Byepervisor Reborn is a developer-focused PS5 hypervisor exploit project, not a ready-to-use jailbreak. Its official project README lists firmware 13.60 and 13.20 as fully supported, but says the release includes no HEN or other patches and is “not useful to regular users in its current release state.” The documented path also assumes an existing kernel exploit chain and an ELF loader.
What Byepervisor Reborn does
The project describes a vulnerability in the PS5’s system-resume path. During resume from rest mode, an startup_mp hypercall initializes the other processor cores while an insecure nested page table configuration is applied. The project says this behavior can be abused to run shellcode with read/write access to hypervisor address space, including VM Control Blocks. These are claims in the project README hosted by PS5Dev, not an independent assessment of every supported configuration.

The README describes a post-resume state in which the kernel can be dumped and patched, execute-only memory is disabled, and writes are enabled. That describes access and a foundation developers can build on; it does not mean the repository supplies those finished patches or a user-facing feature.

| PS5 firmware | Project status | What that means |
|---|---|---|
| 13.60 | Fully supported | Listed as supported by the project README. |
| 13.20 | Fully supported | Listed as supported by the project README. |
| 13.00 | Untested | The README does not claim confirmed support. |
| Below the listed versions | May be technically exploitable, but changes are needed | The project says additions may be required, and missing gadgets could mean more extensive changes. |
| 14.00 | Not supported by the published release | The README says it might work with modifications, but does not provide them; do not treat that as 14.00 support. |
These are the project’s documented compatibility claims, not a guarantee that every console on a listed firmware will complete the exploit flow. The README’s separate claim that the exploit is “99.9% stable” is not accompanied by a test sample, methodology, or independent validation, so it should not be read as a verified success rate.

Why it is not a finished jailbreak
The README explicitly calls the release a base exploit intended for developers and says it does not include HEN or other patches. Hypervisor access is not itself a Linux installation, game-package feature, or other consumer capability. The repository does not list those as included features, so none should be assumed from the exploit description alone.
As a result, owners looking for a simple install that turns on new PS5 features should not treat this release as that. Its significance is as a starting point for security research and further development; the project itself warns that ordinary users cannot make practical use of the current release.
What the documented workflow requires
The project’s procedure is not a standalone launch process. It assumes that a kernel exploit chain has already reached an ELF loader. The user sends byepervisor.elf and follows the console notifications; the payload depends on the ELF loader continuing after the console resumes from rest mode.
Rank #2
- Start with the prerequisites: the documented route assumes a compatible firmware, a kernel exploit chain, and an ELF loader. Byepervisor Reborn does not replace those components.
- Use the rest-mode resume path: the exploit relies on resuming from rest mode. The README notes that users may need to set Supply Power to USB Ports to Always in the console’s rest-mode settings.
- Send the payload through the loader: the documented workflow sends
byepervisor.elfafter the ELF loader is available, then relies on the loader and resume flow to continue. - Follow the console’s notifications: the README describes notifications as part of the workflow. Reaching this stage is not the same as installing a consumer patch set, which the release does not include.
Regular PS5 and PS5 Pro handling
The project accounts for different hypervisor-loader physical address ranges on regular PS5 and PS5 Pro consoles. Its source checks the main SoC ID and selects the corresponding range, rather than assuming one address works for both console types. The README and source code therefore describe model-specific address handling; this does not broaden the published firmware support list or make the release a consumer-ready jailbreak.
The project says the vulnerability was initially found by theflow0 and later investigated by others with assistance from large language models. That history helps explain the research context, but it does not change the release’s stated purpose or included features.
