Yes, indirectly. Wave Browser says revenue from search engines and other partnerships helps fund 4ocean cleanup work. That does not mean each search removes a fixed amount of trash: Wave has not published a contribution rate per search, user, or browsing session. Its latest surfaced tracker, dated September 29, 2026, reports 133,402 pounds removed cumulatively through the initiative, with work spanning open ocean, rivers, and coastlines.
How Wave Browser says browsing supports cleanup
Wave describes its business model as similar to other browsers: it earns revenue through search engines and partnerships, then says that partnership revenue supports its cleanup mission. Yahoo powers searches by default, according to Wave’s homepage, and users can change the search engine in settings. Wave names 4ocean as its cleanup partner and says the funding supports crews and operational resources, including equipment, vessels, and materials processing. Wave’s homepage and its 4ocean partnership explanation describe this company-funded mechanism.
That is different from a direct donation charged to a user or a promise that an individual search removes a particular quantity. Wave’s reviewed materials do not disclose what share of revenue goes to cleanup or a fixed amount contributed per search, user, or session.
What Wave’s latest impact tracker reports
In its September 29, 2026 impact tracker, Wave reports that 4ocean crews removed 8,108 pounds of plastic and trash in Indonesia during September. The same tracker puts the initiative’s cumulative removal total at 133,402 pounds as of that report.

| Wave-reported measure | Amount and period |
|---|---|
| September cleanup in Indonesia | 8,108 pounds during September 2026 |
| Cumulative removal through the initiative | 133,402 pounds as reported September 29, 2026 |
| 2026 recovery across environments | 63,373 pounds as of September 2026 |
| Open ocean portion of the 2026 total | 4,859 pounds |
| River portion of the 2026 total | 43,647 pounds |
| Coastline portion of the 2026 total | 14,867 pounds |
These figures are Wave’s own tracker totals, not figures independently audited in the reviewed materials. The earlier February 27, 2026 report recorded 7,502 pounds removed during that month, 15 cleanup events, and 85,040 pounds cumulatively at that point. That cumulative figure is historical; the later September tracker reports a higher total. The February report named Indonesia and Guatemala as focus locations.
“Ocean cleanup” includes more than open water
Wave’s eco-mission language can sound as if all recovered material comes from the ocean itself. Its September 2026 tracker separates recovery into open ocean, rivers, and coastlines. Rivers account for the largest share of the 2026 breakdown: 43,647 of 63,373 pounds, compared with 4,859 pounds from open ocean and 14,867 pounds from coastlines. The more precise description is that the initiative reports removing plastic and trash across aquatic and coastal environments, not solely from open ocean waters.

Wave describes a goal of 300,000 pounds of trash—or, in some materials, plastic and trash—by 2028. The September tracker frames the commitment period as May 2025 to May 2028. Because Wave’s wording varies, the target should not be narrowed to plastic alone.
What the reported totals do—and do not—establish
The tracker gives readers a dated total, locations, and environment categories, but the reviewed pages do not identify an independent auditor for Wave-specific cleanup weights. Treat the amounts as Wave-reported figures, rather than independently audited impact measurements. Wave’s use of the word “verified” in describing its reporting does not, on the pages reviewed, establish independent review of those weights.

Wave also says its download and search totals are internally reported and not independently verified. Those product metrics are separate from cleanup weights. The company’s AppEsteem certification claim concerns software practices such as disclosure, user consent, installation behavior, data-handling disclosures, and uninstallability; it does not validate environmental impact figures.

Wave presents itself as a Chromium-based browser with an ad blocker, AI assistant, tab organization, and Memory Saver. It says the default search engine can be changed, and that its Windows and macOS releases have active AppEsteem certification. Its site also lists mobile platforms, but that does not establish that every feature is available on every platform. These are company-described product details, not comparative test results.

If environmental impact is your reason for considering a browser, the useful questions are whether its contribution mechanism and rate are disclosed, how its cleanup numbers are checked, and whether reported recovery is from open ocean, rivers, or coastlines. Also weigh the browser features and privacy or security disclosures against your own needs. The available information does not establish how Wave compares with another browser on performance, energy use, privacy, or security.
