As of Cointelegraph’s October 5, 2026 report, Bitcoin had tested but not reclaimed its 2026 yearly open of $87,570. The weekly close on Bitstamp was $86,532, with brief wicks to $87,000 afterward. Three threads matter this week: that overhead level, a bond market and Federal Reserve backdrop that has swung quickly, and an October seasonal record that looks good on paper but forecasts nothing. All prices, yields and probabilities below are snapshots from the cited sources, not live data.
1. The 2026 yearly open is the next resistance hurdle
The yearly open is a simple reference: the price at which the year began. Cointelegraph put it at $87,570 and said bulls had failed to reclaim it in repeated attempts since September 21. The weekly close of $86,532 (Bitstamp) sat about $1,000 below it. Wicks to $87,000 after the close came up short.

Rekt Capital, a trader and analyst, described the setup this way: “Bitcoin continues to be sandwiched between the ~ $82500 key support and the ~ $86700 resistance ahead.” He framed a decisive move above $86,700 as the route to a higher range topping near $93,700.

How to read it
- Sustained break above $86,700 and the yearly open: this would change the short-term technical picture. A single wick does not count, and the $87,000 wicks did not.
- Repeated rejection: price stays inside the roughly $82,500 to $86,700 range, and the lower liquidation cluster near $83,700 becomes the area to watch.
- Caveat: these are one analyst’s levels and one data provider’s liquidation map. Prices differ slightly across exchanges, so a “close” on one venue is not identical on another. None of this is a forecast.
2. Bonds and the Fed set the macro tone
Cointelegraph described a comparatively light US data week, leaving the bond market in focus. Its figures:
#1 Best Overall
- BITCOIN EXCLUSIVE, PHONE VERIFICATION: Bitkey is designed from the ground up exclusively for bitcoin — a dedicated hardware wallet for secure bitcoin storage. Approve transactions with a tap using your phone and NFC. No device screen is required.
- SELF-CUSTODY, NO EXCHANGE OR CUSTODIAN REQUIRED: You hold two of the three keys in the Bitkey system – one on your phone and one on your Bitkey device. The third is stored on Bitkey’s server and cannot move your bitcoin on its own.
- NO SEED PHRASE: Set up and use Bitkey without creating or storing a seed phrase.
- 2-of-3 MULTISIG: Three keys are stored separately across your phone, Bitkey device, and Bitkey’s server. Any two keys are required to move your bitcoin.
- BUILT-IN RECOVERY: Encrypted backup and recovery tools can help you regain access if you lose your phone or Bitkey device. You can also designate a Recovery Contact.
- The previous week, the 10-year and 30-year Treasury yields reached 5.34% and 5.69%, which the report described as levels not seen since 2002.
- At the time of writing on Monday, the 10-year stood at 5.25%. Treasury yields remained elevated.
- The Fed raised rates by 0.25 percentage points at its September meeting. Minutes of that meeting were due Wednesday.
- CME FedWatch showed the market-implied probability of another 0.25-point hike in October at 18%, down from 70% a week earlier. This is a market-derived probability, not a Fed decision.
- Cointelegraph listed the next inflation reading, CPI, for October 14. Confirm the date on the official calendar.
Timothy Chubb, chief investment officer at Girard Advisory Services, told CNBC about the yield rebound after the payrolls report: “I think that’s the right move because I don’t think this report necessarily changes the story for the Fed.” Cointelegraph reported that he sees the Fed keeping rates “higher for longer,” with sticky inflation and volatile oil among his concerns. That is a comment on rates, not a Bitcoin call.
The link to Bitcoin is plausible rather than proven. Falling hike odds can ease pressure on risk assets, while yields near multi-decade highs can weigh on them. The cited reporting does not show that either one dictates Bitcoin’s next move.
3. October’s record is strong, but it is only history
Cointelegraph, citing CoinGlass, reported that Bitcoin’s average October return since 2013 is 18.7%, with only three negative Octobers in 13 years. Those figures come with limits:

- Thirteen observations is a small sample, and an average can be pulled up by a few large months.
- The past pattern does not make October 2026 a likely gain.
- The start of the month has been weaker. CryptoQuant contributor Andrew Kamsky said: “Bitcoin’s first three days of October have historically been its weakest three-day stretch, averaging a 0.66% decline. 2026 has already held up better.”
Demand side: ETF flows and a conditional recovery
Binance Research’s September 28 weekly, “BTC Tests a Trend Reversal,” tied the rebound to spot Bitcoin ETF demand and improved technical signals. It cited $999 million of spot BTC ETF inflows on September 21, the largest single day of the year as of September 28. The same report warned that elevated yields and upcoming inflation data could interrupt the move, and that past moving-average behavior is not infallible. It supports the conditional reading above: the recovery needs follow-through.

- Whether daily and weekly closes hold above $86,700, then $87,570, rather than only wicking through them.
- The September FOMC minutes on Wednesday, and any shift in the 10-year yield from its 5.25% level on Monday.
- Whether CME FedWatch October hike odds stay low or rebound from 18%.
- Whether ETF inflows continue, or whether the $999 million day proves a one-off.
- The CPI release on October 14.
