What Burn With Me is
Steam describes Burn With Me as a “story-centric deckbuilder filled with cozy dread and occultic mysteries.” Its setting follows university students who uncover ancient rites and invocations with help from a passionate Teacher. Each character confronts personal trials, summons a personal demon and moves through chapters whose mechanics are tied to that character’s fears and obsessions.

The game is designed as an authored, single-player journey rather than an open-ended multiplayer card game. Steam lists six chapters and six characters, with almost 100 cards. Many cards also have alternative secret visuals created by invited artists, giving the collection a discovery layer beyond their gameplay effects.
How the draw-and-burn system works
Rituals expand the deck
Rituals add cards to your available options. In a conventional deckbuilder, a larger deck usually means more possibilities but less consistency. Burn With Me turns that familiar trade-off into a threat.

Difficulty makes drawing hazardous
As rituals become harder, the game forces more frequent draws. Launch coverage describes each draw as potentially triggering a brutal consequence: one random card in your hand is permanently burned. The loss is not a temporary discard. The card is removed from future play, so every forced draw can change the shape of the run and the strategy you were building.
New cards are not protected
A card added moments earlier can be selected for burning. That prevents a simple “collect every strong card” approach. You must weigh the value of expanding your options against the risk that a difficult ritual will destroy something important before you can use it.

The Deutscher Computerspielpreis jury said the game “reimagines the deck-building genre and spices it up with a healthy dose of mathematics.” That mathematical element comes from managing probabilities, hand composition and the timing of draws while still solving encounters through position-based synergies and creature summoning.

Burn With Me is not only about sequencing cards in a hand. Position-based synergies make board layout part of the puzzle: where an effect or summoned creature is placed can matter as much as which card is played. Creature summoning adds another layer to those positional decisions.

Because each chapter reflects a character’s fears and obsessions, the mechanics are intended to change with the story rather than serve as a single interchangeable combat loop. The result is a deckbuilder in which narrative progression and rule changes are closely connected.
Is Burn With Me like Inscryption?
Both games are single-player, narrative-focused card experiences with unsettling themes, so players who enjoyed Inscryption may recognize the broad appeal. The available information does not establish a direct mechanical equivalence, however. Burn With Me’s defining differences are its forced, permanent card burning tied to draws, its position-based synergies, its occult-university setting and its six-chapter authored structure.

Daniel Mullins, the creator of Inscryption, reviewed the Burn With Me demo with the brief response, “Enjoyed it a lot!” That is an individual reaction to the demo, not a claim that the two games use the same systems or offer the same experience.
Steam release, demo and platforms
The free demo presents the first of the game’s six chapters, allowing prospective players to try the opening story and the draw-and-burn rules before buying the full release. Steam lists versions for Windows, macOS and SteamOS/Linux.

What to expect before you play
- Permanent consequences: burned cards do not return, so a bad draw can alter later decisions.
- Probability management: adding cards increases possibilities but can also give the burn mechanic more valuable targets.

- Story-first pacing: the campaign is organized around six chapters and character arcs rather than an endless competitive ladder.
- Single-player scope: the listed release is for solo play on Windows, macOS and SteamOS/Linux.
Bottom line for Steam players
Burn With Me’s hook is simple to state but strategically consequential: the draws needed to survive harder rituals can permanently destroy cards in your hand. The free first-chapter demo is the clearest way to determine whether its deliberate risk management and cozy-dread tone suit you.
