Your channel must still qualify for and enable memberships. YouTube’s guidance does not specifically confirm whether every continuous 24/7 stream is eligible, so check your channel’s status in YouTube Studio.
Why disabling live chat does not automatically disable memberships
Channel memberships are recurring monthly payments in exchange for creator-provided perks. Super Chat and Super Stickers, by contrast, are separate paid features that depend on live chat. Turning chat off removes chat-based interactions, but YouTube’s published membership guidance does not say that it prevents viewers from joining a channel.
YouTube lists memberships as a monetization feature for both horizontal live streams and vertical live feeds, subject to eligibility. What disabling chat changes for members
Members can receive benefits that do not depend on participating in a stream’s live chat, depending on what the creator offers and YouTube’s rules. Examples include members-only posts, videos or Shorts, early access, badges, emoji in comments, and a recognition shelf.

Some interactions do depend on chat. Super Chats and Super Stickers are chat-based paid features, and member milestone chats and new-member chat announcements also use live chat. A stream without chat therefore loses those live-chat interactions; it does not follow that every membership benefit disappears. YouTube explains membership levels and perks in its guide to creating or managing membership levels and perks and its membership benefits guide.
Check your channel’s eligibility and setup
- Check the Earn tab in YouTube Studio. Confirm that memberships are available for your channel and review any channel-specific requirements or actions shown there.
- Meet the applicable fan-funding requirements. YouTube’s published YPP guidance describes an early monetization tier that can include memberships at 500 subscribers, three public uploads in the previous 90 days, and either 3,000 qualified public watch hours in the previous 365 days or 3 million qualified Shorts views in the previous 90 days. A higher tier also lists memberships at 1,000 subscribers and either 4,000 qualified public watch hours in the previous 365 days or 10 million qualified Shorts views in the previous 90 days. These thresholds do not guarantee acceptance or feature availability; check the current YPP overview and eligibility guidance.
- Check location, policy, and feature availability. You must meet the applicable requirements, be in a location where the feature is available, and follow YouTube’s policies. Accept the applicable Commerce Product Module and enable memberships through YouTube Studio. YouTube may review a channel after it is accepted into the Partner Program, so availability may not be immediate. See YouTube’s channel-membership setup guidance.
- Check live-stream access separately. YouTube says live-streaming access requires channel verification and no live-streaming restrictions in the prior 90 days. Those are live-streaming access requirements, distinct from membership eligibility. Its live-stream restrictions guidance also notes that chat may be disabled on some streams featuring 13–15 year olds who are not visibly accompanied by an adult; that example does not establish a general rule that chat status determines membership eligibility.
YPP criteria and feature availability can change. Use YouTube Studio and the current Help Center guidance to confirm what applies to your channel.

What is—and is not—settled for a 24/7 stream
YouTube’s public guidance supports the conclusion that disabled chat alone is not identified as a membership disqualifier, and it lists memberships for livestream formats. The guidance cited here does not specifically guarantee membership eligibility for a stream that runs continuously 24/7. Treat the format question as unconfirmed rather than assuming either that round-the-clock duration blocks memberships or that it guarantees them. Your channel’s Earn tab and applicable stream policies are the practical checks.
