Rachaad White is no longer a Buccaneer: NFL.com lists him with Washington for 2026. Tampa Bay’s Week 1 depth chart instead names Bucky Irving, Kenny Gainwell and Sean Tucker, in that order. For current Buccaneers fantasy value, compare those three backs; White’s Tampa Bay numbers are useful historical context, not evidence of his current role or theirs.
Who is the Buccaneers’ lead running back?
Tampa Bay’s Week 1 2026 depth chart lists Irving first, Gainwell second and Tucker third. The team also describes Gainwell as Irving’s main complement, replacing White in that role. That makes Irving the clearest lead-back candidate on the published depth chart, with Gainwell the next back to watch.

A depth-chart listing is a starting point, not a workload forecast. Tampa Bay’s published material does not establish exact 2026 shares of snaps, carries, targets or goal-line work for any of the three. Those roles can change with health, performance and game plan, so use subsequent game usage—not the preseason order alone—to assess fantasy value.
What the 2025 numbers do—and don’t—show
The Buccaneers’ January 2026 review of the 2025 season reported these rushing totals. Irving missed a substantial stretch after injuries in Week Four and returned in Week 13, so his season total reflects time missed as well as his role when available. The figures are historical production, not a direct forecast of 2026 touches.

NFL.com’s 2025 regular-season statistics list White with 40 receptions for 218 yards and no receiving touchdowns. That receiving work matters when interpreting his old Tampa Bay fantasy profile, but it does not establish his Washington role.
The Buccaneers’ January 2026 review also said White ranked among running backs since 2023 as follows: No. 3 in receiving touchdowns (nine), No. 5 in yards after catch (1,432), No. 7 in receptions (153) and No. 7 in receiving yards (1,142). These are cumulative rankings for that period, not 2025-only totals.

How to evaluate workload as the season develops
Track opportunity by game and separate healthy games from games affected by injury or a return-to-play limitation. A season total can obscure how a back was used when available—particularly when another player’s absence creates replacement opportunities.

A lead in carries can indicate rushing opportunity, but does not capture passing-game involvement.
- Routes, targets and receptions: Compare routes and targets as well as catches and receiving yards. Targets can reveal involvement before a player converts them into production; receptions are especially valuable in PPR formats.
- Scoring chances: Watch red-zone carries, goal-line attempts and targets near the end zone. Touchdown totals can swing sharply over a small sample, so consider the opportunities behind them.
- Third downs and pass protection: A back trusted to protect the quarterback or stay in for passing situations may retain playing time even when he is not carrying the ball. Tampa Bay describes White’s past screen, checkdown and blocking value; that historical description should not be treated as a guarantee about another back’s 2026 role.
- Health and competition: Reassess the split when a teammate misses time or returns. The 2025 season illustrates how missed games can affect another back’s totals.
Translate the role into your league’s scoring
Fantasy value depends on both opportunity and format. In standard scoring, rushing volume and touchdown chances can carry more weight. In half-PPR and full-PPR, receptions add value, making targets and receiving work important parts of the comparison. Use your league’s actual scoring settings rather than assuming one universal ranking.

Keep season-long value separate from a weekly start-or-sit decision. For a season-long roster choice, weigh the likely path to a durable role and the possibility that teammates reclaim touches. For a particular week, prioritize the opportunities expected in that matchup, the player’s availability and your lineup alternatives. The published sources do not provide verified 2026 fantasy projections or a current workload-share ranking, so any ranking based only on the depth chart or 2025 totals would overstate what is known.
