You cannot buy or sell an X account under X’s rules. X prohibits trading account access, including temporary or permanent transfers, and separately prohibits buying or selling usernames. A September 2026 snapshot found six venues advertising X accounts—not ten—and does not establish that any is safe, compliant, or the best choice. If you want a particular handle, X’s official Handle Marketplace is the permitted route to request an available one; it grants a limited license to the handle, not ownership of an account.
Why there is no defensible list of 10 “best” marketplaces
The evidence supports naming six venues found in a dated marketplace snapshot, not ranking ten current options. More importantly, a marketplace listing does not make an account transfer compliant with X’s rules. The venues below are included only to explain what appeared in that snapshot—not as recommendations.

TieUp says it reviewed marketplace pages on September 18, 2026, and found X-account listings on AccsMarket, AccsZone, G2A, Z2U, Fameswap, and PlayerUp. It describes differences in seller models and transaction claims, but it did not purchase or test accounts and is not an independent audit of their safety or transferability. Its review also notes that some verification details, fees, dispute limits, and insurance terms were not stated in the material examined. Read the dated snapshot.
- Claims such as “verified,” ownership checks, escrow, warranties, or insurance are seller- or marketplace-stated features—not proof that an account can be transferred safely or in compliance with X’s rules.
- The snapshot does not establish a consumer-protection winner, current inventory, or a reliable ranking.
- It does not support adding four more venues to make a ten-item list.
What X’s rules say about buying an account
X’s Authenticity rules say that “Trading, buying, selling (either through monetary or virtual compensation) or soliciting access of X accounts, including the temporary or permanent transfer or sales of accounts, username or X (e.g. ‘pay for affiliation’) products” is not allowed. The prohibition covers paid and non-cash arrangements, as well as temporary access—not just a permanent sale.

X separately says that buying or selling usernames violates its username-squatting policy and may result in permanent suspension. X also warns that attempts to sell or transfer a handle or account through its Handle Marketplace process may lead to the handle being reclaimed and involved accounts being suspended.
X’s Terms of Service, effective April 10, 2026, state that X may suspend or terminate accounts for violations of its Terms or Rules and Policies, among other reasons. See the X Terms of Service. A third party’s payment or dispute protections cannot override these platform rules.

How to request a handle through X’s official marketplace
If your goal is a particular username, use X’s Handle Marketplace, which lets eligible users request an available handle for the account that will use it. This is a request process, not a purchase of an existing account or a transfer of account ownership.

- Check eligibility. X’s guidance includes account-standing and subscription conditions. Confirm the current requirements on the official Handle Marketplace page before applying.
- Request an available handle from the account that will use it. X may require a transfer fee and may require identity verification. The fee and verification requirements depend on the request; check the current terms rather than assuming a fixed cost or process.
- Wait for X’s decision. X says most requests require at least seven days, although response times vary.
- Understand the rights granted. If approved, you receive a limited, revocable, non-transferable license to use the handle. X can reclaim it; the license is not ownership of the handle or an account.
Do not try to bypass the process by buying a handle or account from another person: X’s guidance warns that attempts to sell or transfer them can result in reclamation and suspension.

A 2024 study by Mario Beluri, Bhupendra Acharya, Soheil Khodayari, Giada Stivala, Giancarlo Pellegrino, and Thorsten Holz identified 38,253 advertised social-media accounts across 11 marketplaces during February–June 2024. The study spans multiple platforms; it is not a current count of X accounts or evidence that any marketplace is reliable. See Exploration of the Dynamics of Buy and Sale of Social Media Accounts.
That historical cross-platform figure cannot establish the size of today’s X-account market. The available snapshot likewise does not establish that the six named venues are safe, approved by X, or able to deliver accounts that remain usable.
