What the Brooks Glycerin Max is designed for
Brooks positions the Glycerin Max as a road-running shoe for everyday runs, long runs and recovery runs, and also lists walking as a use case. Its main features are a high-volume DNA Tuned midsole and GlideRoll rocker geometry, which Brooks says are intended to support plush cushioning and smoother transitions. Those are the manufacturer’s design aims, not a guarantee that every runner will experience the shoe the same way. Brooks’ US men’s product page gives the current product details. Runner’s World describes larger foam cells in the heel and smaller cells toward the forefoot as part of Brooks’ approach to balancing softer landings with toe-off response.

How it feels on runs
The independent reviews support the Glycerin Max’s case as a comfortable, protective shoe for easy mileage. Tom’s Guide reports that its reviewer found the original model comfortable during a 20-mile run and suitable for easy or steady training and marathon-training mileage. RTINGS also rates it more favorably for daily training and long runs than for short-distance racing. Tom’s Guide’s review and RTINGS’ review provide those assessments.
RunRepeat highlights substantial impact dampening, a breathable upper and surprisingly stable handling, but also describes low bounce. Its test reported 52.0% energy return; that is a lab result from RunRepeat’s method, not a prediction of how much spring any particular runner will feel. Is the Glycerin Max too heavy?
It may feel too heavy if you want a light, lively shoe for intervals, tempo runs or racing. Brooks lists the US men’s model at 10.5 oz (297.7 g), with specifications varying by size and sex. Independent reviewers likewise identify weight and bulk as limitations: RTINGS says they restrict the shoe’s speed potential, while Tom’s Guide describes it as large and heavy for speed sessions.
For easy and long runs, the weight may be an acceptable trade for the cushioning, depending on your preferences. If quick turnover and energetic rebound matter more than a highly cushioned ride, a lighter, more responsive category is a better place to look.

Keep Brooks’ published specification separate from third-party lab results. Stack height and drop measurements can differ by source and method; they should not be treated as interchangeable manufacturer specifications.

Who should consider it—and who should pass
- Consider it if you want a highly cushioned road shoe for relaxed daily runs, long mileage, recovery days or walking, and you are comfortable with a heavier feel.
- Look elsewhere if you prioritize low weight, strong rebound, fast sessions or racing. The reviews identify weight and limited energy return as meaningful constraints for those uses.
- Check fit in person if possible and assess comfort at your usual running pace. A shoe’s cushioning and stability are individual experiences, and the published reviews do not establish a fit outcome for every runner.
