ESPN’s current guidance explains how to watch through its website and app, which devices it supports, and how some location restrictions apply. The available evidence does not establish which VPN providers currently work with ESPN or ESPN+.
What you need before choosing a VPN
ESPN says streaming content is available in the Watch tab on ESPN.com and in the ESPN app. To access all ESPN streaming content, you must have a current eligible subscription through an affiliate partner. A VPN does not provide that subscription.

ESPN’s partner plan information describes ESPN Select as including ESPN+ content, such as college football, NHL, tennis, soccer, mixed martial arts, college sports, ESPN Films, and originals. ESPN says most content can stream on up to three devices at once. Plan names and included programming can change, so check the current offer before subscribing.
Will a VPN let you watch ESPN or ESPN+ outside the US?
The available ESPN guidance does not establish that a VPN will make ESPN+ available outside the United States. ESPN’s location and rights rules vary by service and content; a VPN may also prevent the service from determining where you are.

For example, ESPN Netherlands says ESPN.nl video is available only to users within the EU and that some VPN applications make it impossible to determine a viewer’s location. Its support article says ESPN cannot support VPN use for that reason. That is guidance for ESPN Netherlands and its regional service, not a universal statement of US ESPN+ policy.
Can a VPN bypass ESPN sports blackouts?
Do not count on it. ESPN says MLB.TV on ESPN is available only in the US and is subject to MLB blackout restrictions. That rule is specific to MLB.TV on ESPN; it should not be generalized to every ESPN stream, event, or subscription. ESPN’s stated availability and blackout rules still matter when deciding whether a particular game is accessible.

Which devices support ESPN streaming?
ESPN lists its app for mobile devices, web browsers, and TV-connected devices. Supported TV-connected options include Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, Chromecast, Roku, PlayStation, Xbox, Android TV, and several smart-TV platforms. Check ESPN’s current supported-device list for the latest compatibility details.
An Amazon Fire TV streaming stick is one way to watch on a television if you need compatible hardware. ESPN’s device list does not establish that a particular VPN app works on a specific Fire TV model, or that using one will resolve a location restriction.

Why might ESPN be blocked when you use a VPN?
Streaming services may be unable to determine a viewer’s location when a VPN is active. ESPN Netherlands explicitly identifies that issue for its own video service. If ESPN will not play while a VPN is enabled, the VPN connection may be interfering with location checks; this does not prove that a different VPN will work or that the stream is available in your region.
For ordinary troubleshooting, turn off the VPN and retry ESPN, then check that your subscription and device are eligible and that the event is available where you are. If the issue persists, consult the relevant ESPN support page rather than assuming the stream can be unlocked through a VPN.

How to evaluate VPN claims about ESPN
No current provider ranking, tested unblock results, streaming speeds, or ESPN compatibility claims are established here. Treat a provider’s marketing claim as unverified unless it is backed by recent evidence for your country, ESPN service, device, and the specific content you want to watch.
If you compare providers, look for current evidence about:
Best Value
- Next-Gen Gigabit Wi-Fi 6 Speeds: 2402 Mbps on 5 GHz and 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz bands ensure smoother streaming and faster downloads; support VPN server and VPN client¹
- A More Responsive Experience: Enjoy smooth gaming, video streaming, and live feeds simultaneously. OFDMA makes your Wi-Fi stronger by allowing multiple clients to share one band at the same time, cutting latency and jitter.²
- Expanded Wi-Fi Coverage: 4 high-gain external antennas and Beamforming technology combine to extend strong, reliable, Wi-Fi throughout your home.
- Improved Battery Life: Target Wake Time helps your devices to communicate efficiently while consuming less power.
- Improved Cooling Design: No heat ups, no throttles. A larger heat sink and redefined case design cools the WiFi 6 system and enables your network to stay at top speeds in more versatile environments.
- Whether access to ESPN or ESPN+ was verified in your target country and for the service you use.
- Live-stream stability and speed under load, rather than generic speed claims.
- Apps for your devices and the practical setup required for a television or router.
- Privacy and logging disclosures, device limits, price, and refund terms.
Even a verified connection in one setting would not guarantee access to every ESPN stream, remove subscription requirements, or override a blackout. Provider-specific recommendations should also be checked for current terms and any commercial relationship before relying on them.
