Brisbane 2032’s Olympic and Paralympic emblems appeared briefly in a preview image on the official Games YouTube channel before their planned public unveiling. The image was removed, but the designs had already been reported: a pink cockatoo crest for the Olympics and a yellow sulphur-crested cockatoo crest for the Paralympics.
How the Brisbane 2032 emblems appeared early
On Friday evening, three days before a planned Monday unveiling in Brisbane, the official Brisbane 2032 YouTube channel briefly showed the emblems in the preview image for a video titled “Emblem Explainer.” The preview image was later removed. ABC News reported the early appearance; The Guardian also covered the leak.

The image surfaced amid a staged rollout. In the preceding week, organisers had revealed parts of the emblem during a Queensland tour, with reported stops including Cairns, Townsville, Rockhampton and the Sunshine Coast. Coverage also described activity in Brisbane ahead of the planned community unveiling there on Monday night.
What the Olympic and Paralympic emblems look like
Reporting describes two related designs built around cockatoo crests. The Olympic emblem uses pink, while the Paralympic version uses the yellow associated with a sulphur-crested cockatoo. The Australian Associated Press characterised the Olympic design as a stylised crest rather than a photographic bird illustration, with its colour evoking a Games flame.
#1 Best Overall
| Emblem | Bird and colour reported | Shared design idea in the reported explanation |
|---|---|---|
| Olympic | Pink cockatoo crest | The crest is described as a “living torch,” evoking the Games flame, and the emblem as shaped like Queensland with its eye on Brisbane. |
| Paralympic | Sulphur-crested cockatoo crest in yellow | The crest is described as a “living torch,” evoking the Games flame, and the emblem as shaped like Queensland with its eye on Brisbane. |
These symbolic details come from the video description as quoted in reporting, not from independently verified design documentation. ABC News quoted the description: “The Brisbane 2032 emblems are inspired by the spirited cockatoo — a symbol of Australia’s unique wildlife and playful heart! The cockatoo’s crest is a living torch, reminiscent of the iconic Olympic and Paralympic flame,”
What organisers said about the leak
Queensland Minister for the Olympics Tim Mander welcomed the designs’ early appearance, telling The Guardian: “I’m actually excited it’s finally out,” and saying organisers had spent the week revealing the emblem piece by piece around Queensland.

Brisbane 2032 chief marketing officer Brent Hill described the publicity as “incredible” and said the reaction had been positive. He also acknowledged the rollout might have been handled differently: “If we had our time over, maybe there’s different ways that we could have done it,” he told ABC News. The Guardian reported Mander’s comments; ABC News reported Hill’s.

Was the leak deliberate?
Available reports do not establish whether the preview image became visible by accident or as part of a planned reveal, and they do not identify the technical cause. ABC News reported that Mander declined to say whether it was planned. The confirmed sequence is narrower: the official channel displayed the preview before the planned event, and the image was then removed.
