The 2026 Call of Duty League (CDL) season uses a repeating cycle: teams play online qualifying matches, earn seeding for a LAN Major, collect CDL Points from their results, and repeat that process across four Majors before the July postseason. Twelve teams compete on Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. Postseason seeding comes from the season standings, while each match is a best-of-seven played in a fixed mode order.
The 2026 CDL format at a glance
| Part of the season | What happens | Teams or matches involved |
|---|---|---|
| Regular season and qualifying stages | Online matches determine seeding for each Major and add CDL Points to the standings. | All 12 CDL teams |
| Major tournaments | Each cycle moves from online qualification to a minor bracket and then a LAN Major bracket. | All 12 teams compete in the Major tournament |
| Standings | Accumulated CDL Points rank teams for postseason qualification and bracket placement. | Every team carries its total through the season |
| Postseason | A winners-and-elimination bracket leads to a best-of-seven Grand Final. | Qualified teams, July 16–19, 2026 |
A useful shorthand is qualify, seed, play the Major, bank points, repeat. A qualifier result is not the same thing as a Major placing: the qualifier primarily sets the LAN route, while the Major supplies another opportunity to improve the season total.

How the season is organized
The official 2026 standings page displays six blocks. Their published windows show how the calendar fits together:
| Standings block | Published dates | Role in the season |
|---|---|---|
| Regular Season | December 5–June 28 | The umbrella period containing the qualifying stages and Major competitions. |
| Major I | December 5–February 1 | First qualifier-to-Major cycle. |
| Major II | February 13–March 29 | Second cycle and another points opportunity. |
| Major III | April 17–May 17 | Third cycle. |
| Major IV | May 29–June 28 | Final regular-season cycle before the postseason. |
| Post Season | July 16–19 | Championship bracket and Grand Final. |
The league homepage identifies the competition as four Major tournaments featuring all 12 CDL teams. The 2026 game platform is Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, so rules, modes and maps should be read as rules for that title rather than for an earlier Call of Duty release.

What happens during a Major cycle
Every Major cycle has a qualification phase and a tournament phase. The exact schedule can vary, but the 2026 Major IV schedule makes the progression visible: an online qualifier, a minor bracket, and then the Major bracket.
1. Online qualifying matches
Teams first play qualifying matches online. These games establish the seeding used to place teams in the LAN tournament. Seeding matters because it determines an opponent and route through the bracket; it is not a replacement for the Major itself.
2. Minor or play-in bracket
After qualification, the schedule can include a minor bracket before the main LAN event. Treat this as a separate stage with its own matches and advancement rules. A team can therefore be discussing its qualifier record, its minor-bracket result and its eventual Major finish at the same time; those are different data points.

The surviving or seeded teams enter the Major LAN bracket. LAN matches decide the tournament placing that fans usually call the Major result. That placing also contributes to the season standings, so a Major is both a title event and a points opportunity.
4. Reset for the next cycle
Once a Major ends, teams keep their accumulated CDL Points and begin preparing for the next qualifier. The process repeats through Major IV, after which the standings are used for the July postseason.

How to compare two Major cycles
Do not compare Majors only by their final bracket. Four structural questions tell you whether two cycles offered the same path:
- Qualifier length and format: How many online matches were scheduled, and what record or seeding rules followed?
- Minor or play-in stage: Did teams have to pass through an intermediate bracket before the LAN event?
- LAN bracket size and type: How many teams reached the main bracket, and was the bracket single-elimination, double-elimination or another documented format?
- CDL Points available: What standings credit was attached to each result?
The official 2026 pages document the qualifier-to-minor-to-Major structure, but the searchable schedule does not publish a complete numeric points table for every placement. Use the live standings interface for the award attached to a particular result instead of copying an unverified chart.

How CDL Points work
CDL Points are the season-long standings currency. Results in qualifiers and Major tournaments add to a team’s running total. The standings page separates regular-season and Major stages while showing each team’s accumulated figure, allowing you to see both the stage context and the overall ranking.
The practical consequence is straightforward: a team is not judged for postseason entry by one match or one Major alone. Its total across the season determines its position relative to the other teams. A high Major seed can help a team’s tournament route, but the seed itself is not the same as the points total.
The Call of Duty League’s 2027 season announcement, published October 14, 2026, says: “CDL Points up for grabs throughout the season are in-line with the points awarded in the 2025 and 2026 seasons.” That statement describes continuity of the points framework; it does not provide a placement-by-placement 2026 chart. For a live total or a disputed placement, consult the current official standings display.

Reading a standings page without mixing categories
- Stage label: Identifies whether the row belongs to regular-season qualifying or a named Major.
- CDL Points: The cumulative standings total used for ranking.
- Qualifier record: Describes online qualification performance and may explain a team’s Major seed.
- Major finish: Describes where the team ended in the LAN bracket.
- Postseason position: The eventual bracket place assigned from the season standings.
How teams qualify for the postseason
Qualification is a standings exercise. Teams accumulate points over the regular season and four Majors, then the league orders them by their totals for the postseason field and bracket. The public 2026 material establishes that standings rank teams for postseason qualification, but it does not state a separate universal points cutoff in the searchable text.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →That means a reader should avoid declaring a team “qualified” from a single win, a single qualifier or a provisional table. Check the current standings after the final regular-season cycle, confirm the team’s total and then read the published postseason bracket. The final regular-season event is Major IV; once it closes, no later regular-season match can change that qualification calculation.
The 2026 playoff and championship bracket
The July postseason uses a winners-and-elimination structure. The official schedule lists these rounds in order:
- Winners Round 1
- Elimination Round 1
- Winners Round 2
- Elimination Round 2
- Winners Final
- Elimination Round 3
- Elimination Final
- Grand Final
This is a double-elimination-style path. A team that loses in the winners bracket moves into the elimination bracket and receives a second life. A second loss removes it from the tournament. A team that continues through the winners side reaches the Winners Final without first taking a loss; a team coming through eliminations must survive additional matches to reach the same championship series.
The 2026 Playoffs/Championship were scheduled for July 16–19 in Las Vegas. The completed bracket records Vegas FaZe defeating OpTic Texas 5–2 in the Grand Final. That score identifies the final series result; it does not change how regular-season points or Major seeding were calculated.

Best-of-seven match format
Every CDL best-of-seven follows the competitive-settings mode order below. The first team to win four games wins the match, so Games 5–7 are only played when necessary.
| Game | Mode |
|---|---|
| Game 1 | Hardpoint |
| Game 2 | Search and Destroy |
| Game 3 | Overload |
| Game 4 | Hardpoint |
| Game 5 | Search and Destroy |
| Game 6 | Overload |
| Game 7 | Search and Destroy |
Seeds, Team A and Team B, and vetoes
The competitive-settings document also defines seed-based Team A/Team B selection and map vetoes. Those procedures decide which maps and sides remain available; they do not alter the seven-game order. When analyzing a match, separate three questions: which team had the better seed, which maps were removed in the veto, and which modes each roster plays best.
Seed, points and match record are different
These terms are often used interchangeably in broadcasts and social posts, but they answer different questions:
| Term | Question it answers |
|---|---|
| CDL Points total | How has the team performed across the season for standings purposes? |
| Major seed | Where is the team placed in a particular LAN bracket after qualifying? |
| Match record | How many matches has the team won or lost in the current stage or bracket? |
| Map-mode record | How effective is the team in Hardpoint, Search and Destroy or Overload? |
A team can have a strong season total but a poor map matchup, or a low seed and a favorable route after an upset. Keeping these categories separate prevents misleading “must-win” claims and makes bracket analysis easier to follow.

A practical way to follow the season
- Start with the stage label. Confirm whether the match is a qualifier, minor bracket, Major LAN game or postseason game.
- Record the qualifier outcome. Use it to understand the team’s seed and opening opponent.
- Track the Major finish separately. Note the round in which the team was eliminated or the placing it achieved.
- Update the standings total. Use the official live standings interface for the credited CDL Points rather than estimating from an unofficial graphic.
- Before the postseason, sort by total points. The final regular-season standings determine the qualification order and bracket position.
- For each match, check the mode order and vetoes. A best-of-seven prediction should account for Hardpoint, Search and Destroy and Overload strengths, not just the teams’ overall records.
Common format mistakes
- Calling the qualifier the Major: Online qualification sets seeding; the LAN bracket is the Major tournament.
- Assuming every cycle has identical intermediate stages: Check the published schedule for a minor or play-in before describing the route.
- Treating points as match wins: CDL Points are a season standings currency, not a simple count of victories.
- Using an old points chart: Numeric awards should be verified on the live 2026 standings interface because the searchable official pages do not expose every row.
- Confusing bracket lives: A winners-bracket loss sends a team to eliminations; a second loss eliminates it.
- Predicting from a single mode: The match includes three modes in a fixed seven-game sequence, with vetoes affecting the available maps.
