Live Redirect

Can a YouTube Livestream Switch Playlists Automatically?

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

No—not through a documented YouTube creator setting. YouTube’s autoplay and queue features control what a viewer watches, while Live Redirect sends viewers elsewhere after a stream ends. To change media during one continuous broadcast, the content must be switched in the live feed sent by an encoder or production setup.

What YouTube’s playlist-related features actually do

Feature What it does Does it switch content in an active livestream?
Autoplay For viewers, plays another related video after the current video ends. Viewers can turn it on or off on supported device types. YouTube Help: autoplay No. It is viewer playback, not a control for the creator’s live feed.
Queue Lets a viewer arrange videos to watch next. On desktop, a queue can be saved to a playlist, but it does not persist after the browser closes. YouTube Help: queue No. The queue is for the viewer, not the live program.
Playlist An ordered collection of videos for ordinary viewing. The reviewed YouTube playlist and queue guidance does not describe feeding playlist items into an active livestream. No documented creator-side automatic playlist switching.
Live Redirect After a livestream ends, sends its audience to a Premiere or another live stream. YouTube recommends preparing the Premiere first and advises allowing about two seconds for viewers’ screens to reload. YouTube Help: Live Redirect No. It is an end-of-stream handoff, not an in-stream switch.
Scheduled-stream trailer Shows a trailer before a scheduled livestream starts. YouTube Help: manage live stream settings No. It is pre-stream, not automatic content switching once live.

So if you mean “Will YouTube play the next item in my playlist inside the broadcast?”, the documented answer is no. If you mean “Can viewers watch videos one after another?” autoplay or a queue may help, but those controls do not alter what the creator is broadcasting.

How to make one continuous livestream change content

Build the sequence in a production workflow that sends a live feed to YouTube. The encoder or production tool—not a YouTube playlist setting—determines how media and scenes are arranged and whether transitions can be automated. YouTube’s encoder setup requires the YouTube Live server URL and stream key to be entered in the encoder. YouTube Help: encoder setup

  1. Choose a suitable encoder or production setup. Confirm in its current documentation that it supports the exact media sequence and timed or automated switching you need. The YouTube documentation cited here does not establish the capabilities of a particular software package.
  2. Build and check the sequence in that tool. Arrange the media and transitions as required by the production workflow; do not assume a YouTube playlist will supply the live feed.
  3. Connect the encoder to YouTube. Use YouTube’s Live server URL and stream key in the encoder’s connection settings. Keep the stream key private.
  4. Test before going public. YouTube recommends testing before starting a livestream and monitoring stream health during the event. YouTube Help: test and monitor an encoder stream

For a sequence that must switch at precise times, verify the tool’s automation behavior and test the transitions in a private or otherwise appropriate test workflow before relying on it in a public broadcast.

  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Choose the workflow by when the change should happen

  • Before the livestream: A scheduled-stream trailer can appear before the live broadcast starts; it does not change the live program after it begins.
  • During one continuous livestream: Use a production setup that sends the changing media as the live feed. YouTube’s documented creator controls do not provide an automatic playlist switch within that stream.
  • After the livestream ends: Use Live Redirect for a handoff to a prepared Premiere or another live stream.
  • While watching ordinary videos: Use viewer autoplay or a queue, understanding that neither controls the creator’s broadcast.

Or let it run in the cloud

If your goal is to keep uploaded videos playing on a YouTube channel without leaving a computer running at home, StreamNeo loops uploaded videos or playlists from the cloud. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It is for uploaded video playback, not a camera-based live feed.
