Building a B2B Travel Portal with Amadeus APIs: Access, Booking Flows, and Operations

Start by requesting access to Amadeus’s Enterprise APIs and obtaining the documentation and commercial terms for your portal’s market and booking model. Amadeus says its former Self-Service portal has been decommissioned; the familiar Self-Service flight endpoints and requirements are legacy examples, not a current Enterprise integration specification. Build around the Enterprise contract you receive, and treat the public hotel sequence as guidance for the booking journey rather than a substitute for account-specific API documentation.

How do you get Amadeus API access for a B2B travel portal?

Amadeus presents its developer portal as an Enterprise API portal. It advertises a sandbox and access to more than 100 Enterprise APIs, and directs developers to request access. The catalog groups services under Air, Booking Management, Hotel, Cars & Transfers, Customer Profile, Insurance, and Payments by Outpayce. That catalog indicates the breadth of the offering; it does not establish that every API, product, or commercial arrangement is available to every applicant.

Use Amadeus’s access request and Travel Sellers contact route to describe the business you are building. Include the information the provider needs to determine a suitable scope and commercial proposal:

  • Launch country or countries and the markets your customers will book in.
  • Your agency and customer model, including whether the portal serves travel agencies, corporate travel buyers, or another business customer.
  • Travel segments needed at launch, such as air, hotel, or ground transport.
  • Expected booking volume and the support, changes, cancellations, and refund handling you expect to offer.
  • Whether your business intends to issue tickets directly or work with a consolidator, if applicable.

The public materials do not set out this portal’s eligibility, implementation or recurring fees, production requirements, or negotiated terms. Amadeus’s FAQ says Enterprise access is request-based and that pricing and requirements depend on market and functionality; confirm current details directly with the provider rather than treating older FAQ wording as a binding offer.

What should you confirm before choosing an API arrangement?

Do not choose an integration solely from the names of APIs in a public catalog. Compare the arrangements Amadeus actually offers for your business against the operational responsibilities your portal is prepared to own.

Decision area What to establish
API scope Required travel segments and the booking-management functions needed before and after purchase.
Market and eligibility Launch geography, agency credentials, production access conditions, and any contractual requirements.
Ticketing model Whether direct issuance is available for your case or a consolidator-supported model is required.
Commercial terms Implementation, recurring, and transaction costs; any markup rights; and any negotiated incentives. Public materials do not state account-specific amounts.
Operational ownership Who handles changes, cancellations, refunds, customer support, and escalation to suppliers.
Payments and data Who collects customer funds, how supplier settlement works, and which systems handle cardholder data.

These are questions to resolve with Amadeus and any relevant supplier or consolidator, not a list of options guaranteed to be available in every market.

How does the flight booking flow work?

Amadeus’s current public Enterprise catalog confirms an Air offering, but the public pages reviewed do not expose a current end-to-end Enterprise flight workflow. The often-cited sequence comes from Amadeus’s legacy Self-Service FAQ. It is useful for understanding why flight booking needs multiple validation and order stages, but do not treat its endpoint names or lifecycle rules as Enterprise requirements.

Travel Diary Software program
  • With Nomads Notes you can now do it all in the one application.
  • 1. Trip Diary - Records each trip separately. A trip can be from a one night quick trip away to a lifetime on the road
  • 2. Daily Journal - Record your daily events and thoughts. It even includes a spell checker with 4 different English language dictionaries - US, UK, Australian and Canadian
  • 3. Photo Album - Photos can be arranged in separate albums for all parts of the trip. Each photo can have a separate title and description. Photo album has search capabilities by date or location.
  • 4. Expenses – Record all your trip expenses divided into categories of your choosing eg food, house etc.
  1. Search: In the legacy Self-Service example, Flight Offers Search returns bookable flight offers.
  2. Recheck the offer: Flight Offers Price checks the latest price and availability for the selected offer. This illustrates why a search result should not be presented as a guaranteed, durable price.
  3. Create the order: Flight Create Orders books the flight and, in the FAQ’s description, airline-proposed ancillary services.
  4. Retrieve or manage the booking: Flight Orders Management is the legacy example for consulting and managing bookings.

Amadeus’s Postman collection also demonstrates fetching an offer, pricing it, and creating an order. Obtain the Enterprise flight specifications for your account before choosing equivalent calls, defining when an offer expires, or implementing order management.

What is the documented Enterprise hotel booking sequence?

Amadeus’s public Enterprise hotel descriptions outline a sequence you can use to shape the customer journey: search, select an offer, confirm final price and availability, then submit a reservation. The booking description says the reservation uses the offer ID, guest information, and payment information, and lists services for retrieving and managing hotel bookings.

  1. Search: Request hotel details and offers for the customer’s needs. The Enterprise search description says offers can be selected using factors such as price, location, or amenities.
  2. Present and select: Show relevant options and retain the selected offer identifier and the booking data associated with it.
  3. Confirm before commitment: Check final price and availability and present the result to the user before submitting the reservation.
  4. Book and support the order: Submit the offer ID, guest information, and payment information. Use the account documentation to implement retrieval and any available management actions.

The public description does not specify payload schemas, offer expiration, idempotency, cancellation rules, or error handling. Confirm those details in the Enterprise documentation before implementing them; do not infer them from the high-level sequence.

How should authentication and environments be designed?

Keep Amadeus credentials in a server-side integration layer. A browser-based portal should call your backend, not expose an API secret to users or client-side code. That layer can also apply tenant authorization, log and trace requests, enforce your own rate controls, retry only where safe, and redact personal or payment data from logs.

The legacy Self-Service quick start describes OAuth 2.0 client credentials: a form-encoded POST to /v1/security/oauth2/token using the client ID and secret, followed by API requests with an Authorization: Bearer <token> header. Its Postman collection says that example access token lasts 30 minutes. These are legacy Self-Service details, not confirmed Enterprise credentials or settings. For Enterprise, use the issued documentation to verify authentication method, hostnames, token duration, scopes, sandbox and production environments, quotas, and promotion steps.

For production, define credential storage and rotation, audit logging, request tracing, tenant-level access checks, rate-limit handling, retry behavior, and data redaction. The exact limits and failure responses must come from your account documentation; do not hard-code assumptions based on older Self-Service examples.

Who issues tickets, collects payment, and handles changes?

API connectivity does not, by itself, settle the commercial and operational model. The legacy Self-Service FAQ says flight ticket issuance in that framework requires an airline consolidator, and describes IATA or ARC authorization as necessary for direct issuance. It also characterizes consolidators as wholesalers that may act as host agencies for agents without the relevant certification. These are not established as universal Enterprise rules: confirm what applies to your market, agency structure, and selected Enterprise offer.

The same FAQ distinguishes collecting money from the customer from settling with a consolidator: customer collection is the application owner’s decision, while consolidator settlement is arranged separately. It says flight markups may be applied through the seller’s own payment gateway. For the Self-Service hotel product, it describes a post-paid booking API that did not allow room markups. Do not generalize those statements to other products or current Enterprise contracts. Establish the merchant-of-record structure, permitted pricing, taxes, refunds, and payment flow for the actual arrangement.

Post-booking service also needs an explicit owner. The legacy FAQ says a consolidator handles changes or refunds after flight ticket issuance and distinguishes cancellation before issuance. Before launch, document the responsibilities of your portal, Amadeus, each supplier, and any consolidator for order retrieval, changes, cancellations, refunds, customer communication, and escalation. Confirm the current APIs and service arrangements rather than promising a servicing path based on the legacy FAQ.

What security and payment-data obligations should you plan for?

Amadeus’s hotel tutorial says a booking call includes guest and payment information and warns that a system storing, transmitting, or processing cardholder data needs PCI DSS compliance. Decide whether the portal will handle card data directly or delegate payment entry and processing to a suitably designed payment provider. Confirm current PCI DSS obligations with that provider and assess privacy requirements for each jurisdiction in which the portal operates.

Minimize the personal and payment information your services retain, restrict access by tenant and role, and ensure that logs and support tools do not expose sensitive data. The exact fields, retention needs, and security controls should follow the Enterprise contract, payment architecture, and applicable obligations—not assumptions made from a tutorial.

What should your implementation plan deliver?

Use a staged plan so commercial decisions and technical dependencies are resolved before the portal makes bookings in production.

  1. Define the booking model: Record target markets, business customers, launch segments, expected scale, ticketing approach, payment ownership, and service expectations.
  2. Request Enterprise access: Share that model with Amadeus Travel Sellers and obtain the applicable API scope, sandbox access, account documentation, and commercial proposal.
  3. Map each customer journey: Document search, selection, final price and availability confirmation, order creation, retrieval, and the post-booking actions your contract supports.
  4. Design the integration boundary: Keep credentials server-side, define tenant authorization and data handling, and plan observability, safe retries, and error presentation.
  5. Assign operational ownership: Agree who handles ticket issuance, supplier settlement, changes, cancellations, refunds, and customer escalation.
  6. Validate before production: Test the documented sandbox flows and failure cases, then follow the account-specific production approval and rollout requirements.

The key implementation artifact is not just a set of API calls: it is an account-specific map connecting each booking step to its API, commercial rule, payment path, and responsible support party. Amadeus’s public Enterprise catalog establishes the access route and product categories, but the exact flight workflow and business terms must come from the current offer for your portal.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
