It changes the weapon’s appearance and may start with a curated attachment set, but the attachments you actually equip determine the resulting stats and behavior. Weapon variants share progression, while blueprint styling may not appear on every replacement part.
That distinction matters whenever a blueprint feels stronger out of the box, when a swapped attachment does not visibly change the model, or when you move between Multiplayer and Battle Royale. The reliable comparison is not “blueprint versus gun” as if they were separate weapons; it is the same weapon identity with different presentation and, sometimes, a different starting build.

Blueprint and base weapon: the quick comparison
| Question | Blueprint | Base weapon |
|---|---|---|
| What is it? | A themed variant of the same underlying weapon. | The standard version of that weapon. |
| Visual identity | Distinct camo; Epic and Legendary versions can include dynamic camos, death effects and other visual treatments. | Standard appearance unless you apply separate cosmetic customization. |
| Starting attachments | Epic blueprints are documented with four pre-configured attachments; Legendary blueprints with five. | No blueprint-specific preset; you build the setup from available attachments. |
| Can attachments be changed? | Yes, through Gunsmith. | Yes, through Gunsmith. |
| What controls performance? | The attachments you choose, including their trade-offs. | The attachments you choose, including their trade-offs. |
| Progression | Shared with the base weapon and other variants. | Shared with owned variants of the same weapon. |
| Permanent blueprint-only stat bonus | Not described in Activision’s explanation. | Not applicable. |
| Where the comparison applies most directly | Persistent Multiplayer loadouts and Gunsmith builds. | Persistent Multiplayer loadouts; Battle Royale also uses base-weapon ground loot rules. |
The words “uncommon,” “rare,” “epic” and “legendary” describe variants within the same weapon family. Epic and Legendary variants are the Blueprint weapons most commonly discussed, but their rarity does not create a second leveling tree. The weapon name underneath the design is the important identity for progression and Gunsmith.
What a blueprint actually is
Call of Duty: Mobile treats weapon variants as versions of one underlying weapon. Activision’s Gunsmith explanation, published August 11, 2020, describes uncommon, rare, epic and legendary variants as part of the same base weapon. That means the blueprint label does not create a second leveling track, a different weapon family or a separate set of statistics that must be developed from zero.

Epic and Legendary variants are the Blueprint weapons most players mean when they discuss blueprints. They combine a named visual design with a preselected loadout. The underlying identity remains the same: a blueprint for a particular assault rifle, submachine gun, sniper rifle or other weapon is still that weapon for progression and Gunsmith purposes.
The practical distinction is therefore between presentation and starting configuration, not between two unrelated weapons. If you prefer the blueprint’s look, you can keep it while changing the build. If you prefer a plain base weapon, you can use the same weapon family and eventually assemble comparable attachment choices as they become available.
This also explains why switching variants does not reset the weapon. Activision’s James Mattone wrote on August 11, 2020 that variants are “all part of the same base weapon and thus share the same progression.” A weapon level belongs to that shared identity, rather than being permanently tied to one painted model.
What changes when you equip a blueprint
Appearance and effects
A blueprint supplies a distinct camo. Depending on its rarity and design, it can also add dynamic camouflage, a death effect or other visual elements that are not part of the ordinary base model. These effects are cosmetic presentation: they change what you see when the weapon is equipped or used, not the weapon’s progression identity.
Cosmetic customization is separate from functional Gunsmith parts. Activision lists camo, charm, sticker and reticle as cosmetic options, while optic, laser, muzzle, barrel, underbarrel, ammunition, rear grip, stock and perk are attachment categories that can alter weapon behavior. Keeping those two groups separate prevents a visual effect from being mistaken for a performance modifier.
A death effect or animated finish can make a weapon feel more distinctive in a match, but it is not evidence of extra damage, faster aiming or greater range. Those outcomes must come from the actual weapon and its selected attachments.
A curated starting setup
Blueprints can arrive with attachments already selected. Activision documents four pre-configured attachments for Epic blueprints and five for Legendary blueprints. These are a ready-made starting configuration and a preview of the parts that can be obtained as the weapon is leveled; they are not an additional class of attachment that exists only on the blueprint.

That first impression should not be treated as proof that the blueprint itself has a hidden multiplier. Change the parts and you change the build being tested.
The preset is also not a promise that every one of those parts suits every situation. A setup that favors range may feel slower, while one that favors mobility may give up recoil control or ammunition capacity. Read the attachment descriptions and compare the complete combination rather than judging a blueprint from its rarity color or name.

Can you change attachments on a blueprint?
Yes. Activision states that players can swap blueprint attachments in Gunsmith. The replacement parts function normally, so you can tune the weapon for recoil control, mobility, range, ammunition capacity, aiming speed or another priority instead of keeping the factory-style preset.
Multiplayer editing path
The exact menu wording can move with seasonal interface updates, but the workflow is the Multiplayer loadout and Gunsmith flow:
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →- Open Multiplayer and enter your Loadout.
- Select the primary or secondary weapon slot containing the blueprint or base weapon.
- Open Gunsmith for that weapon.
- Choose an attachment category and replace, remove or add a part within the allowed build.
- Save or equip the edited configuration, then check the displayed weapon statistics before entering a match.
Activision Support describes Multiplayer loadouts as allowing players to edit primary and secondary weapons, optics, attachments, perks and equipment. In other words, a blueprint is not locked to the display build shown when you first acquire it. Gunsmith is the place to make the practical comparison with the base version.
As the weapon reaches higher levels, more attachments become obtainable. The blueprint’s preset does not bypass the normal need to develop the weapon’s available options; it simply gives you a configured starting point. If a desired barrel, magazine or perk is unavailable, that is an unlock or weapon-level issue, not proof that the blueprint cannot be customized.
Why a changed part may still look unchanged
Some blueprints do not visually show every attachment change. A replacement sight, barrel or other part can be active mechanically even when the model continues to carry much of the blueprint’s original styling. Activision’s warning is explicit: you can swap attachments “to your heart’s content,” but some blueprints may not visually show the change. The selected attachments still determine the weapon’s stats and behavior.
Consequently, judge a modification using the Gunsmith statistics, firing behavior and attachment description—not only the silhouette or color of the weapon in your hands. A part can be working even when its blueprint treatment remains visible. This is especially important when comparing screenshots or inspecting a weapon in a pre-match lobby, where the cosmetic shell may conceal the functional change.
Which stats and trade-offs apply?
The resulting weapon is the sum of the parts you selected. The blueprint name does not override the normal benefits and penalties of those parts. A larger magazine, for example, can provide more ammunition while reducing movement speed. A bright laser can improve hip-fire accuracy while making your position easier to reveal. Those are attachment trade-offs, not permanent properties granted by the blueprint label.
That principle answers the most common “pay-to-win” test: compare equivalent attachment builds. If the blueprint is using a useful preset and the base weapon is empty or configured differently, the blueprint can perform better in that immediate comparison. If both versions use the same functional parts, the documented mechanics do not establish a separate blueprint performance tier.
Functional attachment categories
- Optic: changes the sight picture used for aiming.
- Laser: can influence hip-fire performance and may expose the user visually.
- Muzzle: modifies muzzle-related behavior according to the selected part.
- Barrel: can affect range, handling or other weapon characteristics.
- Underbarrel: provides another route for handling or recoil-oriented tuning.
- Ammunition: changes magazine or ammunition characteristics and can impose mobility or handling costs.
- Rear grip: tunes handling-related behavior.
- Stock: changes the weapon’s handling profile.
- Perk: adds the effect associated with the selected weapon perk.
Activision lists nine Gunsmith attachment categories and says up to five unique attachments can be equipped at one time. The existence of nine categories does not mean every build can use one item from all nine simultaneously; the five-attachment limit controls the final combination. A blueprint showing four or five pre-configured parts is therefore presenting a legal starting build, not granting extra slots beyond the normal limit.

How to compare a blueprint with the base weapon fairly
- Write down the blueprint’s pre-configured parts.
- Compare those parts with the base weapon using the same attachment set, where available.
- Read each part’s stated advantages and penalties rather than comparing only the headline weapon bars.
- Test the edited setup in the mode you actually play, because a mobility-focused build and a range-focused build solve different problems.
- Check whether a visual mismatch is masking a functional change before concluding that an attachment failed to equip.
If two versions use the same functional attachments, any remaining difference established by the documented mechanics is visual presentation, not a separate blueprint performance tier. The fair test is therefore same weapon, same parts, same mode and the same play situation.
What carries over between a blueprint and the base weapon?
Shared weapon identity
The blueprint and base version are variants of the same weapon. Unlocks, attachment availability and weapon-level progress belong to that weapon identity rather than to an isolated blueprint track.
Shared progression
Activision states that the base weapon becomes the highest level of any owned variant. You therefore do not need to level each visual version independently. Progress made while using one variant contributes to the shared weapon progression, and the highest level reached by an owned variant represents the base weapon’s level.
This is useful when you alternate between a standard model and a themed one. You can change the appearance without starting the weapon-development process over, and you can return to the blueprint after experimenting with the base version without losing the progress already earned.
Attachment functionality
When you replace a blueprint attachment, the new part’s effects apply to the weapon. Recoil, ammunition, mobility, aiming and other behavior follow the selected build. Switching from a blueprint to the plain base model does not erase the underlying weapon’s level or convert the weapon into a different progression path.
What does not automatically carry over
| Item | What to expect |
|---|---|
| Blueprint styling on every part | Not guaranteed. A replacement part may work while the blueprint’s visual treatment remains partially visible or fails to appear on that part. |
| A permanent blueprint-only stat boost | Not established by Activision’s explanation. Documented performance changes come from the selected attachments and their trade-offs. |
| The exact preset | Changing attachments replaces the curated configuration. The blueprint remains available as a visual variant, but your active build becomes the one you selected. |
| A universal purchase value | There is no single documented price or acquisition route that defines blueprint mechanics. Paid offers, events and other routes affect how a blueprint is obtained, not how its equipped attachments function. |
Are blueprints pay-to-win or just skins?
Neither description is complete on its own. A blueprint is more than a bare skin because it can arrive with a curated set of functional attachments. Those attachments can make the weapon immediately usable in a particular configuration, especially before you have assembled your preferred setup.
However, the documented mechanics do not describe a permanent stat multiplier attached to the blueprint name. The same weapon’s behavior is governed by the attachments equipped, and weapon variants share progression. A blueprint can therefore provide a convenient preset and distinctive cosmetics without becoming a permanently superior version of the base gun.
Whether a particular blueprint is obtained through a paid offer, event or another route is separate from the mechanical question. Acquisition method does not change the rule that attachment effects, rather than the word “blueprint,” determine the resulting performance. To evaluate a purchase or reward, inspect the included parts and ask whether you could reproduce the same functional build on the base weapon after unlocking those parts. Do not infer a guaranteed competitive advantage from rarity, animated effects or a higher visual tier alone.
Multiplayer and Battle Royale are different contexts
Multiplayer Gunsmith
The blueprint explanation is centered on Multiplayer loadouts. In that context, you choose primary and secondary weapons, optics, attachments, perks and equipment, then edit the weapon through Gunsmith. The blueprint/base comparison applies directly here because you are selecting a persistent loadout configuration.

Battle Royale ground loot
Battle Royale uses a separate acquisition rule. In the September 22, 2021 Season 8 update, Activision said players would find base weapons with no attachments and then upgrade them with attachments of varying rarity. That statement describes what appears as ground loot during a Battle Royale match. It should not be interpreted as evidence that Multiplayer blueprints are separate weapons or that a blueprint’s visual variant changes the Battle Royale loot system.
If a weapon behaves differently between the two modes, first check whether you are dealing with a persistent Multiplayer Gunsmith build or a Battle Royale weapon found during the match. The mode-specific rules determine how the weapon enters your hands. A ground-loot base weapon with no attachments is not the same test case as a fully configured Multiplayer blueprint.

“I changed the barrel, but the gun still looks the same.”
That can be expected. Some blueprints preserve their visual treatment when an attachment is replaced. Verify the selected part and the displayed statistics; do not use the unchanged model as evidence that the swap failed.
“The blueprint felt stronger than my base weapon.”
Compare the attachment lists. The blueprint may have started with a useful combination, while the base weapon was tested with a different or empty configuration. Match the functional parts before attributing the difference to the blueprint itself.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
“Do I have to level the blueprint separately?”
No. Variants share progression, and Activision says the base weapon takes the highest level reached by any owned variant.
“Can I keep the blueprint look but use my own build?”
Yes. Edit the weapon in Gunsmith and replace the preset parts. The exact amount of visual styling that remains depends on the blueprint; some replacement parts will not display a matching blueprint treatment.
“Why is the Battle Royale weapon missing attachments?”
Season 8’s Battle Royale rule placed base weapons without attachments on the ground, with attachments added and upgraded during the match. That is a mode rule, not a failure to apply a Multiplayer blueprint.
“Does an Epic blueprint get more attachment slots?”
No extra slot is documented. Epic blueprints start with four pre-configured attachments and Legendary blueprints with five, while Gunsmith allows up to five unique attachments equipped at one time. The rarity changes the preset and presentation, not the normal five-attachment limit.

Best Value
“Is every visual effect a stat effect?”
No. Camo, dynamic visuals, death effects, charms, stickers and reticles are cosmetic categories. Functional categories such as optic, laser, muzzle, barrel, underbarrel, ammunition, rear grip, stock and perk are the parts that alter the build’s behavior.
“Can I tell whether a replacement attachment is active just by looking?”
Not always. Activision specifically notes that some blueprints may not visually show an attachment change. Use the selected-part listing, Gunsmith statistics and in-match behavior together.
Bottom line
Use a blueprint when you want its appearance, effects or ready-made attachment combination. Use the base weapon when you prefer a standard look or want to build from scratch. In both cases, the durable mechanical facts are the same: the variants share the weapon’s identity and progression, Gunsmith lets you change the attachments, and the chosen attachments—not a hidden blueprint multiplier—control the resulting stats and behavior.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a COD Mobile blueprint and the base weapon?
A blueprint is a themed variant of the same underlying weapon. It adds a visual design and may include a curated starting build, while the base weapon uses the standard appearance and a build you assemble yourself.
Do blueprint stats carry over to the base gun?
There is no separate permanent blueprint stat bonus described by Activision. Performance comes from the attachments equipped. Weapon level and progression are shared across variants of the same base weapon.
Can I change attachments on a blueprint?
Yes. Open the weapon in Multiplayer Gunsmith and replace, remove or add parts within the normal build rules. The replacement attachment’s effects apply even if the blueprint’s visual treatment does not visibly change.
How many attachments do Epic and Legendary blueprints start with?
Activision documents four pre-configured attachments for Epic blueprints and five for Legendary blueprints. Gunsmith still limits a finished build to up to five unique attachments equipped at one time.

Why does a changed attachment sometimes look unchanged?
Some blueprints preserve their original visual treatment when parts are swapped. Check Gunsmith’s selected attachment and statistics; the functional change can be active even when the model still looks mostly the same.
Why do Battle Royale weapons appear without attachments?
Activision’s September 22, 2021 Season 8 rule placed base weapons without attachments on the ground. Players then add attachments of varying rarity during the match. That is separate from persistent Multiplayer blueprint loadouts.
