What the Brother MFC-L8930CDW does well—and where it falls short
This is a color laser multifunction printer for business workflows: it prints, copies, scans, and faxes. Brother advertises print and copy speeds of up to 33 pages per minute. Independent reviewers at RTINGS describe it as a strong small-office choice for sharp, fast documents, duplex scanning, and low maintenance.

The trade-off is size and specialization. RTINGS calls the printer very large and cumbersome for home use, and says it is unsuitable for photos because of its limited color gamut, weak color accuracy, lack of borderless printing, and lack of glossy-paper support. It makes more sense for forms, reports, correspondence, and other office documents than for photo output.

Brother specifies an 80-page automatic document feeder and two-sided scanning of up to 104 images per minute. Those are manufacturer maximums with measurement conditions, not a promise of everyday throughput; real performance can vary with the originals, settings, and workflow. Still, the combination targets offices that regularly digitize multi-page paperwork rather than occasional single-page scans.

Paper capacity starts with a 250-sheet lower tray and a 50-sheet multipurpose tray. Brother says optional trays can bring total capacity to 1,340 sheets. If the office switches frequently between paper types or wants to reload less often, check the current compatibility and availability of the LT-350CL or LT-360CL optional tray before buying.
What does toner cost, and what supplies need replacing?
Brother includes standard-yield toner rated at approximately 3,000 black pages and 1,800 pages per color cartridge. The TN635XXL replacement cartridges are listed for up to 7,500 black pages and 6,500 pages per color cartridge. These are approximate yields measured under ISO/IEC 19798; actual results vary with page coverage and use.

A precise cost per page cannot be calculated from page yields alone: it depends on the current purchase price of each cartridge and the proportion of black-only and color printing. Compare the price of the cartridge you expect to use with its corresponding published yield, and account for coverage patterns that may shorten real-world life.
The box also includes a DR635CL drum unit, BU635CL belt unit, and WT229CL waste toner box. Brother publishes approximate component lives and cautions that page coverage, job size, and media affect actual life, so toner is not the only consumable to consider over the printer’s service life.

The right comparison depends on whether document throughput, photos, cost, or space matters most. RTINGS discusses the Canon Color imageCLASS MF665Cdw as a lower-priced color laser comparison and the Epson EcoTank Pro ET-5850 as an inkjet supertank option for photo-heavy work. These are alternatives to investigate, not universal winners.
