Does it print double-sided automatically?
No. The HL-L1230W supports manual two-sided printing, so you must handle and reinsert the paper to print the reverse side. It should not be described as having automatic duplex printing. For occasional two-sided pages this may be workable; for frequent duplex jobs, an automatic-duplex model is more convenient.

Wi-Fi, USB and operating-system support
Brother lists wireless support for both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks, along with Hi-Speed USB 2.0. That gives you a choice of wireless printing or a direct wired connection. The datasheet also lists native ChromeOS printing support. For macOS, Brother specifies AirPrint and says Mac drivers are not provided. Consult the Brother HL-L1230W manuals and regional support page for the current operating-system support information and setup guidance, since software support can change.
Useful print features
Beyond ordinary document printing, Brother lists manual two-sided printing, N-up printing (placing up to 25 pages on one sheet), poster printing, toner save mode, watermark printing, ID printing and booklet printing. These are documented functions; they do not establish how easy each feature is to use or what output quality to expect.

Which toner and drum does the HL-L1230W use?
In Brother’s European-region guide, the HL-L1230W is listed with TN119 standard toner and a DR119 drum unit. Brother estimates approximately 1,500 pages for TN119, with yield declared under ISO/IEC 19752 for A4/Letter single-sided pages. The DR119 estimate is approximately 10,000 pages, based on one page per job and A4/Letter single-sided pages. These are manufacturer yield estimates, not guaranteed page counts; actual yield depends on use.
