Viewers should not expect to watch videos in a public gaming rerun stream just because the creator queued them from a private YouTube playlist. YouTube says only the playlist owner can view a private playlist, and private videos are limited to their owner and people specifically selected by them. However, YouTube’s general help pages do not establish whether every authenticated rerun tool can play a private playlist on its owner’s behalf; that depends on the tool and account setup.
What private playlist visibility means for a public rerun
A playlist’s privacy setting controls who can access the playlist, but each video also has its own visibility setting. A private playlist is not publicly shareable or discoverable through search, related videos, or recommendations. YouTube’s playlist guidance says, “If it’s private, only you can view the playlist.” YouTube explains playlist privacy settings here.

Private videos are separately restricted to their owner and people the owner selects. A private video cannot be added to a public playlist, and setting a playlist to public or unlisted does not make a private video viewable to everyone. YouTube’s video privacy guidance describes these access rules.

The cited general YouTube guidance establishes the audience access limits, but not the behavior of every creator-side bot or playback workflow. Do not assume private videos will be usable in your specific setup without checking that tool’s documentation or configuration.

Private, unlisted, and public: choose based on audience access
| Visibility | Who can watch | Sharing and discovery |
|---|---|---|
| Private | The owner and people specifically selected by the owner | Not publicly shareable by URL or discoverable through YouTube search, related videos, or recommendations |
| Unlisted | Anyone with the link; the viewer does not need a Google Account | Link holders can share it onward; it generally does not appear in search or recommendations |
| Public | Anyone | Can be shared and may appear in YouTube discovery surfaces |
YouTube documents video visibility and playlist visibility separately. Unlisted is useful when link holders should be able to watch without making the material broadly discoverable. Public is appropriate when general access and discovery are intended. Neither setting grants permission to rebroadcast the content.
Visibility does not grant rebroadcast rights
Making a video public or unlisted solves an access issue, not a licensing issue. YouTube’s livestream terms put responsibility on the provider to have the rights needed for worldwide exploitation of livestream content on Google services, including music licensing rights. This applies to game footage, another creator’s videos, music, and other material included in the stream. Read YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions.

- HDR10 Support: Capture brilliant HDR content with tone mapping on Windows

- Analog Audio In: Capture in-game chat or commentary with 3.5mm input
Owning the playlist, possessing a URL, or being able to play a video through a rerun tool does not by itself establish permission to broadcast it. Check the rights for all included material before you start a stream.
Check these settings before the rerun
- Confirm playlist visibility. In YouTube’s playlist privacy controls, decide whether the list should remain private, be link-accessible as unlisted, or be public. See YouTube’s playlist privacy instructions.
- Check each video’s visibility separately. If viewers must watch the source video themselves, private videos will not work for a general audience. Use unlisted for link-based access or public for broad access, subject to your rights to share the material. See YouTube’s video privacy instructions.
- Verify the rerun tool’s behavior. Look for documentation covering private playlist access and the account authorization it requires. If documentation is absent, test the exact playlist and account configuration rather than assuming that a tool’s ability to sign in guarantees playback.
- Review content rights and platform rules. Confirm you can rebroadcast the game footage, music, and any other material, and ensure the stream and playlist comply with YouTube policies.
Rules still apply to streams, archives, and playlists
YouTube says livestreams must comply with its Community Guidelines and Terms of Service; it may age-restrict or remove streams that violate its guidelines. Account eligibility and streaming methods are separate from whether private playlist items are accessible. See YouTube’s live streaming guidance and its Community Guidelines strike basics.
