C4 Pre-Workout Alternatives for Lower-Caffeine or Caffeine-Free Workouts

Short answer: If you want to stay with the C4 range but reduce caffeine, the current C4 Original listing that shows 150 mg per serving is the lower-caffeine path compared with C4 Ultimate’s 300 mg. However, another current C4 Original variant lists 200 mg, so the tub’s own Supplement Facts panel and serving size must decide which product you have. C4 Sport also lists 200 mg and is not caffeine-free.

If your goal is zero caffeine, do not choose any C4 product identified here. Select a pre-workout whose current label explicitly states zero caffeine, then read the complete ingredient panel for other stimulants. No specific competing caffeine-free product is identified here because a current label could not be verified.

C4 caffeine amounts at a glance

The first comparison should always be caffeine per labeled serving. Names such as “Ultimate,” “Original,” “Sport,” “pump” or “stim-free” do not replace the Supplement Facts panel for the exact package you are buying.

Product or listing Caffeine per labeled serving What it means Evidence and qualification
C4 Ultimate 300 mg High-caffeine option among the products compared here; unsuitable for a caffeine-free goal. Cellucor’s current C4 Ultimate product page, accessed 2026.
C4 Original listing A 150 mg Lower-caffeine C4 route compared with the 300 mg Ultimate listing, but still caffeinated. Cellucor’s current C4 Original page, accessed 2026.
C4 Original listing B 200 mg Not equivalent to the 150 mg listing; confirm the exact variant before purchase. A separate current Cellucor C4 Original variant listing, accessed 2026.
C4 Sport 200 mg Caffeinated; not lower than the 150 mg Original listing and not caffeine-free. Cellucor’s current C4 Sport page, accessed 2026.

These are label amounts, not guarantees of a particular energy, focus or performance response. Serving sizes, flavors and regional or formula variants can differ, which is why the package in your possession is the controlling reference.

First decide which goal you have

You want less caffeine but still want a C4 product

Start with the C4 Original page that lists 150 mg per serving. That is 150 mg less than the 300 mg listed for C4 Ultimate. It is a reduction, not elimination: Cellucor’s own warning says C4 Original contains caffeine and should not be used by people trying to remove caffeine from their diet.

Do not assume every C4 Original tub contains 150 mg. A separate current listing reports 200 mg per serving. Treat those as different label outcomes until you have matched the exact flavor, package and serving instructions. A 200 mg Original serving is 100 mg below the 300 mg Ultimate listing, but it is still more caffeine than the 150 mg Original listing.

In percentage terms, moving from 300 mg to 150 mg cuts the labeled caffeine amount in half. Moving from 300 mg to 200 mg cuts it by 100 mg, or one-third. Those calculations describe only the product labels; they do not predict how any individual will feel or establish a personal intake limit.

You need zero caffeine

None of the C4 products listed above qualifies on the evidence available here. C4 Ultimate, C4 Original and C4 Sport all list caffeine. Search by the category “caffeine-free pre-workout” if useful, but use that phrase only to find candidates; make the current product label your decision point.

A front label can emphasize “pump,” “focus” or “stim-free” without answering every ingredient question. Before using a product, find its current Supplement Facts panel, confirm that caffeine is explicitly listed as zero or absent according to the manufacturer’s labeling, and review the full ingredients for other stimulants. If the label is ambiguous, do not treat the product as caffeine-free.

What each C4 option is—and is not

C4 Ultimate: 300 mg per serving

Cellucor’s current C4 Ultimate page lists 300 mg of caffeine per serving. That makes it the opposite of a lower-caffeine or caffeine-free choice in this comparison. If you are moving away from a high-caffeine serving, switching to another product requires checking the actual amount rather than relying on the C4 name alone.

The same current page advises consulting a qualified healthcare professional in several circumstances and before combining supplements or medicines. Follow that caution if you have a health condition, take medication, use other supplements or are uncertain whether a caffeinated product is appropriate for you.

C4 Original: the lower-caffeine route, with a label conflict

One current Cellucor C4 Original page lists 150 mg of caffeine per serving. On that listing, it is the relevant C4 choice for someone seeking a smaller caffeine serving than C4 Ultimate. It remains a stimulant-containing product, not a caffeine-free pre-workout.

A separate current C4 Original variant listing reports 200 mg per serving. The difference may reflect a distinct variant, package or formulation, but the available listings do not establish which explanation applies. Do not average the figures or assume that a retailer’s title is accurate. Match the exact product name, flavor, serving size and Supplement Facts panel to the tub you will use.

Cellucor’s warning on the 150 mg page states: “This product contains caffeine and should not be used by individuals wishing to eliminate Caffeine from their diet or in combination with Caffeine or stimulants from other sources including but not limited to, coffee, tea, soda, or other dietary supplements and medications.” That is a product warning, not evidence that the product is safe or effective for every user.

C4 Sport: 200 mg and an NSF claim

The current C4 Sport listing says it provides 200 mg of caffeine per serving and describes support for energy, endurance and focus. Those statements are manufacturer product copy, not independent evidence that every user will experience those effects.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The page also makes an NSF Certified for Sport claim. If certification matters for your sport, verify the certification and the exact product independently rather than assuming that every C4 formula or size carries the same status. At 200 mg, C4 Sport is not lower than the 150 mg C4 Original listing and is not caffeine-free.

How to verify the exact tub before buying or mixing

  1. Identify the complete product. Record the line name, flavor, size and any wording that indicates a variant. “C4 Original” alone is not enough when current Original listings show different caffeine amounts.
  2. Find the serving size. Caffeine is reported per labeled serving, so note how many scoops or grams the label defines as one serving. Never compare products by scoop count alone.
  3. Read the caffeine line in Supplement Facts. Write down the milligrams per serving. For the products discussed here, the current figures are 300 mg for Ultimate, 150 mg on one Original listing, 200 mg on another Original listing and 200 mg for Sport.
  4. Check the number of servings you intend to use. A full serving and a partial serving are different exposures, but the label amount remains the reference for comparison. Do not infer a precise amount if the product’s instructions or serving measure are unclear.
  5. Inspect the rest of the panel. For a caffeine-free goal, look for other stimulant ingredients and any warning language. A product that hides behind a blend, uses vague marketing or does not clearly identify its caffeine status should not be treated as confirmed caffeine-free.
  6. Check the package date and market. Formulas and labels can change. Use the current package intended for your region instead of an old screenshot, retailer description or remembered formula.
  7. Keep a label record. Photograph the Supplement Facts panel when you open the tub. This helps you distinguish a later replacement or reformulation from the product you originally evaluated.
  8. Compare like with like. Use the same serving convention for every candidate. If one product defines a serving as two scoops and another defines it as one, compare the stated milligrams per serving and then note the directions for use.

How to choose a genuinely caffeine-free pre-workout

Use an explicit zero-caffeine statement

The safest selection rule for this goal is simple: choose a product whose current label explicitly states zero caffeine. “No coffee,” “natural energy,” “non-jittery” or “stim-free” wording does not, by itself, prove that the complete formula contains no caffeine.

Read beyond the front panel

Check the Supplement Facts panel and the complete ingredients list for the exact flavor and size. Look for caffeine information, warnings and any other stimulant ingredients. If a manufacturer publishes separate labels for different variants, read the one that matches your package.

Do not substitute a historical label

The NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database contains a C4 Ultimate Cotton Candy label record whose contents were entered on 2020-06-24. That entry can provide historical context, but it is not a substitute for the current package label. A dated database record cannot confirm what a product sold in 2026 contains.

Ask when the label leaves room for doubt

If caffeine is not clearly quantified, contact the manufacturer or choose a different product with a transparent current panel. The absence of a prominent caffeine claim on the front is not enough to establish zero caffeine.

Separate caffeine from every other stimulant question

Zero caffeine does not automatically mean zero stimulation. A formula may use ingredients marketed for energy or focus that are not named caffeine. Read the complete panel and any caution statements, especially if you are avoiding stimulants rather than caffeine alone. The decision should be based on the exact, current ingredient disclosure, not a product category label.

Lower caffeine versus caffeine-free: practical trade-offs

Priority Best-supported approach What to avoid
Reduce caffeine while staying with C4 Compare the exact label and look first for the 150 mg C4 Original listing. Assuming every C4 Original variant is 150 mg.
Use a 200 mg C4 formula Recognize that C4 Sport and one current Original listing both report 200 mg. Calling 200 mg caffeine-free or lower than the 150 mg listing.
Eliminate caffeine Select a current product label that explicitly states zero caffeine and inspect all ingredients. Using any C4 product listed in this guide, or trusting “pump” and “stim-free” marketing alone.
Meet a sports-certification requirement Verify the exact product’s certification; C4 Sport’s page makes an NSF Certified for Sport claim. Extending one product’s certification claim to other formulas or sizes.

Combining products and other caffeine sources

Lowering the caffeine in a scoop does not make the total intake lower if you add coffee, tea, soda, another supplement or a medication that contains caffeine or stimulants. Cellucor’s C4 Original warning specifically cautions against combining the product with those sources.

Make a complete list of what you plan to consume around the workout, then compare each product’s label. If you cannot determine the amount or whether an ingredient is stimulatory, pause and ask a qualified healthcare professional or pharmacist. Do not use the figures in this article as individualized medical limits.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For a fair comparison, write down the planned serving of the pre-workout and every other caffeinated item in the same time window. A lower-caffeine product can still be the wrong choice if it is stacked with another supplement or beverage. Conversely, switching products without checking serving instructions can leave you unsure how much you actually consumed.

A decision guide for common situations

You currently use C4 Ultimate and want a smaller serving

Compare your Ultimate tub’s 300 mg figure with the exact C4 Original package. A package showing 150 mg is the clearest lower-caffeine C4 option in the current listings. A package showing 200 mg still reduces the labeled amount by 100 mg, but it is not the same as the 150 mg listing.

  • Each serving of pre-workout powder has 175 mg of caffeine

You want to stop caffeine entirely

Skip the C4 products identified here. Find a current label that explicitly states zero caffeine, read the full ingredient panel for other stimulants and follow the product’s directions. If the label cannot establish zero caffeine, keep looking.

You are sensitive to stimulants or take medication

Do not select solely by the smallest number in a product title. Review all ingredients and the warning language, and consult a qualified healthcare professional before using a pre-workout. The C4 Ultimate page specifically advises professional consultation in several circumstances and before combining supplements or medicines.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

You compete under testing rules

Check certification at the product level. C4 Sport’s current page makes an NSF Certified for Sport claim, but that claim should not be transferred automatically to C4 Ultimate, C4 Original or another package. Verify the exact product and current certification status yourself.

You are comparing a tub in a store with an online listing

Use the physical package as the final check. Online pages can show a different flavor, region, serving size or variant from the item in your cart. If the online description and the tub disagree, pause until the manufacturer or the package label resolves the difference.

Common mistakes when shopping for a C4 alternative

  • Calling C4 Original caffeine-free. The 150 mg listing and Cellucor’s warning explicitly establish that it contains caffeine.
  • Ignoring the Original discrepancy. Current listings show both 150 mg and 200 mg, so the exact variant and package label matter.
  • Choosing C4 Sport as the low-caffeine answer. Its current listing says 200 mg, which is higher than the 150 mg Original listing.
  • Comparing scoops instead of labeled servings. Milligrams per serving are the comparable figures; scoop size alone is not.
  • Trusting an old label. The NIH database record dated 2020-06-24 is historical context, not confirmation of a current formula.
  • Assuming a marketing term proves zero caffeine. Confirm the current Supplement Facts panel and complete ingredients list.
  • Stacking without checking. Include coffee, tea, soda, supplements and medicines when evaluating total stimulant exposure.
  • Assuming certification transfers. An NSF claim on C4 Sport does not automatically cover other C4 products, flavors or package sizes.
  • Using a retailer title as the specification. Retail copy can lag behind a formula or show a different variant; the package panel controls.

Questions to ask before placing the order

Can I identify the exact flavor, size and variant? Is caffeine stated in milligrams per serving? Does the serving size match how I plan to measure it? If I need zero caffeine, does the current label explicitly say so? Have I checked the complete ingredient panel for other stimulants? Am I combining it with coffee, tea, soda, another supplement or a medication? If I compete, is the certification attached to this exact product? If any answer is unclear, choose a product with clearer labeling or obtain professional guidance.

Bottom line for choosing your next pre-workout

For a lower-caffeine C4 option, look for the current C4 Original package that lists 150 mg per serving, while recognizing that another Original variant lists 200 mg. C4 Sport is also 200 mg, and C4 Ultimate is 300 mg. For a caffeine-free workout, move outside these C4 choices and require an explicit zero-caffeine statement on the current label, followed by a full ingredient check. When labels, variants or your health circumstances create uncertainty, stop and obtain professional guidance rather than guessing.
