If a Browserless screenshot shows the wrong region, first determine which location signal the site is using: your session’s public IP address, browser geolocation, locale, or timezone. These are separate controls. Route traffic through an India proxy if the site localizes by IP; set coordinates and grant geolocation permission if it reads the browser’s Geolocation API; and set locale and timezone deliberately. Apply browser settings before the first navigation, then verify the result through the same session. The target site may use more than one signal, so changing one setting alone may not fix it.
Why an Indian website can show the wrong region
A cloud browser’s hosting location does not establish the public IP address that a website sees, and browser location settings do not change that IP. A site can choose a region using one or several signals:

- Public IP and network egress: the address from which the session reaches the site. This is the signal to change when the site determines region from IP.
- Browser geolocation: coordinates exposed through the browser’s Geolocation API. A page generally needs permission to access this information.
- Locale: language and regional formatting preferences such as
en-IN. - Timezone: the browser’s configured time zone, such as
Asia/Kolkata. - Site state: cookies, local storage, account preferences, URL parameters, or a region selector may preserve a prior choice.
Browserless documents proxy controls for network routing and browser-context overrides for presentation and geolocation settings. Those controls do not establish which signal a particular Indian website uses. Test the target URL rather than assuming that “India” in one setting controls every signal.

Start by recording how the capture connects: a Browserless REST endpoint, a plain Puppeteer or Playwright WebSocket session, or a stealth route. Then inspect the public IP from inside that same session, for example by opening a trusted IP-information page, or check a region indicator provided by the target site. Browserless’s proxy examples also demonstrate visiting an IP-information page. Do not infer egress geography from the Browserless host name.

Browserless says that without proxy configuration, a connection uses the host machine’s IP; its BaaS launch documentation also describes country proxy selection, with a random location used when no country is specified. Check the endpoint you use and its supported options before changing configuration. See Browserless BaaS launch parameters and Browserless proxy documentation.
Route IP-localized requests through India
If the observed egress IP is outside India and the target appears to localize by IP, use Browserless’s documented proxy option to select India where your endpoint and account support it. Country routing targets a country, not necessarily a particular city. If your test requires a specific Indian city, verify that the city is available to your account and confirm the current plan requirement before relying on it: Browserless’s proxy documentation associates city targeting with the Scale plan (500k+ units) and says lower plans receive a 401 for this feature. Plan thresholds and availability can change; consult the current documentation and account details.

A country choice and a sticky session solve different problems. Country selection requests a geographic egress; stickiness is about retaining an IP. Browserless documents proxySticky=true for keeping the same IP across a session where possible. Its documentation says plain REST endpoints and plain Puppeteer/Playwright WebSocket sessions use a random proxy node by default, while Browserless stealth, BrowserQL, unblock, and scrape routes are described as sticky by default. Stickiness does not itself choose India.

Set browser geolocation, locale, and timezone before navigation
Use a browser context configured before opening the target page. In Playwright, supply the coordinates and grant the geolocation permission if the page needs browser location access. Locale and timezone are independent context options; set them to match the profile you are testing. Replace the example coordinates with the coordinates appropriate for your test area.

If the site uses IP-based localization, route the session through the appropriate India proxy separately. Playwright documents these context controls in its Emulation guide. On Browserless stealth routes, the proxyLocaleMatch option can align browser language with proxy geography. Browserless says that without this parameter the browser defaults to en-US. Locale matching changes language preferences; it is not a substitute for routing through an Indian IP. Check the current endpoint documentation for the exact parameters available to your route.
Check site state and capture readiness
If the region is still wrong after checking egress and browser context, isolate other causes in a fresh context. Inspect cookies, local storage, account state, URL parameters, and any visible region selector. These are diagnostic possibilities, not confirmed causes for an unspecified target site.

- Record the capture route and check the session’s public egress IP.
- Record the effective locale and timezone, plus whether geolocation is configured and permitted.
- Use a fresh context, apply the intended settings, and navigate only after they are active.
- Capture the same target URL and note its displayed region, URL, and relevant context state.
- Change one signal at a time—IP route, geolocation, locale, timezone, or site state—and compare the result.
This makes the result reproducible and helps identify whether the site responds to a particular signal. Without the target URL and observed behavior, it is not possible to say which signal an unidentified site honors.

Common failures and fixes
- India coordinates do not change the page’s region: coordinates affect browser geolocation, not network egress. Check the public IP and configure an India proxy if the site is IP-localized.
- The site still reports the old location: apply all context overrides before the first navigation. Recreate the context after changing settings rather than relying on a page already loaded under defaults.
- The site ignores geolocation: check that the context has coordinates and that the
geolocationpermission is granted. The page may rely on IP, stored state, or another signal instead. - The language is wrong despite India routing: set locale explicitly or check whether your stealth route supports
proxyLocaleMatch. Language preferences do not prove the egress IP is Indian. - The IP changes between captures: check the route’s default proxy behavior and whether
proxySticky=trueis supported and enabled. Stickiness can help retain an IP but does not select a country. - City targeting returns 401: check the account tier and current Browserless city-targeting requirements; the documentation associates this feature with Scale (500k+ units).
- The page appears incomplete: inspect viewport and rendering readiness, including image or font waits, before treating the result as a localization problem.
