The evidence available through Cameco’s second-quarter report does not support a simple “sell” or “load up” verdict—and it does not independently verify the claim that the shares fell 24% over three months. Cameco’s 2026 outlook for uranium prices and revenue improved, but quarterly results were lower than a year earlier, largely because of Westinghouse, while production, sourcing and delivery risks remain. Whether the shares are attractive depends in part on the current valuation, which the company disclosures cited here do not establish.
Is Cameco stock really down 24% in three months?
The 24% figure cannot be confirmed from the available evidence: it contains no dated three-month price series, start and end dates, exchange, currency or adjusted-price method. Cameco trades as CCO on the TSX and CCJ on the NYSE, so a meaningful check should specify the listing and currency and compare closing prices on defined dates using a consistent adjusted or unadjusted method. The company’s July 2026 results do not verify a subsequent share-price move or explain its cause.
For the company fundamentals below, the latest evidence available is Cameco’s second-quarter 2026 release and report, for the quarter ended June 30 and released July 31, 2026. Company financial amounts are in Canadian dollars unless stated otherwise. Cameco’s Q2 2026 release and its Q2 report provide the operating and financial detail.
What the latest results say—and what they do not
Cameco’s reported results were mixed. Consolidated earnings and adjusted EBITDA were lower than the year-earlier comparison, which the company attributed primarily to lower Westinghouse equity earnings. The uranium segment also posted lower Q2 earnings measures than in Q2 2025, although Cameco pointed to normal delivery variation and lower planned sales deliveries in 2026, alongside improving realized prices from market-related contracts.

| Issuer-reported measure | Q2 2026 | First half of 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Net earnings | C$25 million | C$156 million |
| Adjusted net earnings | C$77 million | C$281 million |
| Adjusted EBITDA | C$391 million | C$899 million |
Adjusted net earnings and adjusted EBITDA are non-IFRS measures. The figures above are for Q2 and the six months ended June 30, 2026, respectively; they should not be treated as interchangeable with cash flow or as a forecast. Cameco’s release sets out the reported and adjusted measures.
Uranium operations: price, volume and timing all matter
For Q2 2026, Cameco reported uranium earnings before taxes of C$170 million and adjusted EBITDA of C$252 million, compared with C$281 million and C$352 million, respectively, in Q2 2025. It attributed the comparison to normal variation in delivery timing and lower planned 2026 sales deliveries; the company also said average realized prices from market-related contracts were improving. A weaker quarterly comparison therefore does not by itself establish that uranium economics have deteriorated, just as a higher realized-price outlook does not guarantee a particular profit.

Cameco’s Q2 report recorded 7.1 million pounds of uranium deliveries. It also reported Q2 production attributable to Cameco of 3.9 million pounds, purchases of 2.8 million pounds at an average C$91.40 per pound (US$66.60), and uranium inventory of 8.7 million pounds at an average cost of C$58.05 per pound at June 30, 2026. Those are period-specific company figures; they do not alone determine future margins, since sales timing, contract terms, production and purchases also matter. The Q2 report details the figures.
Westinghouse explains much of the consolidated comparison
Cameco reported a C$10 million net loss attributable to it from Westinghouse in Q2 2026, versus C$126 million in earnings in Q2 2025; the earlier period included a contribution from the Dukovany project. Cameco’s share of Westinghouse adjusted EBITDA was C$163 million in Q2 2026, compared with C$352 million a year earlier. These figures help explain why consolidated comparisons can move differently from uranium-segment performance.

Westinghouse may add value through its operating business and potential reactor work, but future new-build expectations are not assured earnings. Cameco’s 2025 annual-report outlook depended in part on definitive agreements and US government funding or support for reactor deployments, leaving project timing, funding and execution as relevant uncertainties. Cameco’s 2025 annual report describes those dependencies.
What Cameco expects for 2026
In its July 2026 outlook, Cameco raised its projected consolidated revenue and average realized uranium price ranges while holding its uranium production guidance. The outlook is management’s forward-looking estimate, not a result already achieved.

|---|---|
| Uranium production attributable to Cameco | 19.5–21.5 million pounds |
| Consolidated revenue | C$3.32–3.57 billion |
| Uranium revenue | C$2.70–2.91 billion |

The revenue, realized-price, unit-cost and exchange-rate outlooks are from Cameco’s July 2026 MD&A; production guidance is from its Q2 report. The company said the production range was unchanged despite temporary disruptions at Key Lake and McArthur River and, later, Cigar Lake. It also identified the need to source and deliver required material and achieve production plans as dependencies for its outlook. See the Q2 2026 MD&A and Q2 report.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How the uranium market backdrop affects the case
Cameco said long-term uranium prices strengthened in the first half of 2026 and contracting activity increased as customers focused on security of supply. That is management’s description, not an independent uranium-market price series. The company reported contracts for average annual deliveries exceeding 28 million pounds over the next five years, with commitments above average in 2026–28 and below average in 2029–30. It expected to add further volumes using market-related pricing.

Contract coverage can provide visibility, but it does not make spot prices a direct or immediate proxy for Cameco’s realized price or earnings. Contract price mechanisms, delivery schedules, purchase commitments and the timing of production all affect the translation from market conditions to financial results. Cameco’s 2025 annual report discusses uranium price sensitivity and the effects of its contract portfolio and purchase terms.
What to weigh before buying, holding or selling
The company disclosures do not establish a current fair value, target price, analyst consensus or peer valuation. A share-price decline alone cannot show that a stock is cheap: the investor must compare the price with a reasoned view of future earnings or cash flow and the risks to those estimates. The same assumptions and investment horizon should be used when considering whether to add, hold or reduce a position.
Questions for a potential buyer
- Does the price you would pay make sense against a range of earnings or cash-flow outcomes, rather than only Cameco’s most optimistic guidance?
- Can you tolerate the possibility that production disruptions, sourcing costs or delivery timing delay the benefit of higher market-related prices?
- How much of your investment case depends on uranium-market strength versus Westinghouse earnings or reactor projects?
Questions for a current shareholder
- Has your original investment case changed, or is the concern primarily a short-term share-price move whose magnitude and dates you have not yet verified?
- Is the position size still appropriate given commodity-linked volatility, your diversification and when you may need the money?
- Would you make the same hold-or-sell choice using an updated valuation and operating assumptions, rather than anchoring on your purchase price?
Risks to include in either decision
- Production and sourcing: mine, mill, transport, labor or supply disruptions can affect output, deliveries and costs. Management’s production guidance is forward-looking.
- Contract and commodity exposure: contract mix and purchase terms mean uranium-market changes do not flow one-for-one or immediately into results.
- Westinghouse execution: project timing, contracts and funding or support arrangements can affect the contribution from reactor work.
- Foreign exchange and listing currency: financial results are generally reported in Canadian dollars, while investor returns on TSX-listed CCO or NYSE-listed CCJ also depend on the listing currency and exchange rates.
Liquidity is a cushion, not a buy signal
At June 30, 2026, Cameco reported C$1.1 billion in cash, C$1.0 billion in total debt and an undrawn C$1.0 billion revolving credit facility. Those reported balances provide context for liquidity, but they do not settle whether the shares are attractively valued or remove the operating and project risks described above. Cameco’s Q2 release reports the balances.
