Yes, a school can attempt to broadcast recorded classes continuously on YouTube using an encoder-based stream, but the official YouTube pages reviewed do not expressly approve a 24/7 prerecorded loop or promise that it will remain uninterrupted. Before announcing one, verify the channel and account setup, test the chosen streaming method, secure rights for all material, and assess student privacy and audience settings.
What YouTube does—and does not—establish about 24/7 streaming
YouTube documents mobile, webcam and encoder methods for starting a livestream. An encoder workflow can send prerecorded video; it does not inherently require a camera. That makes it the relevant method to investigate for recorded classes played on a continuous schedule.
However, YouTube’s published method and eligibility pages explain how to start a livestream, not that one prerecorded stream may run continuously for 24 hours a day. The reviewed official pages neither establish a blanket prohibition nor guarantee uninterrupted service, a platform-wide maximum duration, or a built-in continuous-loop feature. Treat 24/7 availability as an operational goal to test, not a platform guarantee.
A YouTube Help page about webcam streams says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That statement is specific to the webcam guidance; it does not establish a 12-hour maximum for encoder streams, or prove what happens to every stream that runs longer.

Check eligibility and the school’s account arrangement first
- Channel eligibility: YouTube Help says the channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days.
- Streamer age: YouTube’s current Help page says a person streaming must be at least 16 years old. Make sure the account and person operating the stream meet the current requirement.
- Managed K–12 accounts: YouTube’s administrator guidance says live-stream hosting and viewing are disabled on K–12 Google Workspace for Education accounts. It also says YouTube is off by default for under-18 K–12 users and parental consent is needed if student access is enabled. These controls concern managed school accounts; check the school’s actual account type and administrator settings rather than assuming they apply to every public channel.
- Access plan: Decide whether lessons are intended for public viewers or a defined school audience, and test access using the actual student account arrangement before sharing a schedule.
Choose a delivery method for prerecorded lessons
Encoder: the relevant route for a recorded-video loop
YouTube lists encoder streaming as a method and describes encoder streams as using streaming software. For prerecorded playback, use an encoder workflow capable of sending the prepared video as a live input and, if continuous repetition is required, configure the playback source to loop. The camera is not a requirement of this approach.
Webcam: for a computer-and-camera session
YouTube’s webcam method requires a computer with a webcam. It is intended for a webcam-led broadcast, not necessary for sending an existing class recording through an encoder. The webcam help page’s under-12-hour automatic-archive statement applies to that webcam guidance only.

Mobile: a separate live method
YouTube also documents mobile streaming. The sources reviewed do not describe it as a way to continuously play a prerecorded class playlist, so do not assume it provides the looping setup a school needs.
Plan and test the encoder setup before publishing a schedule
- Confirm the channel can go live. Verify the channel, check for a live-stream restriction in the preceding 90 days, and confirm the age and account requirements.
- Prepare the recordings. Make a playlist or a single prepared video, and decide which lessons should repeat and in what order. Review the entire sequence for rights, privacy and suitability before it is sent to a public audience.
- Open YouTube’s live control workflow and create the stream. Select the encoder-based method in YouTube’s current live-stream interface. Interface labels and controls can change, so follow the current prompts shown for the school’s account.
- Connect an encoder to the stream. Use the stream details and stream key supplied by YouTube in the encoder. Treat the key as a credential: keep it out of public documents and rotate or replace it if it is exposed.
- Set the video source and continuity behavior. Choose the prepared recording or playlist as the encoder input, and enable looping in the playback/encoder setup if a repeat is intended. The YouTube pages reviewed do not specify encoder bitrate, resolution, keyframe interval, or a universal configuration; use the encoder’s current guidance and test the selected output rather than assuming one set of values fits every file or connection.
- Run a supervised test. Check that video and audio are present, the intended sequence repeats, viewers can access the stream, and the encoder and connection remain stable. Test recovery after a deliberate disconnect in a controlled session before relying on it for a school timetable.
- Publish only after reviewing the audience and rights. Set the correct audience designation, check the access path from a student account, and make sure the school is comfortable with the public or restricted distribution actually configured.
A successful test demonstrates that the school’s chosen arrangement worked under those test conditions. It does not establish a YouTube uptime commitment or guarantee uninterrupted 24/7 delivery. Confirm current limits and operating practices with YouTube’s current interface and Help guidance before promising continuous availability.

Clear the rights in every part of each class recording
YouTube’s livestream terms place responsibility on the content provider to have the necessary rights for worldwide use of live content, including music rights, and to comply with applicable laws and regulations. A school should review more than the teacher’s spoken lesson. Check slides, photographs, diagrams, textbook excerpts, music, video clips, screen-shared material and any other third-party content in the recording.
YouTube says it scans livestreams for third-party matches. A match may cause a placeholder to replace the stream; YouTube may warn the creator to stop using the material, and a continuing match may interrupt or terminate the stream. A licence alone may not prevent interruption: YouTube says the rights owner may need to add the channel to its Content ID allowlist.

India’s Copyright Act includes broadcast reproduction rights and limited educational exceptions for certain reproduction by a teacher or pupil in the course of instruction, and certain educational-institution performances for a defined audience. Those provisions do not, by themselves, settle whether a public, continuous YouTube broadcast of recorded classes qualifies. Do not assume that calling a stream educational makes every item in it available for public streaming; have the school assess the rights and distribution model for its specific content.

Made for kids is an audience classification, not a synonym for education
YouTube requires creators to designate whether videos and livestreams are made for kids. The designation should reflect the content and intended audience; the fact that a lesson is educational does not answer the classification by itself. YouTube says made-for-kids content has feature restrictions, including live chat, comments and personalized advertising. Consider those effects when deciding how students and families will interact with the stream.

Review student exposure and Indian data obligations
Before streaming or publishing recordings, identify whether students can be recognized by face, voice, name, work or other personal information. Decide whether that exposure is necessary, who can view it, and what consent or other safeguards are required for the school’s particular use.
A Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology release says the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and the Rules, 2025 were notified on 13 November 2025. It describes verifiable parental consent before processing a child’s personal data and notes exemptions for educational institutions. An exemption should not be treated as a blanket answer: the school needs to assess its role, the processing involved, whether an exemption applies and any consent duties before publishing identifiable student information.
Common reasons a planned continuous stream may fail
- The channel cannot start a livestream: Verify the channel and check whether it has a live-stream restriction in the preceding 90 days. Confirm that the operator meets YouTube’s current minimum age requirement.
- Students using school accounts cannot watch or host: Ask the Google Workspace for Education administrator to check the school’s K–12 YouTube settings and the under-18 access configuration. Test with the account type students will actually use.
- The encoder is not sending the intended class: Check that the encoder is connected to the correct YouTube stream details and key, and that its selected input is the prepared recording or playlist rather than an inactive source.
- The sequence stops instead of repeating: Check the playback source or encoder’s loop setting. YouTube’s method documentation does not establish a universal loop control for every encoder.
- The stream is interrupted after a content match: Review the flagged material and the rights in it. If the school has a licence, contact the rights owner about Content ID allowlisting; a licence by itself may not prevent automated interruption.
- The school expected a guaranteed 24-hour run: The reviewed YouTube pages do not promise uninterrupted service or establish a universal maximum stream duration. Test the actual setup, plan monitoring and recovery, and avoid advertising a guarantee YouTube does not make.
Or let it run in the cloud
For a prerecorded YouTube stream, StreamNeo is a cloud option: upload the recording or build a playlist, add the YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops uploaded videos from the cloud, so a school computer and home connection do not have to stay on. It supports uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. It does not stream from a camera, and the school still needs to clear content rights, set the audience appropriately and protect student data.
The first day is free with no card. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. Start the free day on StreamNeo.
