input. Configure it to read the S3 object using the appropriate supported file-input setup. The source is a VOD file, not a live feed.
- Set the file end behavior to loop. Configure the input’s source end behavior so the file repeats instead of ending. The MediaLive API describes this behavior as allowing a file input to be streamed indefinitely.
- Configure the channel output for RTMP. Use the current YouTube ingest details shown in YouTube Studio when setting up the destination. AWS confirms support for RTMP output and names YouTube in its workflow wizard, but those AWS pages do not establish YouTube’s current ingest URL, stream-key handling, or account eligibility rules. Do not rely on a copied endpoint or key from an old guide.
- Start the channel and verify the YouTube live preview. Confirm that YouTube receives the feed and that the picture and audio are as expected before treating the stream as live for viewers.
If you want to rotate through several files
Use MediaLive dynamic inputs for the S3 files, then configure the channel schedule to switch between them. AWS documents this method for selecting different MP4 or TS files in S3 or MediaStore. It is a way to move from one file to another, not proof that MediaLive will repeat the complete sequence forever. See Setting up dynamic inputs.

If your requirement is a continuously repeating playlist, verify the schedule behavior you need before relying on it. The cited AWS documentation establishes scheduled switching but does not say that the schedule automatically cycles back to the first file indefinitely.

What to verify before going live
- Source format and location: Confirm that the object is a supported MP4 or TS file in S3 and that the input points to the correct bucket and object path.
- Loop behavior: Confirm that the file input’s end behavior is set to loop, rather than leaving the channel to stop when the file ends.
- YouTube destination details: Use the current stream setup values in YouTube Studio. AWS’s general RTMP and workflow documentation does not supply those live account-specific values.
- Rights and platform rules: Ensure you have the rights to stream the video and any included music, and check YouTube’s current live-stream and content policies. Technical ability to loop a file does not grant rights to rebroadcast it or guarantee that a stream complies with platform policies.
- One file versus a playlist: Treat indefinite repetition of one file and scheduled switching among files as separate requirements.
Common problems and what to check
- The input cannot access the object: Recheck the S3 bucket and object path, the supported file type, and the URI format. For MP4, compare the configured URI with AWS’s
s3ssl://format and confirm the bucket name does not contain periods. - The video ends instead of repeating: Revisit the file input’s source end behavior and confirm it is configured to loop.
- YouTube does not receive the output: Check that the MediaLive output is configured for RTMP and that the destination information matches the current values from YouTube Studio. The cited AWS pages do not establish a universal current ingest URL or stream key.
- A scheduled sequence stops or does not cycle: Confirm the scheduled inputs and switching order. Do not assume a list of scheduled switches loops forever unless that behavior is independently verified for your configuration.
