Not necessarily. YouTube says enabling live streaming for the first time can take up to 24 hours. After access is enabled, a stream can go live instantly—but a new channel must first meet YouTube’s eligibility requirements, and a 24-hour stream may not be saved as a complete replay.
What “immediately” means on a new channel
Creating a channel does not guarantee you can start a livestream right away. YouTube’s encoder setup guidance says first-time live-stream activation may take up to 24 hours; once it is enabled, you can start a stream instantly. That is an activation window, not a promise that every stream will start without setup or network issues. YouTube’s encoder instructions explain the timing.

Check channel eligibility first
Before planning a continuous broadcast, confirm that your channel meets YouTube’s current requirements. YouTube’s live-streaming guidance says creators need a verified channel, no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days, and must be at least 16 years old.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteOnce live streaming is available, configure the stream in YouTube Studio and connect an encoder using the stream key. Keep that key private: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your stream. YouTube supports software encoders and standalone hardware encoders; neither category is an eligibility requirement. Its guidance recommends professional-grade hardware for higher-production events, but a dedicated device is optional.

Set up a prerecorded stream and check the practical limits
- Enable live streaming and verify access. In YouTube Studio, start the live-stream setup and complete any channel verification or activation prompts. If this is your first livestream, allow up to 24 hours for access to activate.
- Create the livestream in YouTube Studio. Choose an encoder workflow, then copy the stream key into the encoder you are using. Follow YouTube’s on-screen setup for the selected stream; interface labels can change.
- Load your prerecorded program in the encoder. Configure the software or hardware to send the video as a live feed. YouTube documents encoder support, but its help pages do not certify a specific 24/7 prerecorded configuration or promise uninterrupted playback.
- Check upload capacity before going live. YouTube advises that the total stream bitrate must stay within available upload bandwidth and recommends leaving a 20% margin. An unstable connection or network disruption can interrupt the broadcast. YouTube’s streaming tips cover bandwidth planning and encoder guidance.
- Start the encoder and verify the feed. Confirm in YouTube Studio that the incoming stream is healthy and that the intended prerecorded content is playing before relying on it for an extended broadcast.
The official guidance cited here does not establish a universal bitrate, resolution, frame rate, or keyframe interval for every 24/7 prerecorded setup. Use the encoder’s settings that match your source and YouTube’s current stream recommendations rather than assuming one preset is right for all connections and video files.
Do not assume YouTube will archive the full 24 hours
A continuous broadcast and a complete saved replay are separate concerns. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, but warns that a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. If keeping the complete program matters, retain a local recording rather than relying on YouTube’s automatic archive. See YouTube’s archive guidance.

Respect rights and YouTube policies
You are responsible for having the necessary rights to everything in the livestream, including music, and for complying with YouTube’s Community Guidelines and applicable laws. A prerecorded video is still live content for this purpose: broadcasting it does not remove copyright or policy obligations. YouTube states that live content must comply with its Community Guidelines in its livestream terms and conditions.

| Approach | What it does | What to weigh |
|---|---|---|
| Software encoder | A computer program sends the encoded feed to YouTube. | YouTube supports software encoders. Consider whether the computer, power, internet connection, and playback setup can remain available for the intended run; YouTube does not certify a particular application for uninterrupted 24/7 operation. |
| Hardware encoder | A standalone device sends the feed to YouTube. | YouTube supports this category and recommends professional-grade hardware for higher-production events. It is optional, not a requirement for channel eligibility. |
| Cloud service | A hosted service sends uploaded prerecorded video to YouTube without keeping your own computer running. | StreamNeo is one option for YouTube prerecorded streams; it runs from the cloud and is described below. Choose based on your operational needs, storage, stream quality, and cost. |
For any approach, consider continuous-operation capability, upload reliability, a backup or local recording plan, and your production requirements. YouTube’s published guidance does not guarantee that any particular 24/7 setup will remain uninterrupted.
