The Cambridge Audio Melomania A100 SE is a modest refresh of the feature-rich A100, not a wholesale redesign. Its main additions are Dolby Audio spatial sound, a blue finish and revised sound processing. Whether it is worth buying over the original depends chiefly on the current price gap and how much you value spatial audio.
What changes with the A100 SE?
Coverage from T3 describes the SE as an incremental revision, with a new Qualcomm chipset and tuning aimed at bass, vocal clarity and richer mids. What Hi-Fi? identifies Dolby Audio spatial sound, accessed through the Melomania Connect app, and a blue finish as headline additions. The Dolby mode is intended for movies, music and games.

The SE retains much of the A100’s feature set, according to launch coverage: 10mm neodymium drivers, Class A/B amplification, adaptive hybrid active noise cancellation (ANC), transparency mode and a six-microphone array. Reported wireless features include Bluetooth 5.4, Snapdragon Sound, LDAC and aptX Lossless. Cambridge Audio’s official product page documents those core hardware and connectivity features for the original A100; it is not an official confirmation of every SE specification.

TechRadar’s review describes an open, spacious presentation with detail, a controlled soundstage and generally balanced tonality. The reviewer also found that Dolby Audio added a greater sense of space. These are one publication’s listening impressions, not laboratory measurements or a guarantee of how the earbuds will sound to every listener.

- 10mm deep bass drivers
- aptX Lossless
- Up to 39 hours battery
- Adaptive Active Noise Cancelling
- Wireless Charging
The same review notes slightly lumpy rhythmic expression and touch controls that were less reliable than using the app. If you frequently adjust playback from the earbuds themselves, that control caveat is worth weighing alongside the new audio mode.
What are the battery and durability claims?
Launch coverage reports up to 39 hours of total playback with the charging case. What Hi-Fi? specifies that this maximum is with ANC off, so it should not be treated as a typical runtime with noise cancellation enabled. The reported IPX5 rating indicates water-jet resistance, not protection against submersion.

Cambridge Audio’s official A100 page says the predecessor’s battery is not user-replaceable. That is a point to check against the SE’s own official product information rather than assume the two models are identical in every respect.

| Melomania A100 SE launch price (TechRadar, 2026) | £129 | Not stated | $149 | AU$249 |
| Original Melomania A100 launch price (What Hi-Fi?, 2025) | £119 | €139 | Not stated | Not stated |
The original A100’s reported 2025 UK and EU launch prices were lower than the SE’s reported launch prices. That comparison alone does not establish which is the better buy now: check current prices for both models in your region.
Should you choose the SE or the original A100?
- Choose the SE if Dolby Audio spatial sound is a feature you expect to use, or you prefer its blue finish and want the updated tuning.
- Consider the A100 if it is meaningfully cheaper where you shop and its existing features meet your needs. The reported core hardware and connectivity carry over, so the SE’s appeal rests largely on its additions rather than a complete redesign.
- Check your playback setup. LDAC and aptX Lossless support may matter if your device and listening services can use them; codec support alone does not guarantee a particular sound-quality improvement.
- Factor in how you listen. The 39-hour maximum is reported with ANC off, and TechRadar’s review raises a practical concern about touch-control reliability.
What is confirmed about the SE?
The available reporting supports the launch details and hands-on impressions, but Cambridge Audio’s official page cited for the product documents the original A100, not a definitive A100 SE specification listing. For a purchase, verify the SE’s current specifications, regional availability and price with Cambridge Audio or a retailer before relying on details that may have changed.
