What the HL-L5210DN does—and does not do
This is a single-function monochrome laser printer, not an all-in-one. Which? describes it as a standard laser printer that prints in black and white and does not scan or copy. If you need document scanning, photocopying, color output, or wireless printing, this model does not meet that need on the evidence available.

Its connectivity is oriented toward a desk or office network: Brother lists Gigabit Ethernet and Hi-Speed USB 2.0 for the US model. Brother Japan lists USB and wired LAN, but no wireless LAN. Check the specifications for the exact regional version you intend to buy rather than assuming wireless support from the product name.
How fast does it print?
Brother USA rates the printer at up to 48 pages per minute, with the first page in under 6.7 seconds and maximum resolution up to 1200 × 1200 dpi. These are manufacturer specifications; the available independent-test excerpts do not provide measured speed or print-quality results that would confirm those ratings in real-world use.

Two-sided printing is slower than one-sided printing. Brother Japan specifies approximately 48 A4 pages per minute in simplex and approximately 24 A4 pages per minute in duplex. The difference matters if most of your work is double-sided: the headline 48 ppm figure should not be treated as the expected rate for duplex jobs.
Brother lists automatic duplex printing, with “Print (default setting)” in its US brochure. That makes two-sided output available without manually turning pages, though actual job speed will depend on document and operating conditions.
Paper capacity and expansion
The US configuration has a 250-sheet main tray and a 100-sheet multipurpose tray, with 150-sheet face-down output. Brother lists optional LT-5505 250-sheet and LT-6505 520-sheet trays, and says the US configuration can reach 1,390 sheets with expansion. Tray options and total capacity vary by region, so confirm local compatibility and availability before planning around that maximum.

For a workgroup, the multipurpose tray can keep a second paper type or size ready while the main tray handles everyday documents. Optional trays can reduce interruptions to reload paper, but their availability and added cost are separate from the printer; no current price comparison is available here.
Monthly workload: recommended volume is not the maximum
Brother USA recommends monthly print volume up to 5,000 pages and lists a maximum monthly duty cycle of up to 90,000 pages. The 90,000-page figure is a maximum duty-cycle specification, not a recommended routine workload. A buyer expecting roughly 5,000 pages of monthly black-and-white documents is within Brother USA’s stated recommended range, but should still account for peak periods, duplex use, and the cost and frequency of consumables.
Toner, drum, and ongoing costs
In the US brochure, the included TN920 starter toner is rated for 3,000 pages. Brother USA lists replacement toner yields of 3,000 pages for TN920, 6,000 for TN920XL, 6,600 for TN920V, and 11,000 for TN920XXL; the DR920 drum is rated for 45,000 pages. Page yields are estimates, not guaranteed page counts, and actual yield depends on what is printed and other conditions. Toner and drum names differ by market, so verify the cartridge specified for the exact regional printer rather than ordering from a part number listed for another country.

Consumer Reports reports that one cartridge produced approximately 2,833 pages of black text in its test, using Brother-brand toner and firmware 1.08. That is a test-specific result, not a general yield guarantee or a like-for-like comparison with Brother’s rated yields; the excerpt does not provide enough context to reconcile the figures. Brother Hong Kong also reports approximate inbox toner yield of 3,000 pages and inbox drum yield of 45,000 pages, without using the same US cartridge naming.
The drum is a separate maintenance supply from toner. Its stated 45,000-page rating does not mean it needs to be purchased immediately alongside the printer; replacement timing depends on use and the printer’s maintenance indications.

Which? says it first reviewed the HL-L5210DN in October 2024 and tested it under the version of its printer test program current at that time. The available result excerpt does not show its star rating or measured quality, speed, or running-cost results, so it cannot support a favorable or unfavorable performance verdict here. Consumer Reports provides the cartridge test figure noted above, but not enough detail in the available excerpt for broader comparisons.

Accordingly, the clearest evidence-based assessment is about fit: this is a wired, monochrome, print-only office model with automatic duplexing and paper expansion. The published specifications indicate a focus on throughput and workgroup capacity; the available independent excerpts do not establish how its print quality, noise, setup experience, or total cost compares with alternatives.
Warranty and regional buying checks
Brother USA lists a one-year limited warranty. Coverage is not universal: Brother Hong Kong lists one-year onsite service in Hong Kong and bring-in service in Macau. Check warranty terms in the country where you will buy and use the printer, along with local tray and consumable compatibility.

- Confirm that the model is the wired configuration you want and that Wi-Fi is not a requirement.
- Check the exact regional toner and drum part numbers before buying supplies.
- Verify whether optional paper trays are sold and supported in your market.
- Read the local warranty terms, since service arrangements vary by region.
- Compare purchase price and expected toner and drum costs over time; a current street-price comparison is not established here.
