What the compatibility claim does—and does not—mean
Mellif’s UK collection lists specific products as compatible with Makita 18V batteries, including a multitool, buffer polisher, mini air pump and 100W hot glue gun. Its FAQ also names Makita among the brands whose 18V batteries some Mellif products can use. These are Mellif’s claims, not independent safety tests; verify the exact product listing because models and availability can change. Mellif’s Makita-compatible collection and Mellif’s FAQ do not establish compatibility for every tool it sells.

Makita’s compatibility guidance describes its own LXT platform. For example, the BL1830B battery page says that battery is compatible only with Makita 18V tools bearing the Star Symbol and/or a yellow battery receiver. What could cause a problem?
Over-discharge
A battery can be harmed if it is discharged below a safe level. The relevant question is whether the particular Mellif tool has suitable low-voltage protection when used with the specific Makita battery. The general compatibility claim does not answer that. Mellif’s listing for its own 18V 4.0Ah replacement battery claims automatic shutoff below 14.4V, but that is a specification for that Mellif battery—not proof that every Mellif tool cuts off at that threshold with a Makita pack. Fit and electrical design
A battery that physically attaches is not, by that fact alone, confirmed safe for a particular tool. The cited product information does not document the circuitry of every Mellif model or test battery temperatures, damage rates, or tool failures for this pairing. Do not modify contacts or force a pack that does not fit properly.
Charging with the wrong charger
Keep charging separate from tool compatibility. Mellif says the charger on its cited battery listing works only with Mellif 18V batteries and cannot charge original Makita batteries. Use only a charger explicitly rated for the battery in question; do not assume cross-brand chargers are interchangeable.

How Makita’s warning applies
Makita warns that non-genuine or altered batteries used in Makita products can defeat electronic communication among the battery, charger and tool. It lists possible battery rupture, fire damage, unknown performance, loss of Makita tool and charger warranty, and loss of UL/CSA standards approval. That warning concerns non-genuine or altered packs in Makita’s ecosystem; it is not a test showing that a genuine, unmodified Makita battery will damage a Mellif tool. Makita battery guidance

- Identify the exact Mellif model. Confirm its own product page or manual explicitly lists Makita 18V battery compatibility; do not infer it from another Mellif product.
- Confirm the pack. Check that it is the battery type the tool listing specifies. If relying on Makita’s LXT guidance, note that Makita’s stated compatibility applies within its LXT platform and its own qualifying tools.
- Look for model-specific cutoff guidance. Check the Mellif manual for low-voltage or over-discharge protection, or ask Mellif about the exact tool and battery model. If this is not documented, do not run the tool until the pack stops as a way of testing it.
- Check charging and warranty terms separately. Confirm the charger is rated for the battery and review whether the manufacturers’ warranty and safety terms cover this cross-brand use.
What can be concluded without the model number?
The available company information supports a limited conclusion: Mellif advertises Makita 18V compatibility for certain products, but it does not establish that every pairing is protected against over-discharge or independently validated.
