Possibly, but the available evidence does not establish that most liveness SDKs can be bypassed with an iPhone Live Photo—or explain how the reported bypass or fix worked. The headline makes a claim attributed to Binimise Labs; without the article’s technical details or test artifacts, it is not possible to identify the attack path, the SDKs tested, or whether the fix was independently evaluated. The useful takeaway is narrower: a liveness test against something shown to a camera is not, by itself, evidence that an app resists media injected into its software path.
What the iPhone Live Photo claim does—and doesn’t—establish
The title of Binimise Labs’ article says that “most” liveness detection SDKs can be bypassed with an iPhone Live Photo and that the authors fixed the issue. The accessible article listing identifies the headline and author, but does not provide the technical body needed to verify those claims. In particular, it does not establish:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- What data or action the attacker supplied, or how it entered the app.
- Which SDKs, versions, devices, or configurations were tested.
- Whether the attack used the camera or bypassed the camera path.
- What the fix changed, or how its effectiveness was measured.
That means “most” should be read as the article’s claim, not as a demonstrated industry-wide result. The headline alone cannot show that a particular SDK—or liveness detection generally—has the same weakness.

A presentation attack is presented to the camera for the app to capture. An injection attack supplies media to the software path without relying on the camera to capture it. Those paths pose different questions: can the system distinguish a live person from a presentation at capture time, and can the app detect media that entered its verification flow by another route?

- FEATURE: the tripod phone mount is adjustable by screw mechanism, 360 degree rotating, vertical(portrait mode) and horizontal(landscape mode) or any angle as you need, not necessary to take your cell phone out of a standard tripod or small tripod.
- EASY TO USE: two options for using tripod phone holder: 1. screw it directly to the tripod or selfie stick with pivoting arm, being able to 360 degrees rotating, 2. remove the phone clamp from pivoting arm and then mount on a tripod or monopod.
- ADJUSTABLE WIDTH: 2.2inch-4.1inch(55mm-105mm), attachable to any regular-size smartphone, tripod, selfie stick, monopod or camera; two standard 1/4 x 20mm female thread interfaces meeting your various needs. Very functional and compact.
- MATERIAL: the black part made of sturdy plastic, the female threads inserted are brass, the male screw is steel and soft non-slipping silica gel pads, which protect your cellphone from scratch and hold the phone securely.
- ATTACHABLE TO: most mobile phones, tripods, unipods, selfie sticks, cameras, camcorders, pico projectors, including iPhone 11/11 Pro/11 Pro Max/X/XS/XR/XS Max/8/7/6/6s Plus/SE/5s/5/5c, Samsung Galaxy S10/10+/S9/S9+/S8/S8+/S7/S6/S6 edge, Note10/10+/9/8 and Android phones.
A result covering one path does not answer the other. If a vendor reports a successful presentation-attack test, ask whether media injection was also in scope. Conversely, an injection-resistance claim does not by itself establish how the system performs against presentations to the camera. The reviewed technical explanation makes this distinction; it should not be mistaken for a complete interpretation of a standard.
What would make the Live Photo example meaningful
The phrase “with an iPhone Live Photo” is not enough to classify the attack. If the media was presented to the camera, the test concerns a camera presentation. If it reached the app without being captured through the camera, the test concerns injection. The available description does not say which occurred, so neither mechanism should be assumed.

How to evaluate a liveness SDK’s evidence
Ask for evidence tied to the exact product configuration you plan to deploy. A test result applies to the submitted build and conditions; it should not automatically be generalized to other versions, devices, settings, or attack types.
Request a defined test scope
- Which attack forms were tested, including whether camera presentations and injected media were assessed separately?
- Which app and SDK build, devices, operating-system versions, and settings were included?
- When was the test performed, who performed it, and what conditions or limitations applied?
- What changes to the SDK, app, capture flow, or device support would require reassessment?
Compare security and usability at the deployed threshold
Ask for attack acceptance (APCER) and genuine-user rejection (BPCER) together at the threshold intended for production. A system’s ability to reject attacks cannot be judged in isolation from how often it rejects genuine users; changing the threshold can affect both. Request the results for the relevant attack types and conditions rather than a single headline score.

Distinguish method from evidence
Active checks ask the user to perform an action, which can add friction. Passive checks rely on the captured input and the system’s detection methods. Hardware-assisted approaches depend on device sensors and therefore raise questions about device coverage. These are different implementation choices, not interchangeable proof of resistance to every attack path.
If a vendor cites ISO/IEC 30107-3 or an iBeta “Level,” ask for the exact standard edition or lab documentation, along with the tested build and scope. A vendor-authored technical explanation reviewed for this topic describes ISO/IEC 30107-3 as a testing and reporting framework, not a build recipe, and says iBeta “Level” labels are lab schemes rather than levels defined by that standard. Treat those descriptions as claims to verify with the standard and lab, not as a substitute for the test report.

What a credible fix would need to show
The available account does not specify Binimise Labs’ fix, so it cannot support a claim about what change worked. For a remediation claim to be useful, it should identify the affected software path, the change made, and the evidence that the relevant attack no longer succeeds. That evidence should state the tested app and SDK builds, device and settings coverage, attack type, test date, and remaining limitations.
A fix demonstrated against a camera presentation should not be presented as proof against injection unless that route was tested too. Likewise, a result for one submitted build does not establish the behavior of later releases without reassessment after material changes.

Questions to ask before relying on a liveness claim
- What exact attack path was tested? Ask whether the input reached the app through its camera capture flow or another software path.
- What was the test boundary? Get the SDK and app versions, device set, settings, attack types, and test conditions.
- What were the paired error results? Request APCER and BPCER at the production threshold, for the relevant test scope.
- Who conducted the evaluation? Ask for the lab or evaluator, date, report or confirmation letter, and any limits on what it covers.
- What changed after the test? Confirm whether later changes to the SDK, app, capture flow, or supported devices have been reassessed.
These questions separate a specific, scoped test result from a broad security promise. Until the original technical account or test artifacts are available, the iPhone Live Photo headline remains an unverified report—not evidence that most SDKs share one bypass or that a particular fix has been proven.
