Yes, sometimes—but the answer depends on whether the stream is still live or has ended. YouTube says Content ID claims on an archived livestream are made after the broadcast ends. A rights holder’s policy may monetize the archive instead of blocking it, but that does not guarantee an active 24/7 broadcast will remain online: YouTube scans live streams and may warn, interrupt, or terminate one when it detects third-party content.
What can happen to a 24/7 stream?
“24/7 stream” can mean two different things for copyright enforcement: a broadcast that is still running, or a recording left on the channel after that broadcast ends. YouTube treats these moments differently. The duration of a broadcast does not create a special right to keep it available.

| Situation | What YouTube says may happen |
|---|---|
| Broadcast is live | YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. It may warn the broadcaster, interrupt the stream, or terminate it if the matched content continues. A later archive claim is a separate process. YouTube Help: Copyright issues with live streams |
| Broadcast has ended and is archived | If the broadcaster archives the livestream, Content ID claims are made after it ends. The rights holder’s policy can monetize, track, or block the claimed video, subject to the relevant settings and territory. YouTube Help: Learn about copyright claims |
Under YouTube’s general claim guidance, a video subject to a monetize or track policy can remain viewable. Policies may differ by geography, and a rights holder’s actual rights, asset settings, and compliance with YouTube policy affect what happens. A claimant cannot be assumed to have the same options in every territory or for every use.
Can the claimant choose monetization instead of a takedown?
A Content ID claimant may have a policy that monetizes a matched video rather than blocking it. That is a platform claim outcome, not a promise that the content is licensed or that a live broadcast will be left uninterrupted. YouTube describes Content ID claims as actions generated when an uploaded video matches material in its system; the claim can affect the video without ordinarily affecting the channel or account. For a current live broadcast, YouTube’s live-stream guidance warns that detected third-party content can prompt warnings and interruption or termination. A licence alone may not prevent that interruption if the rights holder has not allowlisted the channel. YouTube advises licensed creators to ask the owner to allowlist the channel. Real-time Content ID matching is a separate, restricted feature
YouTube makes live Content ID matching available to certain Content Manager partners, not as a general option for every claimant. The partner must have a proven record operating Content ID, eligible time-sensitive content, and a high probability of unauthorized restreaming. The content must be exclusively owned worldwide and contain no third-party material.

This feature is not the same as an ordinary archived-video claim. It first warns the streamer; continued matching may replace the video with a static image and no sound, then terminate the stream. YouTube says the live-matching process creates no claims, and matched copies cannot be tracked or monetized as ordinary copies. The configured match policy can be monetize or block, but warnings and possible termination still apply. Use Content ID matching on live streams

A Content ID claim and a formal copyright removal request are different processes. A claim is YouTube’s platform matching action and may lead to monetization, tracking, or blocking under the applicable policy. A copyright removal request is a separate process; if YouTube accepts it and removes the video, a copyright strike is applied. What is a claim? · Learn about copyright claims

| Outcome or process | Typical effect described by YouTube |
|---|---|
| Content ID claim | May monetize, track, or block the claimed video, depending on policy and geography; ordinarily does not itself affect the channel or account. |
| Accepted copyright removal request | The video is removed and a copyright strike is applied. |
| Live-stream detection or matching | May trigger warnings, interruption, replacement with a static image and no sound, or termination, depending on the detection process. |
These are possible platform outcomes, not interchangeable labels. A monetization policy on an archive should not be read as immunity from live-stream enforcement or a formal removal request.

YouTube’s dispute guidance says that if a creator disputes a claim within five days, ads continue and revenue is held from the first day the claim was placed. If the creator disputes later, YouTube begins holding revenue from the dispute date. Once the dispute is resolved, the revenue is paid to the appropriate party. YouTube gives analogous timing rules for appeals. Monetization during copyright claim disputes

What rights should a 24/7 broadcaster have?
YouTube’s livestream terms say the provider represents and warrants that it has all necessary rights for content used live and in archives on Google services, including applicable music licensing rights. Livestream terms and conditions
- Confirm that you have rights for every video, recording, composition, performance, and other material in the stream, including rights relevant to the archive.
- If you rely on a third-party licence, ask the rights holder to allowlist your channel where applicable; YouTube says a licence may not stop a live interruption if the channel is not allowlisted.
- Do not treat a Content ID monetize policy as permission to use the work or as protection against a removal request.
- Check the policy and its territorial scope rather than assuming the same result applies everywhere.
