Yes. A YouTube channel can keep a continuous livestream active while broadcasting a separate scheduled event, provided it stays within YouTube’s concurrent-stream limits. Scheduling creates the event page; at the event time, connect an encoder to that event’s stream URL and key, check its preview, and start the event. You can leave the 24/7 stream running.
What YouTube allows
YouTube Help states that a channel may have up to 10 active streams, with no more than 3 active streams per stream key. Both limits apply at once. A continuous stream and one scheduled event fit within those published ceilings if other active streams on the channel and key do not use the available capacity. See YouTube’s live-streaming basics.

Scheduling and broadcasting are separate actions: creating an upcoming event does not itself start the event’s broadcast. You still need to send the event’s feed from an encoder and start the scheduled event in YouTube Studio.
How to schedule and start the separate event
- Schedule it: In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and select Manage to schedule the event. YouTube creates an upcoming event page that you can share; viewers may also be able to opt in to reminders.
- Configure its encoder: Use the scheduled event’s stream URL and stream key in your encoder. A stream key is a credential that lets YouTube accept the encoder’s feed. Follow YouTube’s encoder setup guide and stream settings guidance.
- Check and start the event: At the scheduled time, start sending the event feed. Confirm that its preview appears in Live Control Room, then start the event. The continuous stream can remain active if both concurrency limits are respected.
Treat the scheduled event and the 24/7 program as separate stream configurations. YouTube’s setup guidance does not say to reuse one encoder session or one stream key for two simultaneous programs; check the active-stream and per-key counts for your setup rather than assuming a shared configuration will work.

Check eligibility and capacity before the event
- The channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the past 90 days. YouTube says a person must be at least 16 to livestream.
- Count active streams across the whole channel and on the specific key: the published limits are 10 per channel and 3 per key.
- Start the encoder ahead of time, inspect the Live Control Room preview, confirm the event is accessible, and monitor audio and video. YouTube recommends these checks in its live-streaming tips.
Choose an encoder setup that fits the production
YouTube supports software encoders. Its guidance recommends professional-grade hardware encoders for higher-production events, but dedicated hardware is not a general requirement for scheduling a livestream. For a simple setup, software may be sufficient; for a higher-production or unattended broadcast, hardware can be an option. Whichever you use, ensure it can send and monitor each feed you intend to run simultaneously, and keep each program within YouTube’s channel and key limits. YouTube’s guidance does not rank specific encoder models.
Plan separately for the 24/7 stream’s archive
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That guidance does not promise that a single stream running continuously for 24 hours or longer will be saved as one complete video. If you need an archive, plan around the under-12-hour threshold rather than assuming the entire continuous broadcast will become one recording. See YouTube’s encoder guide.

Troubleshoot common problems
- The scheduled event has no preview: Confirm the encoder is sending to the scheduled event’s stream URL and key, not the continuous stream’s configuration. Check the encoder connection and wait for the feed to appear in Live Control Room before starting the event.
- YouTube will not accept another feed: Check whether the channel already has 10 active streams or the key already has 3. End streams that are no longer needed, or configure the event as its own intended stream, then retry.
- The event page exists but viewers cannot watch a live event: Scheduling alone does not broadcast. Start the encoder feed, verify the preview, and start the event in Live Control Room.
- The stream is not available to the channel: Check channel verification and whether a live-streaming restriction occurred in the past 90 days. Also ensure the person operating the broadcast meets YouTube’s stated minimum age of 16.
- The 24/7 broadcast did not produce one complete archive: YouTube’s automatic archive guidance applies to streams under 12 hours; do not rely on it to create one complete recording of a longer continuous stream.
