How automatic video changes work in a live stream
YouTube Live receives a feed from an encoder. The encoder—or a cloud service doing that job—plays the prerecorded videos in sequence and sends the resulting feed to YouTube. To YouTube, that incoming feed is the live stream; the video changes are handled by the tool supplying it.
YouTube’s encoder setup guide describes connecting an encoder with the YouTube Live server URL and stream key, and lists Gyre as a cloud tool for continuous streaming of prerecorded videos. That listing indicates a stated product fit, not a guarantee of current feature availability or pricing.
The YouTube Live Streaming API documentation also describes a channel broadcasting a continuous 24/7 feed while creating a separate broadcast for an interview using part of that feed. A continuous feed and a separately represented broadcast can therefore coexist in YouTube’s API model.

Autoplay and playlist loop are different features
YouTube’s viewer Autoplay setting starts another related video after the current one ends, while playlist looping repeats a viewer’s playlist. Those controls affect what an individual viewer watches; they do not assemble or rotate the video feed a creator sends to YouTube Live. You need an encoder or streaming service that handles prerecorded-video playback for the live broadcast. See YouTube’s guidance on Autoplay and looping videos or playlists.
Choose how to keep the feed running
Run an encoder yourself
With a local encoder, your own computer and software operate the feed continuously. Choose software that supports the rotation or playlist behavior you need, and plan for the computer and its internet connection to remain available while the broadcast runs. YouTube’s encoder guide explains the connection process; the specific playlist controls depend on the encoder you select.

Use a cloud streaming service
A cloud service can run prerecorded playback and deliver the feed without relying on a computer at home staying on. Confirm that the particular service supports the video rotation you need, how it handles interruptions, and what recording or archive options it provides. YouTube lists Gyre for the 24/7 prerecorded-video use case, but that listing alone does not establish comparative reliability or cost.
Set up the YouTube Live connection
- Check channel eligibility. YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. Review YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility and policy guidance before scheduling the stream.
- Choose an encoder or cloud service. Make sure it can play the prerecorded videos in the order or rotation you want and can keep a continuous feed running.
- Get the YouTube Live connection details. In YouTube’s live-stream setup, obtain the server URL and stream key for the broadcast. Treat the key as a credential: do not publish it or share it with anyone who should not control the stream.
- Enter the connection details in your encoder or service. Follow that tool’s instructions to connect to YouTube Live, select the video sequence, and start sending the feed.
- Confirm the live output. Check YouTube’s live control room and the public viewing page to verify that the broadcast is receiving video and that transitions between prerecorded clips work as intended.
- Keep content compliant. Live content must follow YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. Confirm you have the rights needed for every video and other material you stream.
Plan for archives and recordings
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. A stream that exceeds 12 hours may not be captured at all, so do not rely on YouTube to preserve a complete 24/7 broadcast. If you need a full record, arrange separate recording or archive handling and verify how your encoder or service manages it. See YouTube’s archive guidance.
